I am building a modern law enforcement/fbi IG army and I want a command Chimera that has a nice size sattelite on top. Does anyone have an idea where I could get one in the 28mm size or any tips on building one from scratch? My first thought was building the dish from the flying base, I just dont know how I would hollow out the bottom to make it curved.
Any leads to a possible satellite dish would be great and if not then an idea on how to make one would be great too.

For a little one, the SM Tank Accesories, otherwise flying bases could be a good idea.

I haven't found anywhere selling a ready made dish but I will keep an eye out during my web based wanderings.
However, have you considered using the flying base as a mould of sorts. You could shape a disc of greenstuff/other putty over the top (using vaseline or something to prevent it sticking) and then, when it has firmed up, you could cut detail into it. You could even press short lengths of thin wire or rod into it, running from the centre to the rim, to look like support structure (assuming you don't want a smooth finish). A quick search of Google images will give you plenty of ideas for detail.

I think this could work.
Get plasticard and cut it in a circle. Then slightly do the same thing you would do to make a cone but not to much. You know so it has that shape.. Then get sprue and make the antennae thingy.. Automatically Appended Next Post: I think this could work.

You can use one or two of the dozer blades from the IG armor sprue. I think I seen an example of one some where as a radar dish.

That should be an easy find. there are bases, kits, even things like lego parts (sounds rediculous) could work. You could probally easily make it with home materials. and if all alse fails, green stuff.

Cut a number of thin tiangles from plasticard and then form them into a dish shape, either flat or with a slightly sunk central apex (just put a small piece of blu-tac or something on your table to the height you want the dish to be indnted by, then lay the triangles down with the pointy ends on the blu-tac, and their long sides touching. Then glue them together.
Or you could make one of those overlapping flat dishes that look like they fold away - they could be pretty cool.

cut out the bottom of a metal pop can. They are a perfect shape for a round dish slightly larger than a 28 mm miniature.

Several promising suggestions here already. A wire frame with fine mesh (sculptor's form or window/door screens) stretched over it might look cool, if you want to go for a different look. Not all antenna arrays feature solid dishes.

You can see what I've done here - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/282506.page#1384813
It's a work in progress (More pics soon! It's just about ready for paint!), but you can see actually 2 dishes I made up for it. The one on top is made from the bottle of s Loktite Control Gel bottle, the tip to a bottle of contact lens solution, and a wooden "Bowl" you can buy a pack of from Hobby Lobby for like $2.
The larger black one on the side is from the ammunition tray for a box of 9mm ammo, a dowel, perscription bottle cap, and the switch cover to the heater from an old fish tank.
Both are pretty simple and fast. Not huge amounts of detail like the forgeworld, but I think they work.

why not go to a local dollar store and look to see if you can find a Cheap toy with a radar dish on it that you can scrap and use.
