Imperial Guard vs Marines. 2000 points. Mutual Annhilation mission, victory points optional rules.

Colonel Iron Hands and A lord Commisar leading a mostly infantry army with three leman russes, one an executioner. Not one heavy weapon team. Had three veteran squads with three flamers and shotguns each. A Platoon led by Al'Rahem with two squads and two sws with three melta guns each. Marbo. I called it my A Team (b/c of the number of special characters).

Marines had a captain and command squad with a librarian. 4 Rhinos, each with a full t squad, a predator annhilator and a dreadnoght.

I like to use tactics vs raw firepower, so I hid most of my troops (except the flanking infantry platoon) and let him come to me, taking pot shots with the battle cannons and exectioner cannon (love that gun). Waited with Iron Hands and the Ogryn (led by Lord Commissar). Once his marines were about 20 inches away I sprong the trap. A double pincer move, Chimera on each flank, one with Iron Hands and one with Ogryn. Immobilized his rhinos with battlecannons and when him guys got out UNLOADED. All my guys rushed out their hiding places and unleashed hell. Lots of flamers will make short work of anyone even terminators.

In the end he only had his command squad left (with both captain and librarian wounded). I lost Al'rahem and his command squad and over half of an infantry squad. About 175 points. The marine player had about 400 points left. Lost 1600. God that felt good.

Good Job.

I recently was in a tournament among some friends and we played 3 games of 1500 points. And I was playing Guard.

Game one i played some space marines on Bikes. beat him horribly bad he only killed one guardsmen in assault.

Game two im playing a Chaos Daemons players who ends up only killing one squad of guardsmen before giving up at turn 3 since he had about 3 units left at half strength.

Game 3 im playing a friend i usually play and he was space wolves. Well he also gave in around turn 3 cause he knows what i can do when he gets closer with tons of lasgun shots.

The entire tournament i only lost about 250 points while wiping out nearly ever army i played except the space wolves cause i didn't have time.

Guards are strong....but not that strong! Competition must've been weak. Marines, if led by a half-way decent general, don't normally fold like that...unless the Dice gods really abandoned him.

I don`t think the other players knew what they were doing. A biker list only killing one guardsman simply screams weak tactics. I understand it about the daemons, tthey are very random and can give you a hard time playing. The Space Wolves player giving up seems weird though. Or maybe everybody but shank brought friendly lists.
Cheers!

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I've had a few mostly flawless victories.

'Ard Boyz last year against a dual lash list - I had a weapon destroyed result on a trukk and a couple lost boyz from my assaults in exchange for tabling my opponent (2500 points). Obliterators went down to burnas, plague marines went down to burnas....

At the SVDM GT last month, I had a game against a rhino-heavy dual-demolisher list; I lost a deffkopta in exchange for tabling my opponent.

Last game a couple tournaments ago I played an almost completely new Tau player who had an army someone just gave her and drew up for her (and also probably wasn't 2000 pts , but it very well could have depending on the options.)

Only a couple missile pods. Only a couple railguns. No melta. I was playing mech guard. After the first turn she couldnt do anything more than glance my front armour. I dont' remember if I even lost a model.

Even against terrible dice rolls and such, unless the conditions are kill points or you have few troops it should be possible to do something. Seriously, all armies have range 24" guns and therefore can shoot you before you charge.

As a main point, I don't know why other people read reports but I read to see how tactics worked/didn't work how luck changed things or how particular units did. This report was: "My opponent walked up the board then I got lucky and won".

A good marine list will either wreck Russ' from range, shoot Speeders forwards to neuter your limited armour, or hit you harder and faster then you can ever hope to deal with. Land Raiders have effective 20" assault.

As constructive criticism could you please include detailed lists and a turn by turn breakdown of the action. That way everyone can at least imagine the battle unfolding and learn something from it. Hell, you could be the best tactician in the world but something like the above just sounds like boasting.

@Shank911: Bikes turbo 24" for a 3+ invulnerable, can spread out like no tomorrow from blast, are easier to hide then speeders and can carry a disgusting amount of melta guns. I don't see how any all-bike list can fold like that. Also, T5 means that Guardsmen wound on 6's so 10 Guardsmen will bring down a single bike every turn if lucky and will never charge.

Bottom of turn 1 where the other guy gave up w/out me losing anything. Granted if he'd played it out he actually would have done some damage but it was the first round of the tourney and the guy just got pissed after a few rolls and dropped the game.

Hulk, are you talking about me? =p

Just kidding (I think) I think I conceded to you on turn1, but it wasn't in a tournament...

Nope, not you. It was a few years ago against my Iron Warriors down in San Diego. It was a pretty odd tournament since I had 2 guys concede games that day. One on turn 1 and one on turn 4.

And you got to turn 2
