After about two weeks of grey stuff sculpting and kit bashing I think I'm finally happy with the abomination at the assembly stage to stop tinkering with it. Really I'm up to the stage of I want to add more but if I do the model will become too busy. For an example I was going to add bones or knives hanging from the chain wrapped around the abomination. The main body underneath all that grey stuff is actually a halo toy hacked up, I used the idea from this thread.

The rest of the bits are a combination of parts from Chaos Spawns, Rat ogres, Giant Rats, Corpse Cart, The Thing in the Woods, Doomwheel, Old Clanrat tails and an old school S bend dragon tail smoothed down into a giant rat tail and lots and lots of grey stuff. I was debating adding patches of fur over the body but I ended up liking the wrinkly fat skin. During painting I may add hair like Games workshop does on the Catachan jungle fighters arms with tiny lines to represent hair.

Anyway on to the pictures:

Seconded. Just because it is supposed to be vile, disgusting, putrid, horible, sickening and all the rest, doesn't mean it can't still look like a rat.

I think you're the first person to nail the Abomination as seen in the rulebook. Looking forward to seeing it painted

Lovin' it, especially the wheels in place of a leg. Can't wait to see it painted, and I agree, you stopped at just the right amount of detail to keep it from being too busy.

Also, have you had pet rats, or do some in depth research, because the big bulgy spots look spot on for what a tumorous rat looks like. Noticed that after going back after the first part of this post to look at the pics more. Great job.

I agree that the wheels add a ton of character to an already sweet looking model...the stuff of nightmares!

Thanks for all the comments guys, I've started the basecoat of the skin but had a bit of a set back when I used to much mixing medium for a wash I made up so it's turned out really shiny. So tonight I'm going to rebase coat the model and should be posting some pictures soon.

I think this is definitely one of the best aboms I've seen. I really like the unbalanced look as if it was litteraly stuck together by some mad rat-man. I can't wait to see some paint of it.

Small update time with pictures

I had a bit of a disaster to begin with where I decided to try making a wash of Scorched brown, Chaos black, mixing medium and water . I applied this to the whole model and after it dried I freaked out a bit. Important tip to remember apply a test colour, wash etc to a small portion of the model first! Not only was it way to dark it was super shiny as well. (you can still see a bit of this on the close up picture on the wheel).

So I went back to the drawing board and reapplied the base skin colour of 2:1 Calthan Brown and Tallarn Flesh and breathed a sigh of relief. I've also started applying the first highlight layer of 1:1 Calthan Brown and Tallarn Flesh which you can see in the close up picture.
That's all for now lots more to come, let me know what you think.

It's still early days but I can see what you mean. I'm going to be highlighting up to an extremely pale colour (almost bleached bone or around there). From there depending on how the the highlights turn out I'll be adding dirt, blood etc to dirty it up a bit.

Truly an abomination even Throt the Unclean would be impressed of..

I like the wooden wheels on it's right side. Makes it all the more "Skaven-ish" Is it too late to suggest a small number of rat swarms on the base, just for the added "rat-feel"?

Funny you should mention that as after the big guy was all painted up I was planning on adding some giant rats on the base

I agree with the "nailed the rulebook" quote. It certainly is nasty. Not to my taste, but then I don't play rats. : ) The positioning of the back legs is great - like its scrabbling to push itself forward. Very dynamic for a blob!

heheh.. that's gribbly cool. I quite like that.

I think perhaps a bigger, massively deformed head with smaller skaven heads worked into it might have looked better than the collection of small ones you have now.. but it doesn't subtract from the model at all.
