How many Marine players base their attack bikes?
I ask because I've got two full squads of bikes, each with an attached attack bike. The attack bikes look a little 'naked' when lined up next to the regular bikes:

I've taken a look at several different resin bases from Dragonforge, Back2Base-ix, and Ironhalo. The one problem with all of these manufacturers is that the bases they make tend to be too long. An attack bike is only abut 70mm long, and 60mm or so wide.
Dragonforge attack bike bases are a whopping 100mm long, and 60mm wide.
Back2Base-ix is 80x40, which is actually too narrow.
Ironhalo is closest, at 65x90mm. My only quibble is that the base has that huge, empty area in front of the sidecar:

While I'm no min/max'er, the huge extra base area is a bit of a turn-off when measuring hits from templates and close combat ranges. Of course, it is also an advantage for measuring my own firing, and close combat ranges. It's just a LOT of dead space for a base.

Has anyone found another alternative for attack bike basing? I'd really like to put mine on bases, but was hoping more for something shaped like a lower-case 'd', instead of a pill base. Any manufacturers make these, or am I going to end up making my own from regular bike bases and a 40 or 60mm round cut in half?

Any thoughts on the game effect of a 80x40mm pill base on an attack bike? Detrimental? I do like that it would fit the same general shape of my regular bikes, just larger.

It's a tough choice!

Maybe you could try combining a standard bike base with a 40mm base to make a P shaped base?

I think the bike could easily be more centered on the base above rather then pushed back towards the edge as it is in the pic above.

Seems perfect to me.

I agree with CT gamer. but if you use the way shown in the pic, you could put a shredded ork or something in the gap, as if the guy with the heavy bolter has just minced him

Good catch. I hadn't realized how far back on the base the example is. I'll have to order myself a handful of these, then.

CT Gamer has the right of it. It seems you could angle the bike better and create smaller spaces behind and in front of the bike. Since you have the measurements why don't you mock a base up out of card and try it out?

I would use the big base that dreadnoughts come with. That's the one I used for my RT era bikes anyway.

Well your army looks awesome as it is. Very coherent look to them. But I sympathize with having them all match. I am the same way.

I would try the base that you have posted a picture of. It looks the most like what GW would provide you with... IF they did.

get a 60mm base or cut a 40mm base in half and put a square 50mm base from gw in the middle.

I mount mine on dreadnought size bases. You just need to fiddle with its position until you like how it sit a on the base. You can get all 3 tires on the base quite easily.

I put the order in for four of the bases from Ironhalo. I thought about chopping up various cavalry and round bases to make something 'd' shaped, but decided the pill base was just easier, and matched better.
The net result of a base means a larger footprint for the model, but also a larger area to measure from for shooting. Evens out in the end.

As for Ultras versus White Scars...I started out tactical-heavy in Ultramarine style, but really liked the bike models and tactics. I refused to abandon all the models I had already painted, and don't like the idea of mixing Chapters, so my Second Company is Fast Attack heavy for now.

I've used 60mm (Dreadnought size) for mine but since mine is converted to a hoverbike, it doesn't matter that it's a few mm short

I used the bike base for the bike, then a terminator base for the sidecart...
