I think I was fortunate last week and I was able to barely win a complete boxed set of the
Rogue Trader Imperial Space Marines box set. This is one of the sets that started it all from
what I've read.

The box is not the best but all the sprues inside are complete and unpunched.

You can make 30 Space marines with varying weapon options.

You get 3 special weapon sprues with the retro missile launcher, power fist, flamer etc.

You get 15 tactical marine sprues which can make 2 space marines each.

6 of the ones with powerfist and pistols

9 of the ones with boltguns and close combat weapons

The next few shots are of the box itself, I am still deciding if it is worth sending it off to be restored.

It also comes with a complete Decal sheet:

I guess these were produced way back in 1991. I just wanted to share this find.
I also want to hear from veterans who had these sets if this set is indeed complete.
Is there a assembly manual? Other decals?

Quoting Jervis Johnson from White Dwarf 353 (p. 78) US edition:

"The first plastic Space Marines box set released for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
For some this is the holy grail of 'historic miniatures' and is fondly remembered by many veteran hobbyist."

Dude, whatever you do, do NOT actually assemble them!

That would be massive heresy!

Well done on getting them anyway

I don't plan to, I'm a avid collector and want to know if the set is indeed complete.

Couple of chapters on the box that I don't recognize (or maybe I'm just going blind). Could you provide a complete list, please?

Nice! but you have to build and paint and game with them!!!!!!! Otherwhise you will be like the sadacts who spend 1000's of pounds on restoring or buying classic cars just to let them sit in a garage for no one but them to look at

I built my first space marines with that set, back when Dark angels were black with red insignia. It looks to be complete, I don't even remember if it came with decals when I bought it. Damn, that was almost 20 years ago... I've built 3 more marine armies since then and started a 4th (Home brew chapter the Twilight Rangers, Space Wolves, Angels Invictus(Blood Angel Successors) and Crimson Fists).

I wouldn't bother repairing the box, just leave it as is. You aren't really going to enhance it's value with anything you do.

Rouge Trader, was that before or after Rogue Trader?

If I remember rightly the original sprues were navy blue, the cream ones came later (I could be wrong though...).

Oh my god I'm so jealous. I'd kill for a box like that. Of course, I'd build and paint the minis, and use some of the parts with the current generation plastics to make Sternguard Vets...

When I read the title I was really hoping for the 10 Kilo Metal T.Hawk they made for a month before the mold broke.

But I would say an untouched RT box is a close second, Nice find! Did you buy them on Feebay?

Good ol' RTB01...nothin' like a Chapter full of Beakie Marines!

If anyone's really looking for some RTB01 Beakies, I have a box's worth of 'em laying about. Not in the mint condition of patzgcrux's find, and without a box. But a good number are still unpainted/unassembled (and the rest are readily strippable) and I have more than a box's worth of the weapons sprue with the missile launchers, flamers, and power fists.

If anyone might be interested, I can reply to any request for details (offers?) via PM.

JohnS

Here's the link to 'em from the Stuff Of Legends site...

http://www.solegends.com/citrt/rtb01marines.htm

I had the box back in the day when I played the original Spacehulk (and there was a 'Battles' expansion that allowed the power armored Marines play 'Hulk) and it looks like you've got a complete set.

I have a lot of RTB01 both assembled and painted and still on the sprue, and unfortunately while they look fine (if not great) they match up poorly size and detail wise with the newer stuff.

Where would you happen to live? I'd like to know so I have some idea where to find you so I can kill you, then take that box.

In all seriousness that's a fantastic find, and I'm incredibly jealous that you have it. I would be pretty torn about whether to assemble it or not, but then again I have plenty of retro Space Marines as is.

I admit, I'd be more envious if people could actually spell it properly.

It was ROGUE TRADER, not ROUGE TRADER. That transposition makes a big difference.

Original batch was Dark Green. Batch two was Dark Blue. Thence came beige which was also a softer plastic than the blue or green.

I'm happy with my 30 that I still use (painted and all) in my SM army.

As far as building them goes...

Cars are meant to be driven! (not sit in a garage or trailer...)

Wargaming minatures.... well, you get the idea!

I agree with ordomalleus. It's sick and deranged to collect old sprues instead of assembling and painting them. I think it would actually be less offensive if this thread diverted into talk of counterfeiting those figures than this talk about restoring the box and hording the original parts.

It's your opinion as well as many others that they should be built but I see more 'historical' value in maintaining them as it is.
I for one love building, painting, and converting. There are a lot of ROGUE trader minis that can still be gotten thru auction sites, but
not a lot or even rarer to find it in this condition. As for being sick and deranged, we are all guilty of that because I am pretty sure people who do not play this hobby (like my wife) find us quite mad.

Thank you for pointing out the spelling mistake, will fix it so that
you can appreciate it. I got it through eBay and I bid $105 for it.

I think that's a complete box. I'll pull my box out and check the number of weapon sprues when I get home. Yep, I got an untouched (altho missing a few of the chainsaw bayonet pieces) box of these, as well as 100+ loose. Someday I'll decide to play Marines again and paint most of it up.
