Titans, in my experience they will get swarmed by a fair number of assault termies and eat your titan for far less points. TH/SS termies will eat titans for breakfast.

Titans have tactics? I thought it was just shoot your giant guns at anything possible.
Watch out for heavy railguns, they destroy Titans.

The trick to not getting swarmed by little p-fist wielding munchkins is in the support units. If you position some decent infantry units around the titan it can help quite a bit to keep the deep strikers away.

Tactic 1) Buy more titans, cuz only one is gonna be a nice juicy target for alot of people. Tactic 2) Take as many D Weapons as possible. Tactic 3) Pray to God Lukas the Trickster doesn't put it in stasis and then die...I saw a Reaver titan die to that once...

Mockery only works when you are right. You DO get to take invuln saves against Destroyer, or D-Weapon, attacks. It says so explicitly in the Apocalypse Book. I quote, "If the target fails to save this wound (no cover saves allowed, as described above, but invulnerable saves do apply) the weapon always..." This is located on pg. 96 of the Apocalypse book and is the only set of rules I have ever heard mentioned for D-weapons. You are undoubtedly mistaking these for vortex grenades, which of course DO ignore all saves.

It happens, so no worries. Vortex grenades are as awesome as they sound though. Last game I claimed 2 Land Raiders, 1 Venerable Dread, and a Predator before I rolled doubles. Thank God we only allow people to get assets like that randomly!

Grats on post count.
I love the Vortex, but all 3 times I've taken it it's done feth all: twice I rolled doubles and had it vanish after the initial throw and once it went poof when the Autarch carrying it died to a DS Mishap. I think I've killed all of like 3-4 models with them.

Painlord Titan Princeps of Slaanesh
|
Load it with D weapons isn't always the way to go. D weapons can often be limited in what they do. They're great at taking down other superheavies, though. Couple turbolasers into a baneblade will ruin its day. But they can scatter, and when firing those 2 5" templates they both have to be over the same unit. You can put 2 on 2 different units, sure, if you're armed double-turbolaser, but still it limits the scope.
I personally would like to build a 2x inferno cannon warhound. Without D weapons I'm hoping it's less of a target, but since each is a primary weapon they'll be rolling 2d6 and picking the highest for penetration, and it's S7. That can hit a lot of rhinos along that flame template, and it ignores all cover and is AP3, so great for killing anything shy of terminators.
Oh and btw, Stomp attacks are NOT D weapon hits. They are S10, so invul would be allowed anyway. And you still have to roll to wound, and to hit, each model engaged. Like it has been said here: Screen your titan with troops, don't let them get to you!

its going to be armed with a plasma blast gun and a vulkan-mega bolter.
i plan on using it to annhilate infantry and "normal" tanks.
Warhounds are surprisingly maneuravable, what with their Agile rule.
the only super heavys that show up where i play are 3 Stompas, Stormlord(which is mine), and a flying brass scorpian(don't ask )

The warhound weapons go like this (from best to worst)
DBTL 2 StrD plates that ruin days.
PBG the variable modes is nice for KOing terminators but 80% of the time, the large blast will be better.
Inferno Cannon, splendid for taking out hordes in cover, or, as mentioned, light armour. Fantastic for an in you face playsyle.
VMB, oh god, the tragidy. While the old FW rules were great, it is next to useless in the new apocalyptic book. Anything it can do, any other option can do far, far better. Exept tearing down void sheilds, a tiny niche that may warrent one in an entre leigon, not on your only Titan.
There are a number of combos that work well, IMHO and it depends on how you want to play your Titan.
TTLx2 is hands down the cheesiest Titan you can run, beating out a decked out Reaver narrowly and any Warlord varient handily. Beats everything and may have the unintended side effect of laying on a shelfsomewhere because noone wants to play against it (or you!)
PBG+TTL my personal favorite has flexibility, destructive potential and style. Good all-round.
INC+PBG a real infantry killer, this loadout makes marine hordes (battle companies) cry.
2xINC, an in you face close-range brawler, it runs full speed every turn, flames and might as well assault while it's at it, range shouldn't be an issue, seeing the size of most Apoc tables. A real crowd-pleaser that takes out [I]enemy's[\I] half of the board when it goes down, instead of your own (hopefully)

The main point of any superheavy is to find a weapon load-out that will kill the most enemies as quickly as possible. This means that the best weapons to take are those that ignore cover, because there are stupid amounts of cover saves in Apocalypse games. That is why I prefer D-Weapons, they are dead killy and they ignore cover and armor. But obviously, there are others who disagree...

VMB is a great weapon, but not on a titan. On a stormlord that doesn't move however it becomes lethal. On average that tank will eat a warlord for breakfast given its high odds of knocking down a void shield with each shot and the sheer number of shots make it likely to score a good number of penetrating hits.

you can glance only if you are behind it.
Warhounds are AV14,13,12. IIRC
D weapons can still have AP values so they don't ignore armor. now most are AP2, but thats beside the point.
I plan on getting a PBG and DB turbo laser.

If i had the choice i woudl go for the Turbo laser and the plasma blast gun. The plasma can take out tanks or huge gobs of infantry, whiel the laser will quite happily pop the majorityof normal tanks.
Ideally i woudl take the Melta Cannon but it's only available on the Reaver. Now THAT is a gun!
the only super heavy i own is a Shadowsword for my IW. It is ok, but it hardly ever pays for it's points in kills as, like a titan, it is a great big chainfist/TH/melta magnet. If you have the troops, leave a decent squad close in to defend it from pesky tank killers.

naturally keep the titan away from fists and other can openers
the one thing i see the titan having aan advantage is in its mobility.
if you only fire one gun you can run, and the Warhound is fleet.
if you don't fire any weapons you can fleet 2d6 instead of d6.
so you can if you have to move 6" and run on average and additional 7"(on 2d6)
Super heavy walkers also have the "stomp" ability i am told.

Strength D weapons don't need to roll pen, they autopen. And +1 on the damage chart, too (unless you're also AP 1 in which case it's +2 )
Main Weapons, on the other hand, do roll 2D6 and pick the highest like Ordnance. Very useful if you're a STR 7 Pus Cannon (which, being a template weapon, also ignores cover)
