I was thinking of starting a new Dwarf army when V8 comes out.

Should I grab a box or two now of Skull Pass? Will the prices be cheaper after it is discontinued because it will no longer be the current version, or more expensive because it will be out of print?

Also, for a Dwarf army, is what comes in that set even good?

Since they won't be making the box anymore, prices will go up, so if you want your dwarfs get them before the end of june

I'd grab it now while it's still in production. Just the crashed lander from the old 40k starter set was going for up to 30 bucks on eBay after it was discontinued. From what I hear it's a decent core for a Dwarf army, although I hear they're also not very competitive. I don't play Fantasy very often though.

The price will definitely go up.

The new trolls and boar boys will make many people tempted to start orc army. And everyone love goblins!

Historically speaking the prices of the boxes do not change at GW until they are OOP, at which point loads of people will go nuts for the bits that they had delayed picking up for a couple of months. After that there should be a steady stream of stuff on Ebay, same as all the other OOP stuff.

Can't say if dwarves are going to be competative, but there are thoughts abound of vast and sweeping changes being made to the system (here's looking at you daemons) so there is no real block to getting an army up. Trollslayers and thunderers are always handy, and miners can be usefull too

Supply and demand guys.

When the supply is -literally- stopped, the demand for it will cause the price to go up. I thought that'd be obvious.

In the box you get, 8 miners, 10 handgunners, a cannon and 3 crew, a thane and 15 warriors.

The price will plummet if the new set contains the same loadout of even nicer Dwarves and Goblins.

Fortunately for everyone its High Elves vs Skaven.

Usually GW dumps them for a few bucks each when the new set is released.
They will have thousands of them left over.

At one of the GW Sales in the UK back in 2000 I picked up old 5th edition sets for 2 pounds.

In Australia they compacted all the 3rd Ed starter sets and got rid of them. Thousands of dollars of Land Speeders and Marine Tactical sprues cosigned to the doom of land fill.

So basically GW rather throw them away then let the market be saturated with cheap alternative Orc / Dwarf units?

My guess is that the value (value and price being two different things) will go down initially, but one day an untampered box set will be worth quite a bit.

Looks that way. It seems like the GW store I go to always sends their old stuff back instead of selling them at a discount. IMHO they are just trying to control the price and get a tax right off for unsold merchandise.

I sold my HE army not too long ago , i welcome any new sculpted Elves! cant be worse then the current plastic ones.

As for skaven , i have held out from getting the new clan rats , now i get cheaper clan rats.

Its a good buy right now. Even if its cheaper or more expensive, the point is that the minis won't be produced anymore.

As far as dwarves go, they are Meh on a good day so go buy two boxes, wait till they are in demand, and sell them.

In the mean time, go over and look in the swap section for dwarves looking for a new home.

That is true, i was being sarcastic with that comment (i should of posted that). I like how the skaven look, they will be my second army for WHFB.

I don't think Skull Pass will increase in price, except on eBay.

In may issue of Spanish WD says that this month is the last that Skull Pass box will be available.

I'll have to buy one, still haven't got it lol

I doubt it will ever really go up in price significantly.

1. The miniatures aren't very well done
2. So many were produced that it probably will not reach collectible levels of demand on the secondary market.

I believe yes,because from my perspective people won't buy models for a long time after getting a cheap box of 110 models,which makes GW earn less money

It's odd, some of the bitz from Battle for Macragge go for a lot (specifically the navy officer and crashed lander) but the whole box seems to sell for only about $35. Maybe it's because the Black Reach marines are better and that's why everyone would buy it.

I can say that any older box sets I've seen sell for less than the retail the majority of the time. YMMV. GW stuff isn't that collectible, honestly. I got 1200 points of 2nd edition nids for 60 bucks last weekend.
