Hi All,

Pulled out my old warhammer from many years ago. to say the least looking at them now i can't believe how badly painted they were, hehe.

Salvaged a few marines, bought a black templar upgrade kit and got to work... watched a few tutortial videos and this is what i've come up with so far.

thoughts?

thanks,

Dave

Welcome to dakka! The templars are nice, the harsh highlighting makes them stand out.

Looking good, you obviously still have the brush control

The harsh highlighting on the black armour looks a little too harsh for my taste but overall they look great.

A lot of people don't like harsh highlighting, but on marines I think it really makes them stand out. Some of the backpacks look like they need the same love you gave the helmets, gauntlets, greaves, etc. but other than that they look superb.

awesome paint job on youtube i watched

The final highlight of white was a bit of an afterthought - looked a little dull without, really liked the look it gave in the end. Re: the backpacks i think you're right, will give them a little more love.

I found the tabards were a bit of hit and miss but think they turned out OK.

thanks

I thoroughly disagree. I actually really like the style, and I would like to take the opportunity to bless the OP. May all his endeavours be fruitful and may all his paintjobs be of surpassing excellence for twelve years.

Wanted some variety in the tabards so did a couple of different coloured ones... thoughts????

Next on the list to-do is an old attack bike that has been rejuvinated and given a few little black templar bits and bobs (about 10 layers of different paint had to be stripped, hehe)

The brown one looks ace, but I think the grey/black one doesn't contrast well with the templars black armour imo.

Hah, you're really on a roll! I love me some Templars, these look great. The sword dude is my favourite - he's so dynamic and bulky-deadly looking.

Awesome work and I look forward to more.

We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.

We laughed - knowing that better men would come,

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

Finished my plasma gun guy, I only had Ice blue to work with for the plasma part, so just darkened it and lightened it.... found another use for my Sakura Micron pen too!! - blackening small lines like inbetween the plasma fins... worked a treat.

also started on the attack bike, doing the bike by itself first for easier access. it was a really old model and i couldnt get all the old paint off in some of the crevices.... so it is pretty patchy in some parts where the old paint is underneath.... i'm a little disappointed but perhaps I can make it look like mud and scratches or something :X .... just started on the White which needs a few more coats

Nice templars, they look a lot like my own I went with a dark grey armor on mine (Charadon Granite) you might want to try it out or alternatively you can use it to highlight black plates. I will upload a BT pic to my gallery shortly. Good Work

Ok, slow down you're making me look bad.

These are a great quality Tempblack. I must agree with some the other posters that the first highlights are a little too stark, however I think you've nailed it on the Champion.

Loving the different coloured tabards as well don't know why I never thought of that to add some flavour, you may have to consider that idea poached.

Keep up the great work and get a tank done, I'm interested to see what you do with them.

Very nicely done. I too am working on BT's right now and your models are a great example of them!

^^ Agree. I'm in the 'love the extreme highlighting' camp, too. It can be hard to make black armour look good but you've done a bang-up job.

Life's been a bit busy, but have managed to add a few to the family!

have about a mix of 10 or so chainsword/bolter marines to go, and a bunch of jump pack guys to finish before i start buying more stuff. Will get onto some tanks next

A few melee guys and a WIP of my favourite looking model, a basic unconverted but a goodie . Have finished his chest, legs, powerfist arm and head, just need to finish off the bolter, arm, and backpack and obviously scrible on the litany etc

I definately prefer the more striking highlighting. Subtelty and smooth blending will come with time and practice, but that cell-shaded highlighting will make your army look great to anyone watching you play on the table top.

Thank you I'm trying to set up a better area to take photos with cleaner lighting, will get some group shots of the army in progress soon as a whole.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is Cell-Shading?
