Spawn of Chaos
|
Due to a variety of factors, my current lack of a job and being 15 among them, I have little money to pour into tanks etc for my Chaos Space Marines.
I've decided I can manage with one thing for my heavy support, and would like to know what everyone thinks I should go for.
Some important things I'm looking at are:
Cool factor. Something neat that can fit in any fluffy army. I'm aiming away from Oblits as they are really pricy, and don't fit a TSons theme.
Cost in $ Compared to Cost in points. I want something that will effectively fill out a solid portion of my army for a reasonable price.
Versatility. I want something I can tailor to suit many things, like high AP or Str, anti horde, etc.
This kind of leaves me at a Predator, a Defiler, a Havoc squad, or a Chaos Dread (I know, technically not Heavy, but same idea).
I'm personally leaning towards the Predator, but what does everyone else think?

Obliterators are the obvious choice!
They're as versatile as you like. You say that you're staying away from them because of price, but then go on to define the role the fill and say that you want it.
You have options.
1. Take some terminators and greenstuff spiky bits into their arms; you can make your own obliterators.
2. Store credit: If you're a reasonably decent player, find out what tournaments are around and participate. If $5 gets you $30 in store credit....well, that's how you can build your army up.

Since you listed Dreadnought as a possible choice , then i would favor that.
AOBR dreads are sold for really low price and its easy to chaosify it.

Oblits would be the obvious choice, I'd thought, but, looking into it, they may not be for me right now.
As a lone Heavy support slot, they are kind of fragile, with a single shot each, save rapid-fire.

Well, it basically depends on the rest of the army.
If you field a full mech army with a Rhino wall, then I'd add a HS tank. My first choice would be a Vindicator or a Defiler.
Otherwise, I'd consider Obliterators, up to 6.

Don't buy a dreadnot if you want to use it to shoot. You could end up destroying one of your own squads by firing heavy weps into it twice in 1 turn. I only run them with Close combat weps.
Id say use a defiler. Its got that battle cannon for anti hord and anti tank if need be + the model looks cool imo.

Vindicator all the way, I have three for my Iron Warriors army (that is yet to be built...) If you give it daemonic possession it can run somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 points, and ignore stunned and shaken. It's a pretty solid money/points ratio, and they're good against absolutely everything. Tanks, hordes, or heavy infantry will feel the pain any way you dish it.

If you're really short on cash, don't spend.
If you're dead set on getting one of those to match a kSons army, get the Defiler. It's got the most conversion & painting potential.
Otherwise, go Havocs, because you can convert them to match the other kSons in your army.

I honestly think it is between Vindies and Defilers as for a 1k sons army you are looking for target saturation to draw fire AWAY from your troops as they are expensive enough as it is and can be fragile. The predator fits better fluffwise but i have never cared for them personally.
Automatically Appended Next Post: To add Vindies and Defilers are best run in pairs. Dreads can be shooty and do fine if you dont mind the slight risk. Best shooty weapon to take on them are Missile Launchers as you roll before the shooting phase and CAN choose to fire Frag instead of Krak if he does go crazy and fire at your own stuff which will minimalize casualties.

It seems to be mostly a personal opinion, based on this, with calls of Vindies, Defilers, Dreads, Oblits, all heavy support choices, really
I think I have it narrowed down, actually.
Either 1 Predator or a pair of Obliterators, after learning their price wasn't quite as bad as I'd thought.
So, between these 2, what should I go for?
Though the oblits don't quite fit TSons, they do fit for Tzeentch, to some degree, so that won't be a worry.
