Hi there everyone, was just looking for some tips/guide on how to do some nice looking brass for my khorne marines. So far I've been using dwarf bronze highlighted with shining gold and am pretty happy with the effect.

I'm using Shining Gold washed with some Ogryn Flesh and then highlighted with Boltgun Metal. Gives it a nice dirty, worn look.

What I usualy do when doing somthing like this is instead of starting of with somthing like dwarf bronze or brazen brass, I use a really dark silver, I usualy use a mix 1:2 of mithril silver and chaos black, but adding a little bit of black to boltgun metal should do.

Then I'd drybrush some brazen brass (dwarf bronze probably works too) and mix some scorched brown in to shining gold to make a slightly dulled down gold and dry brush that on next.

Because I don't play chaos, I usualy take a few extra steps to brighten it up, but this is different so I'd skip the inbetween steps and finish by adding some extreme highlights with mithril silver and the wash the area with a brown wash

Hope this helps!

I like the above miniatures, they´re looking really cruel, and for Khornates, that´s the way to go

I use dwarf Bronze ... had it for ages ... I like it as the base color for almost any metallic gold.

I usually shade with a dark brown wash, and highlight with a mix of shining gold and yellow or white depending on the tint I want. This pic is the basic color (no shading).

and here is a tzeentch pic with the same base color after it has been shaded and highlighted.

For a good brass effect I usually start with boltgun metal, then highlight that with mithril silver. Then wash the lot with 2 or 3 thin coats of Gryphonne sepia.

If you want you can add some thrakka green or hawk turquoise to the deeper bits for corrosion.

I do something completely different for my bronze and metals.

1. Paint all the areas you want bronze with Hawk Turquoise.
2. Heavily Drybrush with Vermin Brown. Just a little bit of hawk should be visible in places like recesses, bolts, etc. (each later drybrush should be progressively lighter)
3. Drybrush with Dwarf Bronze.
4. Drybrush with Shining Gold.
5. Drybrush with Burnished Gold (optional).
6. Lightly Ink raised areas with Gryphon Sepia or Baal Red (optional).

This works pretty well for me, it gives some more contrast and looks a little more aged with some verdigras than other golds/bronzes. It also gives 2 kinds of cotrast instead of just one.
