Well a couple friends talked me into playing warhammer with them on Monday nights. I picked space marines since my friend has orks already and the space marines are the next most interesting to me. Anyways I really dont know where to start with making an army so for now I just went and bought a tactical squad, picked some colors and I'll go from there. Any advice on what I should be getting would be greatly appreciated. Cant decide if I want to go standard marines or BA codex yet. Anyways here are some pics (taken with a phone...sorry). I know its not no pro level stuff but im working at it. None of these are finished yet as you can tell.

I like the painting so far, one tip though... watch out for the mold lines, otherwise looking good.

I like the paint scheme. I don't recognise the colours so I'm gonna asume your chapter is homebrewed, In which case, what do you call them?

It has been varified by John Hurt that the Ultramarines are indeed the greatest space marine chapter.

I just picked some colors I thought would be neat together. I have no name I haven't thought that far ahead yet.

Nice contrast on the colours there mate, what colours are you using? I cannot really see from the pictures but if you haven't already, pick out the soft armour and piping with a contrasting colour. I use a metallic but any colour will do.

I see you also have the Plasma weapons - totally worth it model. I had to make one they're just too funny not to.

Im using Codex grey for the armor, Ice blue for the helmets and blood red with some white mixed in for the chest. I panted the soft armor black just because I couldnt think of any other color to use. And I love the Plasma weapons. Planning on a devastator squad just so I can paint more of them.

I have a friend who paints a Grey homebrew marine army also. He primes white, then codex grey, wash with badab black or Devlan mud, then recolour the armour codex grey and then adds a highlight of fortress grey.

For the aquilla ( the chest eagles) start with a darker red, like mechrite red or similar, then Baal red wash and the blood red. Adding white to red is fine but just be aware that it can give it a pinkish tint rather than a bright red.

For the helmets start with a darker blue perhaps ultramarine or mordian then paint on your Ice blue, wash with Asurman and then re-highlight with the Ice blue.

Each layer of paint should leave a little showing at the edges, this way the colour will gradually change. As a result your mini will have more depth in its colours.

A few last points, when you wash a mini be careful not to apply to much of the wash. The result otherwise is a dirty watermarked staining which doesn't generally look altogether very realistic.

Finally, most importantly, remember this is advice not law. I didn't pay for the models and neither did anyone else on here so remember its what you feel works best for you that counts. So good luck sorry to ramble a bit there and look forward to some updates on those devs.
