Hey All,
for a while now I have been considering doing true scale space wolves as an army, but recently I had a crazy idea. What if I did a Loganwing type of army, but used my True scale models instead. I use terminator legs filled in with Green stuff and slightly beefed up torsos. My thoughts are thus:
-all would have the correct weaponry
-Tactical dreadnought armor would instead be representative of beefier marines and the 5+ invulnerable save would be due to the marines agility (as described in Bill King's space wolf novels and other novels describing normal marines doing more godly things)
-The entire army would not have normal "power armor" so there would be no confusion there.
So what would you thoughts be? Heck Yeah or Heck No? I sort of view this as the movie marine list, but on a legal and legit side.
Thanks,
Chappy P!

I personally hate "true scale" marines, but in a casual game I would certainly let you use them as terminators. Tournaments are iffy, though.

Bringing up tournaments is a slightly redundant point, as the answer to that is always "check with the TO". I wouldn't have a problem with this army if it was clear what everything was.

So far so good. I have never participated in a tournament before so I wouldn't worry about that, I just wondered what people think about in terms of "count as."
Like I stated in my first post, I would make sure that if they have a frost weapon, then I would model them with a frost weapon. I would however model their "stormbolters," as normal, but with drum magazines instead. My original goal of the army was to have a whole normal power armor army of space wolves, but money right now is the biggest restraint. I eventually want to change the army over to a more normal one, not logan wing.

I think it's a little tacky to use Tactical Marines as Terminators, even if they're bulked up. It would be visually jarring to say the least, and if you ever actually got a Terminator in there, things would be really confusing.

So, to get this straight, you'd be playing your truescale marines AS marines, but with 5+ saves?
Yeah. I'd have a problem with that.

Not quite - he'd have a purely power-armoured army in modelling terms, but they would be Terminators in rules terms.
So you'd have a beefy truescale Marine with his trusty bolter in one hand and a Frost Axe in the other (presumably with a 40mm base) which, in rules terms, would be a Wolf Guard with Terminator Armour, Storm Bolter and Frost Axe.
Personally, I like the idea - as long as they are on 40mm bases to make it a bit clearer! However, expect some people to have issues, especially if they aren't at least 25% larger than normal Marine models.

I'd have no problems at all. It sounds like your building them primarily from Terminator components anyway so it's not like they're footprint will be massively different.
GW Termi= Termi legs, base, body, arms and weaapons
TS Space Marine= Termi legs, Termi arms, Termi base
Difference between GW Termi and TS SM=
Power Armor helmet instead of Termi helmet
Tac Bolter instead of Termi storm bolter and powerfist
As long as the army's composition is all Terminator based, there's no gameplay difference.
-Edit-
If the OP were talking about putting down standard power armor minis and saying let's count these as Termis, I'd laugh. OTOH, if he built a TS army as he describes, I'd have no issues.
Check out Migsula's work as an example. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/233990.page
Looking at it purely from a modeling perspective (leaving out the absolutely beautiful paint jobs), would you guys realy not play someone who'd modeled their terminator army in a similar way?

See. NOW, I get it.
Yeah. That would be fine with me.
Additionally, provided they were on the correct bases, I also wouldn't care if you ALSO had regular marines in there. The Termie legs would give them the proper height, and the 40mm bases would give them the proper "footprint."
I don't see a problem with this, at all.

I am confused. Are you saying that, ruleswise, all your models would count as being in termie armor, or would the termie armor just count as power armor as far as the rules go? As long as this fitted w/ the rules & everything was made clear, I would be okay with that.

He is going to play a Loganwing army, where he is using the actual Terminator rules.
He is going to use Terminator models to represent the models using Terminator rules, only modified to look like power armored Space Marines. Like this.
The issue is that there would be counts-as with the weapons. Storm bolters would look like regular bolters, etc.
All clear? And yes, I would happily play against this army! Very cool idea.

Thanks everyone who has replied!
Here is a link to my True Scale marine thread I started along time ago:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/215582.page
So far many of you have "caught" on to what I want to do, so I am sorry if I didn't explain myself more clearly.
I think Rube has summed it up well:
I would play Logan wing where all the models would be "in Terminator armor," however I would MODEL them as though they were in POWER armor.
Storm bolters would look like a normal bolter, but with a Drum magazine rather than the bulkier size. All other weapons would look as they should, such as wolf claws, Thunder hammers, storm shield and the like.
eventually, as I have money, I would make the army as True scale and make a distinction between power armor and terminator armor. Right now I do not have the luxury.
I may have to work some more on this to give you guys a good idea of what I wish to accomplish.
Thanks again,
Chappy P!

Basically, you want people to see big Tacs w/ Bolters as Termies w/ Stormbolters?
Even if based properly on 40s, the weapons would be a problem for me.
Big marines with Termie weapon loadouts would be OK.

wow and it's people like you that make me want to drop away from the hobby. The one thing in which I feel has killed 40K, which apocalypse tried to capture was the feel for the Rogue trader 1st edition of the game, when the game was the highlight not the competitiveness.
You see this attitude through out these forums, where units or armies are considered weak, stupid or poor, due to someone wanting to be fluffy or in this case fun. I personally do not see the issue as long as the army wide is either in power or terminator armor.
I would agree if I had an army of mixed armor types and things getting rather confusing. However I do not see a big deal if I came to the table and if a Wolfguard has a frost weapon and storm bolter and is armed with a drum fed bolter and a frost weapon??
I for one, would welcome more creativity in a 40k battle. Would someone not play against Migsula if he uses a Marine to represent Iron Hand Straken? Or when he used a mix of Gundam, 1/35 scale military and GW parts to make his High Tech Tyranid army? Or as some one posted The Apologist who uses roughly the same type of marine that I would?
Just stupid...rant over...and no I am not some young dumb kid, I have been playing this game since I was in Middle school when it first came out and yes I still own my original copy of Rogue Trader.
