Devastating Dark Reaper
|
So after thinking about how many times I have been incredibly unlucky in 40K, I have decided to make a topic on it. Here are a selection of my unluckiest 40K moments:
Phoenix Lord Asurmen on full wounds, got hit and wounded 5 times by a squad of Tactical Marines Boltguns. I rolled all 1's in the 5 dice on his 2+ armour save
The Avatar of Khaine killed by a Splinter Pistol
Guardians firing a Plasma Eldar Missile Launcher shot, which scattered onto themselves killing them all (5 Guardians)
Failing all 3 of my Pathfinders 2+ Cover Saves from 3 wounds from a Frag Missile Launcher shot
Never hitting with a single shot in 2 turns with my entire 1000 Point Blood Angels army (rolling all 1's and 2's to hit for 2 turns)
Plasma Cannon shot fired at my Pathfinders scattering 8" onto my Falcon's back armour, Immoblising it on the first turn
Scattering Plasma Cannon shot aimed at my Wave Serpent scattering onto the just disembarked Guardians, killing 7 of them including the 2 Heavy Weapon's Crew
3 Penetrating Fire Dragon hits on a Dark Eldar Ravager needing a 2 to Destroy it and a 3 to blow it up (+1 Open Topped, +1 AP1, +1 Tank Hunters) and rolling all 1's when the Kill Point would have put me level and the game would have been a draw
Flechette Dischargers from a Devilfish killing all 3 of my Assault Marines that charged it hoping to destroy with the Sergeants Power Fist
3 Flamer wounds on Astorath the Grim still on 3 wounds. I rolled on all 1's for his 2+ armour save
There are more but I can't think of them right now. I will edit them in when I think of some more that have happened to me. Please post your unluckiest moments in the comments below. Thank you.

Successfully passing BiD on my full plasma CCS (4 plasma guns, 1 plasma pistol) and then rolling 9 1s and 2s to hit.
No problem, I though, I can re-roll those. I got NINE ONES on the re-roll. Every member of the squad died in one turn to THEIR OWN SHOOTING.
I don't know what the probability of something like that happening is but I was not impressed.

Stalwart Strike Squad Grey Knight
|
Land Raider rams a Rhino, it explodes and takes out a couple Grey Hunter Bolter Scrubs. I dismbark my 8-man GK squad with twin incinerators, and one shooting phase later that Grey Hunter squad is down to 3 men- a Mark of the Wulfen, Banner, and Meltagun. Then I assault to mop them up.
Justicar misses two attacks and the third fails to wound, the GHs kill 3 GKs, the rest of the GKs proceed to either miss, fail to wound, or my opponent makes his armor save. The next assault phase sees my GKs go down to a 2-man squad, and then it finally ends in the 3rd assault phase with only the Justicar walking out of it, who then gets killed by a flamestorm cannon.

2 Obliterators, 11" away from 3 nasty wolfguard. Rapid fire TL plas guns.
Two 1's and two 2's were rolled....'No problem, theyre twin linked!!! those wolves are gonna die!!!'
Rolled FOUR MORE 1's!! Ok, gets hot, it sucks, but they have 2+ armor saves....
And yep, FOUR MORE 1's.... = Obliterator Seppuku
My opponent at least thought it was funny, and declared his 3 wolfguard were pinned through the next turn from laughing.

My Eldar Avatar is on a bad luck streak since he Wrecked LR and killed 2 TACs by himself. Can't do squad and usually saves one in a million.
Is bad luck when your opponent has Uber good luck?
Because I had a whole 1500 army shooting at SW pup with 2+/3++ and doing only 2 wounds :(
He was doomed and it something near 2 DA bladestorming, 3WW with scatters, 4 wave serpents, 2 prisms and 6 man unit of Fire Dragons.
It was DoW and his HQ was poorly placed (away from troops and closing in towards my board) and I thought: wow, an easy catch.. Yeah right.. :/

when i first got back into 40k i went to my GW store, the guy was only too anxious to show my how the new rules were better than the 2nd edition, a squad of about 10 ork boys shot at my 5 terminators killing every one of them. The guy was like, err thats does not usually happen, its ment to be rigged so the spacemarine side almost always wins.

Not dice related- and didnt happen to me- but I saw a guy at a tourney knock his open case of pro-painted Eldar off the game table with his man-boobs.
Turns out man boobs are a wounds on a 1+, variable size template that dont even allow cover saves to models embarked in a transport case.
They were really pro painted too....by a multiple GD winner. They guy of course blamed the case for being defective....

I was playing in a game against Guard once with my Space Wolves, and two of my Long Fangs shot at a Leam Russ with their Lascannons, and exploded it. this then resulted in a 6'' hole being created, as a good 30 or so Guardsmen died in the explosion

for some reason when i play this one guy he always rolls very badly(30 splinter rifle wounds on space marines and he wiffs them all) yet we always seem to have a draw or a loss in his favor.
i call it pity and punishment for him playing DE.
i once rolled 4 1s in a row for a guys 2+ armor.

I had a squadron of three Lrusses. Middle one blows up. The two on the end close ranks for coherency and each roll a 1 for DT test. Immobilized in squadrons = wrecked. We wrecked both remaining russes instead of leaving one as a immobilized single unit. O well. Sucky, but I still won the game.

Well, one of the russes should have been left on the table and treated as a single immobilized unit. The last vehicle becomes a single unit in a squadron. Or maybe we did it right because it was simultaneous?
