Okay, so I bought some Pig Iron production heads for a new 40k Cadian army on a whim. However, it occurs to me that the Games Workshop store I primarly use for my gaming might not be okay with me using them! I was wondering if Games Workshop has any official policy on this? I've heard '75% of a model must be of Games Workshop origin' bandied about before, but I don't know if that was official or just heresay.
I'm in the north-east of the UK, if country makes any difference on leniency (I imagine they're more lenient in the US, where they have fewer players to keep ahold of).
And yeah, I know the only definitive answer I'm going to get is by going to my LFGS and asking. I was just wondering if there was an official answer rather than leaving the fate of my awesome new Pig Iron heads to some red shirt possibly having a bad day...
Thanks!

I don't think there is an 'official policy' per se, that being said and GW being GW, they are bound to look unfavourably at you using non-GW elements. If it were a GW sponsored tournament, then there may well be restrictions on non-GW minis / components. I too have heard of this 75% figure before but I am not sure if that applies to conversions - does swapping a head count as a conversion? I don't know. Anyway, your best bet would be to check - it may well be that the local store manager is a non-arsehole who is perfectly happy to let them ride. Of course, the reverse could be just as likely.

If you paid for full cadians and choose to replace the heads with pig iron heads, lego smiley heads or rice crispies, that's your right and if some GW dude gives you grief, rain down hell on him.
You're not bringing in another mini, you're using a GW mini that you've made alteration to.

No official line then, I figured as much! Thanks for the responses!
I think I'll just be a sneaky git and turn up with a fully painted army with the conversions, and hope it's harder to say no to someone who's already spent a few hundred pounds on an army. Worse comes to worse and they still say no, I have an excuse to finally move to an independent store. Or replace the heads with the god-awful standard Cadian ones.

GW are as I understand it ok with head/weapon/equipment swaps provided that the majority is GW. As you say various people will quote percentages, usually based off of what tournament rules they have encountered.
If it is a Tourney then check the pack, if it is a GW store you should be fine the odd asshat redshirt aside.

Truth is, that you never can tell when one redshirt might raise a stink, but in general you should have no problem. I brought in my IG army that is comprised of Cadians with Pig Iron heads, to "Armies on Parade" day at the Chicago GW Bunker, and I got to put it on display just like everyone else.
I even got some very favorable comments and questions from customers and a staffer. As long as the base model is GW, and you conform to WYSIWYG in tourneys, you should have no problem.
However, I'm also planning on painting up a platoon or two of the WF Shock troopers. Even though they will have GW lasguns and equipment, I still have a feeling that they would not be allowed out of the case at a GW store.

Hmm, I wish you good luck but I agree that they will fall the wrong side of whatever GW imaginary line they are using in their store. Of course whether the dumb smuck running the GW store on that day recognises the fact is another question? Eilif - I'd like to enter my IG army please. Pimply GW staffer [in a Black/blur shirt appearantly?!] - Okay, WOW love the steel legion conversion! What are they Marine heads? Although.... TFG - The're not GW miniatures. I demand a ruling....blah....blah...etc.
