Title says it all. Which armies do you think will do the best at the tournaments this weekend?

I feel like the following will:

Tyranids - They get very scary at higher points levels. And Tervigon spam will allow people to win by not losing.

CSM - I don't know how people keep doing well with this book, but I am sure this weekend will be business as usual.

Space Wolves - Multiple rune priest and logan wing armies will probably dominate this weekend. The shear amount of high quality stuff they can throw at you at 2500 will make them tough for most battle force armies that show up this weekend to deal with.

Orks - As long as ork players can continue to get away with playing 3-4 turns they will continue to win by not losing.

Anyways, there are my predictions for (not necessarily the best codices) which codices will produce the most winners.

Lets hear everyone elses.

My prediction is that Foot Orks and Horde Tyranids will probably be the lists to beat. As they have plenty of assault potential and can cover the table for the first mission.

Yes you can tank shock them around the table, but then you are dealing with the counter assault from things like scoring Nobz to deal with. A combination of Ghaz, a Kan Wall, Nobz, and at least 90 Boyz keeps me up at night.

IG still has a chance if it totally ignores round 3 and just goes for the table. I expect the top list to be more Russ heavy and standing infantry platoon heavy then the typical "leaf blower" list.

Space Wolves don't suffer at all. Loganwing and Thunderwolf lists are still extremely potent and don't suffer in the third mission as badly as other Marine Builds. Plus they still have some of the cheapest most plentiful Marine troop choices in the game, and Long Fang spam suffers nothing in these missions. They have a lot of different build types that will still do well.

Blood Angels will have an uphill battle because most of their top builds are Mission 3 Kill Point heavy. However, they do have certain rather good units that can be huge force mulipliers in certain situations, so they have a shot.

Space Marines are still a flexible codex, and they have a lot of shooty options to address the more aggressive top builds. Vulkan marines should do well as always if they can drop the easy 3 kill points the Land Speeders provide. The Stelek "Best of" list will suffer as well. One advantage is that combat squads suffer almost nothing in this format, so a strong shooty base can work out well.

Deamons actually get a pretty huge boast as most of their units are low on Mission 3 kill points, and the fact that most people will be brining a little less tanks as normal gives them a huge boast as well. I expect them to do well against certain builds.

My prediction is that anybody who is a good Horde player will probably be the person to beat. Horde Orks, and Horde Tyranids are going to be near the top, followed by Space Wolves and IG. All other factors being equal of course.

Nids won't be top army. Most armies are maxing out the elites at all point levels as it is, and thats where all the worthwhile stuff is at. Essentially, they do not scale well.

I think hybrid Space Wolves and Hybrid Guard are the lists that will dominate, all generalship being equal. They have enough mechanization to crush the first two scenarios, but not so heavy that they cease to be viable in round three.

PS- Horde armies will not be able to get their games done in a timely manner, especially if the other person stalls.

I'm hoping for knee jerk Horde army reactions. I'm playing WH afterall and we love Horde armies.

The armies with the best generals.

I think lots of IG builds will be pretty hard. Eldar can bring a lot of pain. A good general can really win with orks, but has to be quick.

Personally I'll be brining a Vulkan/Khan combo with a whole bunch of terminators and 10 multi meltas.

Blood Angels < Space Wolves by a significant amount.

Im thinking IG and wolves will do well, BA if they have a good player, but im not sold on them yet.

Bugs are a maybe, but the person is going to need to bring a stelek style hive guard/tyrannofex/tervigon spam list.

Obviously any player who knows what they are doing will do better then others.

The guy who wrote the scenarios is bringing Orks I hear, if that helps you decide what will do well in prelims.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

he's bringing nob bikers no less.

There's been grumbling because it could be seen that scenario 3 was written by him for him to get an edge on mechanized armies. My nob bikers kill 3 chimeras, before dying, I'm winning 12-3.

Thats crap. If you write the scenarios you shouldnt be able to play as anything more then a ringer. I hate when tournament organizers play.

I think that the IG players who bring their IG will do well, but there might be a certain stigma attached to IG by now, and some guys will be intimidated by mission three and overcompensate.

Orks stand a good chance, as do wolves/blood angels. Which army does better will be up to the player, I think marine armies in general will have an advantage.

Some IG players will do well. Im thinking a majority are just list kiddies, like all the eldar players in 4th, myself in included. Anyone really good wont have too much trouble beating some goober who bought a leafblower clone because he cant think.

I am thinking BA are overrated. Wolves are very solid though. Orks, so long as they have a good player will do well. 5 wagon armies or horde can be hard to stop. The guy who won the bookeries last year had 180 boyz, gazzy, some lootas, snikrot, and some kopters and all his games went the full time.

Realistically, it's the prelims, the competition isn't going to be strong enough to really sort out the best armies.

That said, I'm bringing mech Vulkan and am honestly not too scared about the third mission, as the armies that have the biggest advantage in the mission are the ones easiest to table with mech Vulkan.

Just like in the old 3rd ed book.. BA will win every time vs wolves if they charge, and its a lot easier to do since they are faster than SW.. Missile spam is overrated really

FNP spam is extremely dangerous (See plague marines that are cheaper and faster)..

But I think IG will be the big winner just due to the amount of them

I think top three are BA, IG, and Nids this year. I think BA can avoid the Alpha Strikes and Nids can win by not losing while covering the table. Everyone will be playing a IG variant or building a list planning on trying to counter it at least once per round I would guess.

I hope it's a shocker just to get everyone talking about something besides Leaf Blower.

In my happy place, I'm in my happy place...

Basically anyone who really knows thier army and is a good general will win it.

I chose Eldar this year, I have 13 units.

10 are very good against horde lists, My 2 units of pathfinders have thier place for big hitters, my Avatar will be the only thing that would die easily due to numbers and only take a couple with him.

9 are anti tank capable at least to AV12, my Harlequins can possibly do something but I prefer to leave them out of that role unless its razorback spam or something. One my Dire Avenger squads are useless unless I get rear armor shots.

My list has 6 troop choices, is not min/maxed for anything and has units some people say aren't good. But I have been playing with these units for years. I know them well and generally do well.

I have been out of the hobby for about 8 months, but have played a few games this week and other than the inevitable holy crap, they can do that now?!? I have still won all my games.

I have to say Space Wolves as the best Psykers in the 40K universe now (love how they stuck with the fluff) are strong, but if you put 800 points into 10 models they are still going to die, simply due to volume of fire. Most people should be prepared.

Haven't played the new Blood Angels, they seem to have pretty strong tricks and are cheaper than regular marines so they should do well, depends on how well people play the tricks.

IG is still going to be strong. The only issue is players who don't know how to play their lists beyond the volume of killy-ness and use strategy will lose in mission 3. But if they are contending at that point in the tourney the skilled player would have won regardless.

The only year that scenarios dictated winners was the first year Semi's mission 2. If you went first and didn't suck you won. Especially since many people did not have the missions in advance unless they got them from their FLGS.

Of the common very competitive lists, Loganwing in particular is unaffected (and therefore at an advantage) in S3.

What is the main advantage and/or build of logan wing over deathwing? Much cheaper terminators? Ive never actually seen it played by a competent opponent
