US President Barack Obama has vowed to end the "cosy relationship" between oil companies and US regulators in the light of the Gulf of Mexico disaster
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8683714.stm
Since the US is now rejecting oil and all its evils , how will it cope with a 230% price increase ?

It's BBC; you'll notice they call their prime minister by Mr. so why not the president of another country?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

They do that crap depending on their side. I can recall many people giving interviews when GWB was in office and calling him Mr. Bush and in the same sentence saying President Clinton. That used to peeve my incredibly red family off so much

I believe that US federal regulatory agencies are part of the President's house.
Not that anything is likely to come of this.

So, bringing them into line with fuel costs in the UK then?
@ Cannerus_The_Unbearable - I imagine it is because you are addressing "Mr Obama", and referring to "President Clinton".

It refers to him as President Obama a fair few times also. It's a British article, it's not going to be bound to the 'you must refer to him as president' rule is it.
Or if that's no good. Lets turn an insignificant detail into an indication of underlying right/left wing bias.

I meant in interviews involving neither person. It was mostly CNN that I noted doing it.

Occasionally it is also used to denote the difference between the administration, and the person; eg. Mr. Obama for the person, President Obama for the administration.

We can also use that same principle for the Administration; Mr. Administration to his friends, and President Administration when he launches tactical missiles at Al' Qeada bases (i.e. peasant villages filled with bomb targets [i.e. children]).

But I am sure there is a person out there who is last named President. Wouldn't it be easier to call a person by their actual last name than use one that is not really their last name and could be someone else's last name?

We'll make a special exception for any Mr. Presidents who become president. If any such Presidents become President, for the duration of their term(s) they will be referred to as 'Mr. President.'
I like the way we do it now.

I'm still trying to figure out how the supposed reform of the MMS is tacit to the rejection of oil.
