Subject: Painting at the Hardboy? How was it?

What was the painting like at the hardboy round 1 this year?
I am curious what people saw (I did not attend).
Was the event dominated by mismatched loaner armies/units and hastily glued together blood angels, or was it more refined?
What was the experience (in your area) and did painting matter to you at all?

My army is painted, but I played against three unpainted armies.
Personally no objection to grey models, but it would have made for nicer battle reports if they were painted. :(

That was kind of a disappointment for me. I spent a lot of time to get my army painted (yes, I know this was not necessary) and made a display board to carry them between tables and such.
I knew I would be seeing a lot of unpainted, but yeck. I would say about 50% of the armies were fully painted to tabletop standards.
Luckily, I got 2 out of 3 painted opponents for my games. The galling part is that the army I was massacred by was only about 20-30% painted with a ton of grey plastic.
What happenned to painter's luck?

I was a mish mash from painted to grey plastic. I usually paint in 2000 point blocks so I end up with unpainted models at 'Ard boyz.

My prelim was not representative, as I helped coordinate for a store to run it on Friday so a bunch of us could play in the Boston Brawl Sat & Sun. 7/10 players were guys I knew, hardcore tournament vets not local to the store. All of us were fully painted, usually to a high standard. The three locals were a mix; I think one looked decent/was painted; the other two were pretty poor, filling points with unpainted and/or borrowed stuff. Nice guys, though.

I didn't play, but I did go to watch the battles going on. Our store actually had almost every army fully, or near fully painted. Some to quite a high standard. There was one mismatched army, and one that was gray plastic, otherwise the 12 other players had fully painted armies (not the best paint jobs, but they were decent enough) Some of the paint jobs were really good looking.

I took first at my flgs, but only 80% of my army was painted. I went against 3 well-painted and themed armies.
After looking at the other posts, it might have been the most painted 'ard Boyz Round 1 I've heard of.
