In a time filled with giant genetically engineered super-warriors, alien monstrosities and extradimensional invaders conjured from your own nightmares the Imperial Guard are just men armed with rifles; armoured most heavily in the steel toes of their boots. That's why they're my favorite, they're the little guys in the big, bad galaxy. That being said some of these guys are pretty hardcore in their own right.
Whether it's because they were trained from birth to be a trooper in worldwide army, come from a planet where the tree-moss tries to eat your face, survived a 500 year atmoic war and want some more or just have really spiffy uniforms they're all pretty cool but who's your favorite?

Cadians are cool. I would say everyone except Mordians and Praetorians. They're the guys with the spiffy uniforms I was talking about.

Which one had Ollinus Pious in it? Whatever it was, that one.

Gonna have to go with the Elysian Drop Troops. There is just something about jumping behind your enemy that gets my blood pumping.

I wouldn't say that. Cadia is an interesting Idea: an entire planet under arms at all times out of neccesity. I see them as a long suffering people. They have so many men killed in battle that there isn't enough land for all the tombstones.

Ya, Elysians are cool. They are the most modern Army. They look like actual special forces and fight like them too. They're like the rangers from Black Hawk Down. Also: Drop Sentinals!

Like 95% of Imperial Guard regiments? All of them lose enormous amounts of men...it's the fething IG after all. All of them suffer, it's just that with the Vostroyans, or the Death Korps, or the Mordians, they do it with actual character

I wonder if Praetorians will get a single vote? Zulu-fighters with grenade-launchers: any takers? No? ok, well they make me smile.

Catachans - entirely militarized
Steel Legion - practically entirely militarized
Mordian's - They're essentially Prussian's in space, so i'd say they're in the same vein as the Steel Legion
Valhallans - entirely militarized after the Ork Waaagh!!!

I'll agree Cadians are the most 'normal" of all them. They're like the Ultramarines of the Guard. You need normal guys though. First plastic IG army was Catachans and they didn't sell so well I believe because people were looking for something more normal.

As for those other guys.
Catachan has many civilians. So does Armageddon, Mordia and Valhalla. Don't know about Krieg: most people there are dead....

Sure, Catachan has civilians...until they're formally placed into the IG; Catachan is, arguably, the most dangerous Death World, remember? Armageddon has civilians, until they're all conscripted during an ork waaagh or a Chaos invasion; same with Mordia and Valhalla

Armageddon probably has more people in hive gang militia than in the actual Steel Legion. Everyone on that planet is fighting Orks but most are do-it-youselfing it. Also most Catachans are not in the Imperial Guard. Ditto with Mordia and Valhalla.

That's the thing about Cadia: Most people are actual Rifle carrying Imperial Guard. 71.75% of the population. The rest: work for the Imperial Guard.

I am very surprised that Catachans don't have a single vote. They've certainly got the coolest planet. Not surprised about the Praetorians though......still waiting for them to get a vote.

The Catachans are way too 80's Rambo for me

Death Korps FTW they took way worse than the 13th black crusade and didnt have EVERYONE backing them up, sure 13th black crusade was tough but i mean chaos marines are still infantry on the ground you can fight, try fighting off a nuke

Krieg, all that atomic cleansing must have done something to their brains. Well and while I don't like the models that much you've gotta respect Catachans. Nothing like facing an Ork horde with nothing but boots, pants a knife and lasgun.

Steel Legion are my personal favorite costume wise. The mustard yellow is pretty stylish.

that wasn't real anger, I was just really surprised that other regiments got so many votes, then I realized that people were basing this primarily on what the models look like...death korp and elysians and whatnot are cool and have very good models, but it would be pretty difficult to argue that they are more badass fluffwise than catachans, seriously no regiment's average soldier is tougher or a better fighter than a catachan...don't believe me, read the catachan novel in the imperial guard omnibus and truly ask yourself if an average grunt from any other regiment could go through what the main character did to be inducted into the regiment
also, I agree the models aren't great, but it doesn't stop me from collecting them...and yes, I am incredibly bias

well, I have read many imperial guard novels, and the only one that made the character appear more skilled/badass than the catachan is kage from the last chancers, and that doesn't really count

I think I may have to create an IG killteam based on The Expendables once I've seen it in cinema forty or fifty times, whether or not I end up doing an entire Catachan special forces army.

I like the appeal of the Armageddon "Mechanized" armies however.
