Subject: FL Ard Boys Semifinals - Where is everyone going?

I am still uncertain as to where I am going to go for the semifinal round, so I figured I would see where everyone else in FL is planning on attending?
Two of the locations are a hefty drive (why did GW choose two South FL locations within short distance, and none in Central FL?) while the nearest location (the Jacksonville location) will not answer my rules questions (I asked a couple questions about deffrollas, and some questions about scout moves and first turn assaults).
So, FL dakka-ites, which location are you planning on attending? and why?

I was told Sci-Fi City in Orlando was also holding semis. Thats about a central as it gets. I think the big issue with any location will be how many boards can they run at any one time. I don't think there are any real large gaming centers in Florida. I've heard all kind of weird rule calls by different refs and I honestly can't see why everyone doesn't just use the gw and adepticon faq/clarifications. So atleast everyone is playing on a level field.

I assumed they were going to, but they aren't listed online, and when I inquired about it, GW gave me the same list of three.

Hmm not 100% then. I was told they were by the people at Mega after the first round. But they might have just been making an assumption from past years.

As you are from gainesville, isn't Jacksonville just a hop skip and jump away? Looks like Tally is hitting Jaxx or ATL.

Yeah....Gainsville is 40 minutes from Jax. 35 minutes.
I was at a tournament this past weekend in Atlanta at Treefort Games, and they have about 20 tables, well lit area, and the locals are competent gamers. Suncoast in Jacksonville.....I've never gamed there, but I read in another thread somewhere that they only have 10 tables. That's 20 gamers for semi-finals, and with 3 stores that I know about in Jacksonville alone, that's 9/20 filled.

Yes, Jacksonville is close, but I'm having some reservations about attending their event after a couple emails with their TO who told me deffrollas don't work against vehicles (despite an official FAQ stating otherwise) or units who death or glory and aren't considered part of the hull (which doesn't bother me... except for this next bit) unless you're determining armor facing or LOS at which point they are... which essentially turns my battlewagons into expensive AV12 open-topped death-traps.

You may wish to e-mail the store owner a link to the Ork FAQ and let him know that if the store is hosting a GW event and intentionally not using GW rules, they risk losing hosting of the event.

Sci-Fi was supposed to be on the list, but isn't. Which totally sucks. They have enough space for 20 tables at least. Oh well. The Jax location is closer for me, but not too sure on how many tables that place can hold. GW really screwed the central florida gamers. There are 3 stores in CF that can host this event with no space issues. Sci-Fi, Phoenix, and CoC all can run this event with no problem.

To help answer some questions, I will be assisting the TO for Suncoast. I spoke with them this weekend regarding the concerns of Gamers for the tournament.
First off, in regards to space, they are well aware they are looking at potentially three states or more worth of people showing up. GA, FL, AL etc...to respond to this, they have rented space from the restraunt next door to add more tables...they are also converting a portion of their sales floor to tables as well. They are attempting to organise space for around 40-70 gamers....i.e 20-30 tables in total. Their gaming area can hold 18 at a stretch, but they ARE planning on alot of people. I HANDILY recommend calling and reserving your space before hand to help with an accurate count.
Secondly, in regards to the FAQ's and rules, we as organizers are planning on using the INAT FAQ if GW will let us. We are waiting on mr. Gruehalla to get back to us whether that is cool or not. I am tempted personally just to say yes use it, since it is accessable to all for free, and any GW FAQ superceeds it if applicable. i.e Deffrolla. I will be on hand to assist.
Any other questions for SunCoast can be posted on here, and I will endeavour to foreward it to them. I also recommend calling them! I will post in regards to the rules when I get a more concrete answer.

Yes, there was much anger generated by the Central Florida Community about this. A lot of good players who played hard to qualify are not even going because of this. And they will freely admit that they may not have played in the Preliminaries if they knew the Semi-finals where not going to be hosted locally. It is not a bad assumption, since Sci-Fi has hosted the Semi-finals since the tournament started. Sci-Fi not getting it was a bog surprise to everyone. Especially the staff at Sci-Fi who where working on expanding the quantity and quality of tables specifically for this event.
But enough of that. Sci-Fi will be hosting an "un-official" Aard Boyz tournament that day. Open for anybody who failed to qualify, or doesn't feel to make the trip.

Know how feels guys, 2 years ago I won my prelims only to find out that the closest semis was about 6+ hours away >.<. Made worse by the fact that a shop some 2 hours away had been assured that they would be hosting. Didn't make it that year, which is a shame, because a gypsy woman told me I would have won it all if I'd gone.

Thanks HiveFleet,
way to step up and offer to help out. I for one am glad to see more and more tournaments use the INAT. I don't agree with all their rules but at least everyone is on the same page when they come from different stores.
Our local used INAT for the past few tournaments and we had no arguments that were not easily solved even with players from different stores that play with shop rules.
looks like the jax tourny will be well run and ready for a large crowd.
BTW... do you need additional terrain?

The INAT FAQ is as many pages or more than the rules in the BRB. You should let everyone know ahead of time that is coming if you will use it so they have plenty of time to study it. Everyone across the country ideally should be using the same set of rules in the 2nd round.

Really, I thought CoC hosted the first year's Semis?
I was expecting the move to Tampa-ish, as that would still have kept it in the 'central fla' realm, but shifted it for store fairness (CoC, then SciFi...then '?').
I understood the moves they made from a number of stores that had already hosted it, trying to avoid favoritism, but to put two in the Miami Area, and none in the I-4 Corridor(ish) was ridiculous.
GW is trying to avoid perceived preferences, but needed to look beyond area codes for separation and balance.

There should have been a South Florida, a Central Florida, and a North Florida location, instead of the single North Florida, and double South Florida locations. As it stands now, 50% of the state is traveling to a single store, while the other 50% gets split between two.

And YES! Terrain is much needed and apprieciated. We are currently scouring our local scene for additional battlemats, terrain, and pretty much anything we can get our hands on. If you wish to donate Terrain, please make sure to have your name on it. We will also be taking photos of all donated terrain so that there will be no mix ups when it comes to the break down and clean up. We will take every effort possible to make sure your terrain is respected and returned to you.

I have heard that some stores have contacted GW, that GW is NOT using any FAQ not of its own creation, and that local stores are being told to do the same? Indeed, that the Florida Suncoast location is now BACK to dice offs?

HiveFleet,
You should tap the Guardians board on Karak for terrain donations as well. I can bring some of the terrain that I own (even if it's not pretty) over to Suncoast this Saturday.
Three stores hosted the prelims for 'Ardboys in Jax, but only one is hosting the semis? Would Wardogs or Borderlands be able to handle overflow if it gets that big?

How would they other stores handle overflow? Are you supposed to drive across town between matches? Or play all three games in one store? And if you play three games at not Suncoast....and are the winner of the overflow tournament, then what? You can't have prize support from GW. o.O
Unfortunately, 'Ard Boyz semi-finals is one of those events where you hope for a local event, or you drive to one (or sign up early) to get into a spot. Fayetteville (NC) isn't full yet. =p I don't know anything about south Florida or Treefort in GA

HiveFleet, It has been posted that the SunCoast is again not using the INAT and is instead going to use house rules.
The reason was that their contact at GW said the INAT is not offical....
Please pass on to the TO that the ArdBoys final round used the INAT last year and plans to use it again this year. If you ask a GW rep if the INAT is offical they have to say "no" but they do use it in their own GW offical tournaments to help make the playing field fair and not favor local players that know what the house rules will be.
thanks for your help.

I think its kind of funny that FL peeps are complaining about their 3 locations. TX has 4. CA, MI, NY, and PA have 2.
Everywhere else its 1 or none.
If you include the Canadian locations, the GW site only lists 33 States/Provinces.
Some people don't realy have a choice of where to go.
Maybe next year they can add a quarter final round between the prelims and the semis.

Thanks for the updates all!
yes, I have been co ordinating with the Guardians on Karak, and Suncoast, and was informed that GW replied and put the Kibosh on the INAT for an official stamp. The 'officialness' for rules questions will be codex > FAQ > BRB basically. If there is any further questions, well, a dice off is in order.
I will submit to the TO the wisdom of just ignoring GW 'decree' and using it anyway, but it is ultimately up to them. I believe Bill (the store owner) is putting together an announcment on what to expect. I will foreward you all to it if I can.

thanks for the info HiveFleet.
if they don't go with INAT faq will you be fielding questions so that non-local players know how some rulings may affect their armies before hand? Or is everything strictly going to be a dice-off.
For example:
does the "shield of Sanguinis" provide and 5+ cover save to vehicles within 6"?
depending on if this is allowed or not allowed may alter if I take that power.
if it is a roll-off then its to hard to build an army that might take something.
