I got into a side rant with somebody on a different thread and figured I'd post this here to get others opinions. Whats your favorite RTS and why? Try not to bash my precious Starcraft too much. As you can see my favorite is Starcraft. I fell in love with it for its unique and advanced appearance (at the time) as well as the insane level of customization in the custom map creator. If it wasnt for the Starcraft 2 beta eating up time I would still be playing the custom maps on the original. I will probably go back to them while I wait for a price drop since I don't wanna buy the same game 3 times at full price. in greedy Blizzard.........*wander off cursing*

For me it's a tie between Warcraft 2 and Command and Conquer: Red Alert. Never did play Total Annihilation though I remember when it came out it was huge. I was a great fan of Starcraft too, lots of fun with the single player campaigns there.

I'm gonna go with Dark Crusade/Soulstorm. Hated how DoW2 changed the game; I'll stick to my traditional RTS games, thank you. (Granted the campaigns were still epic, though given my lack of enthusiasm for online play, not worth the 30 bucks)

I'm surprised how many people still like StarCraft, though. Compared to modern games, it is a freaking slow-paced game.

Soulstorm was garbage.

Dark Crusade was fun, but it was no Winter Assault. A sudden cap on Kasrkin made me annnngrrrryyy.

I played the original Warcraft when it came out on my friend's dad's 486. Good memories. Dawn of War: Winter Assault was great.

Winter Assault is probably my least favorite of the DOW games. That mission in the trenches was abominable.

Homeworld Series, I loved 1 the most though.
IMO, everything paled in comparison to how unique that game was at the time.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

I would have to say it's Red Alert 2/Expansion first with DoW1/Expansions in close second with Age of Empires 2/Expansion in an almost distant third.

+1 for both TW and M&B:W (Though Mount and Blade is more of an RPG with RTS elements)

Also, the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert sheerly for how easy it was to modify game files to produce hilarious results. For example, making attack dogs capable of leaping across the biggest maps. Or having every type of infantry cause a nuclear explosion when they died. Godly civilians was a good one too - Civvies blowing up mammoth tanks with single pistol shots was awesome
