A new edition of a game usually prompts people to begin that army they've always wanted-I know it does me, anyway. So I thought we could share our ideas or plans for some armies we are considering creating come July. Mine are listed below:
  • Chaos Dwarves

  • Steampunk Skaven (Steampowered screaming bell....come on, you know you want it....)

  • 'Regular' (if one can call them that) Daemons-not heavily converted or anything, mainly just a stock army

  • Witchhunting Warriors of Chaos-we all know Khorne doesn't like sorcery. Well, what about a band of Khornate worshippers who actively hunt out witches and sorcerors? Would be difficult to get right, but would look awesome

I've already started beastmen (as in, I've assembled one box of Gors, but have all my other 2250 points worth of boxes on my painting desk), but I did do it because of 8th edition.

I had been working on my ogres before i heard about 8th edition. Now that I am seeing the new rules i am excited!

Well if I was a better converter I would go for Chaos Dwarves. I have wanted a Chaos Dwarf army since I heard about them, as I love the daemonic mechanic hybrids but I don't think it will ever happen.

I also would like to start elite storm vermin themed Skaven, and Ogres (improving my very small army), but I doubt I will get around to either. To do them properly I would love to spend a long time modeling them to be very individual (especially the ogres) but I am buried beneath a mountain of NGs and I think they will take priority.

Starting with 8th Edition (and as soon as my VC army is finished) I will start collecting armies as the books are released. So for example, if the first book AFTER 8th Edition is released happen to be say...Empire....I will collect Empire and so on

I am considering either WoC or Dark Elves for 8th.
The Dark Elves, sad to say, would be your typical tournament BG unit+2 hydras list, but it would be a Cult of Slaanesh based army (WoC with elf heads as black guard, Daemonettes as witch elves, and gribbly beasty made of spawn for hydras)
The WoC would be a small Nurgle based army with nothing special, mostly warriors with 2x marauder horsies

If I had the money, I was thinking "Nurgle" Necromancer Army. Small Warband list, really, using a Necromancer as general (if that's possible) backed up by mostly Ghouls and Zombies. Might be more than one Necromancer (if Necromancers can be general, possibly two or even three).

Really thinking about Tomb Kings or an Araby army (counts as Empire). I'd also like to do Chaos Dwarves, but since I've been doing dwarves for so long, it just might not be different enough to be rewarding. Especially since around here, I'd need to play them counts-as Dwarves.

    Empire.

In a game full of giant lizards, bloodthirsty hard-cases and the living dead, I'll be sticking it out with the good ol' Empire.

There's a Ravening Hordes list for them if you can find the booklet or PDF.

I have an empire army sitting in boxes under the bed, ready for the last 3 years to be made.

My Fantasy-vet friend is going to lend me some Tomb King models when the new edition comes out, and I'll see whether I want to get into this whole Fantasy thang after playing with him and some of his buddies.

I'll simply HAVE to buy lots of skeletons for my friend, in order to fill my insatiable urge to field blocks of 30 skeletons each.

I'll start with WHFB when the new edition is out, so my first thoughts as usual were: "which army looks cool and is playable?"
I like Beastmen, WoC and Lizardmen, but especially the Beastmen seem to lack cool special units. Minos? Boring!
    Centigors? Boring & expensive!
Chariots? Well, everybody has chariots, nothing special here...
WoC are absolutely awesome, but the cool infantry units are very expensive (point-wise) and slow.
So i'm very certain it'll be Lizarmend, because they're versatile, have lots of unique units and DINOSAURS!!!

A mostly Beastmen, Beastmen army. I Have a 50-60 gors and some characters unbasecoated. Should get their army book later today in post and start seeing what to flesh them out with. Probably some ungor raiders, 2 chariots and some spawn to get a basic army. Chaos Giant might be fun to convert into a big beastman.

I'll probably still keep messing with Beasts - I've got a 1500 pointer I really like that is amassing in my closet, with a magictastic 2250 version (assuming that magic is remotely viable in 8th) being tossed about.

Ultimately though my response to 8th edition is going to include:
    - Skaven back to 2250 (currently underway)
    - CSM back to 2000 (stalled with 11 models left)
    - Infinity Nomads
    - Masters Degree

And after all that? Assuming a new ogre book comes out, get the fatties finally done. Otherwise, I have a lot of unpainted WoC that will be up in the air as far as effectiveness goes

I've decided eventually I'll have 3 on the go: Dark Elves, WoC and Empire. WoC were going to be the first, but it meant waiting for the battalion to be delivered so I decided to be impatient and grabbed the Dark Elf box instead!

I'm currently at ~1850 or so O&G. After I get them all painted up and get myself some more fanatics, I'll be starting OK then maybe Bretonnia or Tomb Kings.

My latest idea is a Skaven army where everything is misfiring. It'd be a fun modeling project, but I fear I'd never, ever finish it.
