As the title says, I'm looking for Ogryn proxies. I like the current ones fine, but I just recently got rid of a bunch of my ogryns from 2nd edition. I'd like a more mechanical or even large servitor look that would work well with my Inquisition themed IG army as they don't care for abhumans. I could buy the current ones and convert them, but I refuse to pay $20 per model for a $200 squad. I was thinking something similar to the Grunga 676 from the Inquisitor rulebook. I don't particularly care for the WFB ogres that people convert for the most part either. I think that I'd like a squad of what looks like the old Imperial Robots from Rogue Trader.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to do this in a cost effective manner? Perhaps around $5 per model? Also, I don't mind using non GW miniatures.

Cheapest option that I know of GW wise is some ogre kindgoms models from warhammer fantasy. Have you pick.

How about converting some of the reaper ogres. They go for about $12.00.

i've seen people use/suggest the following non-GW alternatives to ogryns:

AT-43 UNA TacArms , Karmans, or Red Blok Walkers

Incursion Grunt Apes

obviously, as non-GW figs, they're not tourney legal for most events.

I've seen people use Nobz, but it always struck me as a little weak to just paint Orks fleshy colors and call them Ogryns. Ogre Kingdoms models are the best bet, really. I think 6 Bulls is 40 bucks, and you can just convert them up with some spare IG tank bits for armor, and heavy bolters for their ripper guns.

Ogre Kingdom Ogres seem to be the most common way people go about it. Here's a few examples:

Hmm...Warboss got the closest to what I was looking for. I really don't care for the Ogre Kingdoms ogres at all, even the converted ones in Coolmini. I was looking for more clunky robot types that would look similar to the old Imperial Robots from the rogue trader days or even a nice IG looking battlesuit. I do like the ones that Warboss suggested, but still are a little pricy.

If you want a ogrey-thing they yeah, kingdom ogres.

When I was thinking of doing an ogryn-proxy, here are a couple things I got:

- guard battle-suits. Smaller than sentinels, and much more hodgepodge looking than a tau suit. Basically something like out of bioshock or like a mega-armored nob.

- riot troops. An ogryn is basically three guardsmen rolled into one, so why not model them that way? Cram three models on a single base and give them riot shields and shotguns. They're S5 because they are all pumped up full of amphetamines before they charge in.

- robots. Somewhere between battlebots and the terminator. Basically robots with shotguns and wrecking balls that charge into stuff by radio-control.

That or taking ogre kingdom models and really converting them up to my army style.

Heh... I had exactly the same problem

I'm thinking of going the Pig Iron route and picking up some of their War Droids and replacing the (in my view rather horrible) heads.

Ogres with Meganob arms would make good "Combat Servitors."

I use some of those as ogryn's a bit cheaper than the metal ones but looks way cooler than an ogryn in my opinion

Dark Angels 12,000 Points
Nurgle 2,000 Points
Imperial Guard 10,000 Points
Daemon Hunters 2,000 Points
Tau 2,500 points

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Convert Black Reach ork nobz. They can be had cheaply off eBay and are "roughly" ogryn size.

Oh, that's a really good idea. It would be a pain and a half to make them look sufficiently ogre without even a trace of ork, but you really can't beat the price.

Buying individual metal models = fail. Gleaning some scraps from someones AOBR kit = win.

You know, that's not a bad idea, and would certainly be cheaper. I could probably squeeze 3 guardsmen on a 40mm base (poker chip) and make them riot troops. I also really like the battlesuits and that Reaper mini. All great ideas guys. I'm still looking for the cheapest way to go.

AoBR Nobz with Ogre heads works relatively well I think.

I was thinking the same thing about the APE models, they're awesome looking, but still too expensive for my cheap tastes. I just ordered the AT-43 Karmans, they were $23 for a pack of 5 on FRP games the other day. I'll post again when I have them and can compare their size the the current Bone'ead model I own.

Sounds cool. Though if your after cheap ogryns and like converting definitely look for some second hand/ebay ogre kingdoms models. Those cannons they carry can be made into ripper guns easily.
