Implacable Skitarii

Hey guys, Im a first time guard player, and I want to convert up an army of Skitarii in either Hortwerth Mk1 Pattern or Hoff pattern with LOTS of tanks. I have an 1850 list that Id like to use at a table at Games Day(also a first for me this year) and try to win a local tournament or two. C&C welcome
Company Command Squad:
Castellan Creed
Astropath
Medipack
3x Sniper Rifle or 1x Sniper Rifle and 1 Autocannon team(same points)
215pts

Troops:

Veteran Squad
3 Plasmaguns
Grenadiers
Chimera
200pts

Veteran Squad
3 Meltaguns
Grenadiers
Chimera
185pts

Veteran Squad
Grenadiers
3 Plasma Guns
Chimera
200 pts

Veteran Squad
Grenadiers
3 Plasmaguns
LasCannon Weapons Team
165 pts

Fast Attack:

Hellhound Squadron
Hellhound with Multimelta
Hellhound with Multimelta
290 pts

Sentinel Squadron
2 Sentinels with Missile Launchers
85 pts

Heavy Support

Leman Russ Vanquisher
Knight Commander Pask
205pts

Leman Russ Squadron
2 Leman Russ MBT
300pts

Total
1845 points.

My overall strategy is to hold back the Leman Russ squadrons, use them in a mobile bombardment role and use the Vet Squad with the lascannon team to defend them, lend fire support and protect the Command Squad. I would use Castellan Creed's TACTICAL GENIUS to outflank with the Hellhounds and flank the enemy with Str6 Ap3 hot flaming death goo. The Mounted Squads would be versatile support units, lending plasma and Melta where appropriate.

C&C is welcome AND appreciated

I like the theme and overall plan of the army, but I worry that 40 T3 guys is a pretty heavy gamble for any sort of scoring mission, even with the 4+save. Were I playing you (depending on the mission, of course), I would target your fragile troops first and force you to play for a draw.
I am a big fan of outflanking hellhound squadrons, particularly with the multi-melta. You can easily get to your opponents squishy support elements and lay waste. The MM forces your opponent into a quandry if they get a weapon destroyed result against you. Protect my infantry, or my tanks.

No one kills more threads than me. Maybe I leave nothing else to say. Maybe my comments suck so hard people are left stunned. Who can say.

3000pts The Nehalem Fighting 69th. Choking the enemy with the rivers of our dead since 1998.
7000+? The Storm Dragons. Delivering Emprah approved beatings since the days of Rogue Trader.

OK, (welcome to the site) first of all, grenadiers is not an efficient upgrade for veterans in chimeras. But, if you feel it's really necessary for your models/the look of your army, go for it - this kind of IG army is hard enough that you don't really need to be super-efficient, as long as you pick good units.

First of all, I think Creed is a mistake here. Mechanised lists don't get the same benefit from orders infantry do - Creed can give orders from a chimera, but not to any embarked squad, even his own. You're using him to outflank hellhounds - that's cool, but it's not necessary. I don't think it's worth 120 points (creed + astropath). I would drop these upgrades, which would free up nearly enough points for another mechanised squad. I also think sniper rifles are pretty weak for the cost - they're only really efficient against monstrous creatures or very heavy infantry, I think a mobile squad with meltaguns would be more useful. Medic, also not the best use of points - you're spending 30 points, to make a base 50 point unit tougher against some threats. Not worth it IMO.

Actually, just noticed the CCS has no chimera. CCS w/4 meltas and a chimera = 165. Honestly, will be more effective than your current squad.

Troops are good if you let grenadiers slide, HWTs in mechanised squads are a divisive issue. If you do go for them, 2 autocannons spread around might be better than 1 lascannon - better synergy against vehicles.

Fast Attack - hellhounds are nice, obviously if you don't plan on outflanking it's not worth forming a squadron (IMO, it's not worth it even then) Sentinels - ML is commonly regarded as a poor compromise between autocannon and lascannon, math tend to back this up. I would pick one or the other (maybe even with a HK missile, I can see those being useful here)

Heavy Support - LRBTs, good, split the squadron up. Pask in a vanquisher is awful. As a friend of mine found out after painful experience, it's 205 points. You get one shot, even at BS3 that's not great. If it does hit, and does penetrate (again, a good chance but nothing like certain) you get one roll on the damage table, and it's not AP1. That tank is unlikely to ever make its points back. I would swap it for some other variant, or for a medusa w/bastion breachers (same role, more reliable, more versatile).

Hope that helps!

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts

First off, thank you very much for all your help! I just migrated here from trying Warseer, and I'm already really liking the place. A common consensus is to drop grenadiers, and to change out the Pask Vanquisher. So Suppose I make these changes:

Drop Grenadiers from every squad(120 points back)

Change LR Vanquisher to LR Demolisher(no Pask 40 points back)

Split LRBT squadron

Trade Missile launchers for Lascannons on Sentinels (10 pts more)

Add another Veteran Squad in Chimera with 3 Meltaguns(155pts)

Thanks again to everyone for all their help. I just switched over to guard after some 5 years or so of Chaos so I have NO idea what really works
