This one is for the necron and dark eldar players- do you think it is fair that there are so very few options for your armies? I just finished reading the apocalypse book, and necrons have two entries as well as the dark eldar. what do you think?

Because they are old OLD OLD armies that have no love from GW.

Don't worry, the Dark Eldar are next for an update though!

I dunno...as a Dark Eldar player there's only two codexes out there I don't hold in complete contempt. I'm happy with my DE the way they are. Although I'd like certainly like my new 12/10/10 open-topped raiders.

It makes it easy to just jump in and play DE, but I get you on the options bit, Although I am almost more worried about the "Glass Cannon" bit.

At the time, that many units was ok to have for a first time codex. As the years went on and more and more books now get something close to 4-5 options for one slot alone it's getting irksome but the pain is slowly fading with hopes of an update sometime in the next year.

It's a boring, because you find always almost the same lists working.

But hey, you can dare to field unusual units and see what happens. Maybe your opponent doesn't know how to face them ^^

Hard to do many and varied lists when you have no options, agreed. Having a grand total of one troops choice (your pick if foot or mounted) kind of furrows you a certain way. Necrons don't even get the vehicle option.

what about the monolith? I mean its not like they a lot of options but I guess the options are they do have are just far more powerful than I originally thought..

The monolith is good and all, BUT, it's a massive chunk of points that still suffers from Phase out but doesn't help it.

In 99.9% of cases, you might as well just ignore the Monolith, since melta and lance don't affect it, and go for a phase out. For Triple Lith lists, that's easier done than said!

Not sure if it still exists but an interesting take on the DE is the Raider and Jetbike only Army.

Yes. That's how the armies were designed.

JohnHwang might have just won the thread.

Both of the codices in question are old enough that grumping about them is really simply a matter of grumping about a lack of updates.

Also, for both of them a lot of their limitation is less a matter of lack of options (though certain FoC slots do suffer from this) and more a matter of very limited options being any good at all.

And in a more general sense, though I'm sometimes sad at the number of options available to me with my DE, I still have lots of fun trying minor variations in the codex and have been doing so for some time. Probably when (if) the new dex ever does come out I'll be paralyzed from an over-saturation of options to try out.

Don't worry, it's When.

I swear though, if you take any of those Melta-Lances, I will disown you!
