First off, if you want to bypass all the random ADD crap jump ahead to page 6 or so!!

I was looking online for ideas for my nids when I came across this thread on a diff forum ( http://thetyranidhive.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=converting&action=print&thread=22160 ) and it made me take a second look at my bitz box. I decided that I need to make use of some of the things I have leftover. Like any Tyranids player I have a bunch of extra bio weapons, Carnifex bits, and other such fun and I think I need to make somethings from them. Seeing the "crab" pic in the thread above made me think that I could use an idea like that to make my own tyrant guards. I don't know about anyone else but I'm a bit tight on money right now and scratch building some units will use up some of my bits and fill in the ranks of my tyrant guards as well as some other units that pop into my head as I go. Ok enough blabbing and on to the first wip...

Tyrant Guard v.01

As you can see there are a TON of gaps to fill and the entire center of the little fella is hollow. He will have at least one set of scy talons when I'm done and I still don't know what head to use.... I would love some CC and any ideas on how to finish this guy off and maybe where to go afterwards.

-Tony

hmmm a head maybe?

I would GS the openings on the carapace shut and smooth it over, i would also use maybe the biovore arm for some large gorillaesque arms.

Personally I would love to see it with a genestealer head or a gaunt head!

I popped the stupid looking tail pc off and I'm going to try to GS some armor plates on a genestealer head and see how it comes out.

color scheme? and im SO BAD at GS :(

I am absolute junk with GS myself but I am also determined to get better! I have to for the sake of some upcoming projects.

As for a color scheme... I was thinking bone for the bodies and black for the carapace. Only it would have dark blue to lighter blue highlights so that the armor plates end up looking more blueish than just black. Maybe even some grey motteling (sp?)

I am completely lost as to what to name the fleet here... I'm debating one of these lovely synonyms of the word slow in refrence to the pace I am making them at apathetic, crawling, creeping, dawdling, delaying, deliberate, dilatory, disinclined, dreamy, drowsy, easy, gradual, heavy, idle, imperceptible, inactive, indolent, inert, lackadaisical, laggard, lagging, leaden, leisurely, lethargic, listless, loitering, measured, moderate, negligent, passive, phlegmatic, plodding, ponderous, postponing, procrastinating, quiet, reluctant, remiss, slack, sleepy, slothful, slow-moving, sluggish, snaillike, stagnant, supine, tardy, torpid, tortoiselike

Honestly, I hadn't thought of a real theme. I wasn't sure what kind of theme there is with interstellar bugs that kill and eat EVERYTHING in their path.

Ok, at the moment I am working with some GS and I had no idea it was so sticky... Not really sure what I was expecting but either way its sticky. Things look ok so far but I clearly need some better sculpting tools and ALOT more experience! Pics soon!

Like I mentioned before the GS work is my first EVER so please dont judge me too harshly Considering the fact that my only sculpting tool was a broken plastic spoon I'm not going to be too upset. First off are the pics of the back and front of the crab guard where I put the GS to fill the giant holes. I think I'm going to work on some more detailed GS pcs to put onto these spots, like maybe more "craters" like the carapace has to bring a uniform look...

Here are a couple shots of the head. I ended up using a genestealer head and making some additional armor on it and I gave it a slight crest...

Again, my first attempt at GS and I have no tools to work with aside from my prison shank spoon. Also I think a good layer of paint will help too.

I am thinking of trying to make a semi nautical theme.

There are GS tutorials about if you're looking for help.

I'm no expert but I do know that your scuplting tools have to be wet to avoid that sticking issue.

Good start so far!

I learned that the hard way about the water! I loved the tutorial articles though. I poured over those this morning before work. I def plan on practicing more on these and I'll post stuff for you guys (all 2 of you) to comment on. Thanks for the support and CC is always welcome.

I'm not a huge fan of dipping, mostly due to the lack of space in the apartment to do it cleanly. I think I'll just do some heavy washes, but who knows.

My add kicked in today and after reading the thread by Hulksmash located here... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/294553.page

I loved his Screamers so much that I made a few mini versions of my own from a few leftover bits that I got forever ago. I think I may use them as servitors for an inquisitor idea that I had. In addition to the two here I am working on a third with a custom flamer.

Heres a quick look at these little terrors.

Please excuse the toothpicks as I don't have any flying bases

Again, let me know what you think!

Ok heres the deal. A buddy of mine from my FLGS just told me that my participation in the months store vs store game is mandatory and I need 1500 points painted and ready for the end of June aka this month! Currently at ZERO points! All fun projects are on hold! Well aside from a head I'm working on for a friend. Either way 1500 in 2 weeks. Not untra tough but not a quick project either, who do you think I am MegaDave?
