The only item currently advertised as upcoming is a release of Wargs without riders for over half the price of the wargs with riders.

Just sad.

Sorry, I missed the two bases being advertised in hobby supplies. Still pitiful.

To be fair, the wargs do make up the bulk of the model.

But yes, I do miss the days of Sneak Peak. That said, normally managed to see the mini before it made it's bow on Sneak Peak. I remember the laughable black silhouette of the plastic Eldar War Walker that appeared after the photos of a painted up model had been doing the rounds on the internet weeks before hand.

Maybe that's the reason for all the secrecy. GW got angry at us for finding stuff out and mocking them.

It had something to do with killing expectations. Just look at the Mumakil, which was shown off here and there months in advance, was deemed to small and whatever else the forum dwellers could think of, supposedly making it suffer in sales.

Cool, so what do you propose to do about it? I'm all for complaining about GW, but it's starting to get old at this point, especially when we're complaining about the lack of GW news.

Meanwhile, Privateer Press has been releasing images of new stuff at a rather rapid pace over the last couple weeks. But I know, it's difficult to complain about that.

I think the price of the mumakil was what killed its sales expectations.

At least here it was.

There were plenty of pees who would spend that money on stompa or baneblade - none who would spend it on a single LOTR model.

I mean, it's not like showing what you have brewing in advance gives people time to plan out new armies ahead of time, ready to buy when they're still full of hype and unable to realize how stupid their purchase actually is...

I don't pay attention to Lord of the Specialist Games, anymore.

I want more Necromunda stuff. LAst I remember there was a goat load of COnfrontation stuff from back in the day that GW could have revamped and brought back to the table. Along with the Necromunda 8th...

GW does make new items but if you miss their 2-6 week window of advertisement you would have no idea.

They have the most bizzare marketing strategy.

Kill all buzz about a new release.
Don't reveal any info.
Threaten your workers with the sack if they mention any new rules to customers.
Put up prices.

Heh, not where I was standing. We sold dozens of them the first month. Slower now, at about 1 a month. But I have hundreds of boardgames for 40$ to 90$ that sit on the racks and sell 1-3 copies a year. So a 'slow' 60$ kit that sells 12 in a year isn't something I turn my nose up at.

I know we actually sold far more Mumakils than we did stompers or baneblades, which to my mind shouldn't happen with the amount of people who play 40k at my shops vs LOTR.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

$60 - try double that here.

They were selling for around $125 when my wife saw the kit (she likes elephants in all shapes and sizes).

Even she balked at the price (and said she didn't like it that much).

Although there are people here who celebrate this strategy. Weird huh?

It all comes down to usability a bit. You can use a mumakils far more in a LotR game then you ever will with a stompa and baneblade- which can only be used in apoc games.

*shrug* I traded away a stompa I owned for several fantasy units of orcs and a chariot or two. I'll use them far more then I ever would the stompa.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

Deny new products until the end.
Fight enthusiasm.
Never advertise.
Disencourage beginners by ever rising hurdles.

This strategy has proven not to work for years. Sales go down, customer numbers go down. Still, there are no company mechanisms in function that stop or correct obviously failing management and managers.

I admit though, that the new Warhammer Fantasy release might work economically despite an absent marketing.

I joined the hobby when GW was still advertising, so don't blame me
And the creative team is great, not their fault that the management is incompetent.

I can understand why they're being secretive about the models though.

Look at how fast places like Chapterhouse had their "takes" on the Tyranid special characters announced. They were out before the damned book was.

Which goes to show how a small outfit that is able to read trends in a niche market will excel while the blind and lumbering behemoth that is GW continues to miss the mark by ignoring their fanbase...

Uh, not really no.

It just goes to show that a company that leeches off another can go and do whatever the hell they want while the company they're leeching off of has to do things over a far longer schedule.

But it's not like GW's target demographic will be buying chapterhouse anyway, and even those that do tend to buy parts GW has no interest in making anyway.
