So, what really happened to all the primarchs? A few we know, some we assume, for example, Roboutte Guilliman sits in his shrine in his stasis field with these wounds right, who caused them, is he still technically alive etc? Of all the Primarchs who turned traitor, people seem to assume they are all Daemon Princes, that seems a bit weak to me. Forgive me I haven't read the Chaos Codex so am unaware if this sheds any more light.

So... in order...

1st Legion - Dark Angels - Lion El'Jonson

2nd Legion - Lost

3rd Legion - Emperors Children - Fulgrim - Possessed, turned into Daemon Prince

4th Legion - Iron Warriors - Perturabo

5th Legion - White Scars - Jaghatai Khan

6th Legion - Space Wolves - Leman Russ

7th Legion - Imperial Fists - Rogal Dorn

8th Legion - Night Lords - Konrad Curze/ Night Haunter - Allowed himself to be killed by a Calidus Assassin

9th Legion - Blood Angels - Sanguinus - Killed by Horus

10th Legion - Iron Hands - Ferrus Manus - Killed by Fulgrim/ Daemon Fulgrim becomes

11th Legion - Lost

12th Legion - World Eaters - Angron

13th Legion - Ultramarines - Rouboutte Guilliman

14th Legion - Death Guard - Mortarian

15th Legion - Thousand Sons - Magnus - Killed by Russ to save his legion, spirit resides in Eye of Terror

16th Legion - Luna Wolves - Horus - Killed by Emperor on his battlebarge in battle for Terra

17th Legion - Word Bearers - Lorgar

18th Legion - Salamanders - Vulkan

19th Legion - Raven Guard - Corax

20th Legion - Alpha Legion - Alpharius (Twins)

Feel free to fill in any blanks!!!

Guilliman cot a poisoned wound from Fulgrim, and is in stasis right now - and supposedly is slowly getting better (as compared to the Emperor who is also in a form of stasis who is slowly dieing off more and more...)

Magnus wasn't killed, he escaped into the warp after Russ broke his back.

Russ went into the Eye of Terror and was never seen again.

Perturabo, Mortarion, Magnus, Angron and Lorgar are all Daemon Princes sitting on their Daemon Worlds doing god knows what.

Alpharius or Omegon was killed by Guilleman but the other Twin lives.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Primarch#Fate_of_the_Primarchs
Fate of the Primarchs
Traitors

* Warmaster Horus was killed by the Emperor of Mankind, and his soul was obliterated. His corpse was completely destroyed by Abaddon the Despoiler, who also took over his place as overall leader of the Chaos Space Marines.
* Magnus the Red rose to the rank of Daemon Prince of Tzeentch.
* Angron rose to the rank of of Daemon prince of Khorne.
* Mortarion rose the rank of Daemon Prince of Nurgle.
* Fulgrim rose to the rank of Daemon Prince of Slaanesh.
* Lorgar rose to the rank of Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided.
* Perturabo rose to the rank of Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided.
* Konrad Curze, aka Night Haunter, was assassinated by Callidus assassin M'Shen. He allowed her infiltration, apparently wanting to die.
* Alpharius was killed by Roboute Guilliman, but the source which reported his death may have been manipulated. It is not known if Alpharius or Omegon is the primarch killed in the report. Due to the report's unreliability, neither may have been killed.8.

Loyalists

* Ferrus Manus was killed at the Drop Site massacre at the start of the Horus Heresy by Fulgrim who presented his head to Horus.
* Sanguinius was slain by Horus after refusing to join him.
* Lion El'Jonson returned to his homeworld of Caliban only to discover that his friend and second-in command Luther and the Dark Angel garrison had turned against him2. He led a strike force of his own loyal Dark Angels against the traitors. He disappeared amongst the inferno as the world was blasted apart by a Warp Storm and a bombardment from his ships in orbit. He sleeps deep within the Rock, the biggest piece of Caliban and current home base of the Dark Angels1,2. Only the Emperor and the Watchers in the Dark know of this secret.1-p14
* Jaghatai Khan disappeared while pursuing Dark Eldar into a webway portal after they had managed to raid Mundus Planus. There are rumors that he fights there still, lost in the twisting paths of the Webway. After nine thousand years it seems highly unlikely, but not impossible.
* Leman Russ disappeared in the Eye of Terror. The Space Wolves hold a legend that says Russ went on a quest to find a means to cure the Emperor. His final words before his disappearance is that he would return for the Wolftime (the final battle). It is also said that Leman Russ led the 13th Company into the Eye of Terror and ordered them to hunt down the Traitor Legions which had fled to the Eye of Terror, particularly the Thousand Sons.
* Rogal Dorn boarded a Chaos cruiser during a Black Crusade alongside a company of his sons and died fighting. He died after many of his loyal brother Primarchs. Today, his hand is housed in the holiest shrine of the Imperial Fists chapter, and his dead body encased in amber and put in Phalanx 11.
* Roboute Guilliman was struck down with an envenomed blade by his former brother Fulgrim. His body is perfectly preserved in a stasis field at the heart of the Temple of Correction3. It is rumoured that he is still alive and that his wound is slowly healing, something normally impossible in a stasis field. The truth of this rumour is unknown but this is seen by many (including the Ultramarine captain Uriel Ventris) as mere optimistic thinking.
* Vulkan disappeared. The position of Chapter Master, filled by the Captain of the First Company, is considered to be a regency as the Salamanders believe that Vulkan will one day return and lead them on a great crusade against Chaos.
* Corax was racked by guilt and shame. In order to rebuild quickly the strength of his legion from the dropsite massacre on Isstvan V, Corax accelerated the growth of the gene-seed organs, producing more Space Marines, but this process also deteriorated the Gene-seed, causing many to become hulking monsters. Riddled with guilt over what he had done, Corax administered euthanasia to all of them and then locked himself away within his sanctum, the Raven's Tower. Exactly one year later he left his tower, haggard and gaunt, and took a small shuttle craft with the words Never more. It was last monitored setting a course for the Eye of Terror.

I'd say they won't make Primarchs playable, as some, Magnus for examplle, could take down Titans, and oodles of the most powerful Space Marines single handedly. They're simply too powerful, and best left unattainable.

Agreed. Though I'd love it if Ferrus Manus had survived. He was my favorite Primarch .

Lies. Khan is still alive. Someday he will return and the white scars will be able to take on the whole ork species.
Then we turn our focus on the traiterous ultramarines.
Also vulkan will return when all artifacts return.

I'm pretty sure Curze is just a Grimdark Batman.

Your probably right Gwar.

The way both characters seemed to welcome their assains, seeing their deaths as proof of the truth of their convictions, along with "The Horror" both men had witnessed and participated in,may have been a bit beyond what GW would have thought of.

Yes. You'll note Kurtz was killed by Martin Sheen and the assassin who killed Curze was M'shen.

GW throw stuff like this in all the time.

Corax disappeared, interestingly the latest Imperial Armour book puts forward the idea that he might have secretly locked himself away in stasis, only to return when the Emperor has forgiven him for his failure to stop Horus' treachery.

Nevermore indeed eh ?!

This of course tallies with many of the Primarch myths ; the idea that they will return at some point in the future when all hope is lost/similar. It's a fairly common theme in mythology look at Arthurian legend and the like.

Except in the case of Russ, he actually means to keep his word.

10k years kicking ass in the EoT while permanently blattered, naked and blue balled (don't forget, his armour was found in a Slaanesh temple ) make you damn sure to keep your word if it's the last thing that happens!

..well the 13th company members who came back from the EoT have been quiet on the subject eh...

One of the more interesting theories I read.. literally years ago.. about Russ was that he had gone to try to return or restore or rescue The Lion's soul from the EoT. The "vision" he saw at his last feast being a message or a vision of/from The Lion.

It makes more sense than Russ simply buggering off for a scrap, him and The Lion having reconciled their differences by now of course and both of them somewhat distraught at their respective failures during the HH. Russ would keep the near disgrace of the Dark Angels secret, especially if he felt that he could rescue The Lion and restore him and his Legion to the Emperor's good graces.

Hmm... I would say the HH books have pretty much cleared that one up really.
The Lion's loyalty is very clear cut. He has his own ambition and schemes of course but, well, everyone in a position of that power and authority would/does of course.

It's easy to say that the missing Primarchs are just dead, but I really hope it's not the case. If 40k ever actually ends I think it should be with the missing Primarchs returning, to be joined by the healed Guilliman and a resurrected Emperor, only to have to hold the line against a full scale Chaos invasion headed by all the Daemon Prince Primarchs (and perhaps the Chaos Gods themselves), the full-scale rise of the Necrons, massive Waaghs and Hive Fleets, and the ascendant Ynnead, Eldar God of the Dead. This universe deserves to go out with the biggest bang imaginable.

I just don't know how the Tau could get in on the uberness.
