Why give a chaos lord / daemon prince MoCU though? It's pointless.
Pointless? When a non-Fearless Chaos Lord w/o the MoCU wiffs its attacks against a squad of Guardsmen, then fails its LD test and is run down by said Guardsmen, I doubt you'll consider the re-roll pointless...

The reroll is super annoying. One of my biggest nightmares in third was a buddy who played undivided. after two years of constantly playing him, he had to reroll his morale all of 6 times, and only broke once.

In 2 years... *grumble*.

Yeah....MoCU is stupid alright....for your opponent.

Yeah, I've failed enough morale checks with my necrons to tell you that Ld-10 is definately not a sure thing.

I guess its a necron curse. My friend thinks his army is useless since he always failed his saves. He also though he could stand tall against berserkers... haha.

You have LD10 on everything in your army.  I'm so sorry.  You have my most sincere condolences.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

I know, it totally sucks. Most people playing this game have LD-10 and They Shall Know Know Fear on everything in their army, or everything is fearless, but we poor Necron players get screwed. Screwed!

Sorry guys, I still don't see the rules where it says I cant take Speed with Glaive. And yes, I do have the 3rd edition book.

Glaive just says that the bearer CANNOT join any unit, be accompanied with followers or ride a steed. (pg 48) (take note that is steed..NOT speed)

And about the blood rage, it automactically grips the bearer without rolling the dice. And under blood rage description, it says it doesnt affect vehicles, dreadnaughts, bikes or models using Daemonic Flight. (again, nothing about Speed!) pg 47

So which means I can still equip my lord with Glaive and Speed. Getting rage all the time (max move 12). And assault 12 (due to speed).

Please clarify with me coz even though you guys are telling me that it cant be taken together, you guys are not showing me the proper rules to check it. Thanks.

Page 48 Chaos codex Berzerker glaive. Second to last sentence "The bearer must always sweeping advance when victorious in close combat (unless wearing terminator armor) and CANNOT USE ANY SPECIAL MOVEMENT MODES. (capitols by me)

Demonic speed is a special movement mode.

BTW, were you a local on the GW forums?

Heh. I totally nerf nearly every role for leadership with my 'crons.

They may as well be leadership 2 for all it really matters.

Now that "cannot use any special movement modes" is definitely not in my codex.
Furthermore, the FAQ only says ignore the reference to Sweeping Advance under Berserker Glaive. My army builder doesn't show me anything on this too! This sux coz i just bought the book here in my local game shop few months ago.  :S

Which version of codex are you guys refering?

What else have changed? Gosh...

Yea, i was in the GW forums.. but because of work, lost touch with it. Then when I went to check it out again, is not there anymore! What the hack happened?

I'm so lost. Must be because I have just came back from the Eye of Terror.

Then you don't have the 3rd printing book. Have a look in the front couple of pages, it should say what printing it is.

The first printing doesn't say anything. Like World War I wasn't called that until after World War II because there was no reason to.

If your copy is the third printing, then the title page will say "third printing" about 7/8ths of the way to the bottom just above the locations of GW. If it says nothing, then it's a first printing.

But really the best way to know for sure is that the third printing codex says that a glaive prince can't use special movement modes, while the first printing doesn't have that line. There are other rules differences--there's a Dakka thread you can search for or lists on other sites that detail the changes.

Just to double up on why you cant use the glaive- it forces you to bloodrage, right? Well you cant blood rage with daemonic speed. So, there should be some obvious logic right there. A lack of critical thinking skills is what forced the CANNOT USE ANY SPECIAL MOVEMENT MODES portion.

Holy cow! You guys are right! My codex is the 2nd printing. I've been cheated! :S

Anyway, there is a question I need to ask about daemon prince.
It says if a Chaos Lord is equiped with more than 50 points of daemonic gifts, he is a Daemon Prince and should be modeled appropriately.

My question is, if the Chaos Lord is a daemon prince this way (WITHOUT daemonic stature), does he count as Mounstrous Creature?
And can he joins a normal unit of berserkers?

THanks.

If you give a lord enough stuff for him to count as a daemon prince, but don't give him stature, he's the same size as normal and can still join up units and everything as normal. He's not a monstrous creature. The main difference is that he counts as a daemon for things that effect daemons differently, like Daemonhunter special gear.

I thought so too. But is good to hear from you guys to double confirm.

By the way, talking about config for a daemon prince, what config is the best against Tyranids heavy genestealer army?

My last battle against the nids, my daemon prince basically got whooped due to the genestealers numerous rending attacks.

Please advice. Thanks.

Versus genestealer heavy Tyranids, I would play a Slaanesh marked lord with lightning claws and combat drugs and demon strength and mutation and demon speed. This way you can up his Init to 6 and reduce the stealers Init to 5 so you can go first and clear out the kill zone so you will not be struck back.

BTW, spiky bits, demon aura, demon essence and frag grenades are good add-ons.

Quoted for truth.   A few nasty rends can ruin your day.

You are absolutely right that a few rends can ruin your day. However, the question was "what is the best configuration for a DP to fight a genestealer heavy Tyranid list?"

My choice can look like this :7 attacks on the charge, WS:6 with one reroll, Str:6 with re-roll(s) on the wound with a power weapon. This can theoretically yield you 5-6 kills and probably a cleared kill zone. That means NO rends coming back at you.

Obviously, nothing is guarranteed, but I challenge you to find a better DP for this situation.

I was agreeing with you. Im just scarred from all the rending hits I sat through to learn you dont run at genestealers with an undivided DP.

Even with Khorne DP, my In is only 5. And even if I get to charge them, my In is 6 (furious charge).. same as the genestealers. They can easily kill my DP with all their rendings. And that is the fact.

Come to think of it, is very hard for Khorne Chaos to fight against Tyranids. Both excels in close combat but higher probablities that the Nids will woop Khorne Chaos' ass... Sigh...

Khorne's answer to 'stealer hordes is Rhinos with Destroyer. I call it my "bug lawnmower".

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

Yeah, I guess all those 4+ invulnerable saves are pretty crappy.

@trooper, I am assuming you are referring to the Khornate glaive-princes 4+ invul save.

The key to beating bugs with Khorne is to use your berzerkers against his genestealers and make sure you charge him.

For simple DP thats very low on points:

Chaos Lord

Speed

aura

stature

venom

resilience

Total: 120

This guy can move fast, stay alive, wound anything on a 4+ or better, and ignore armore saves in CC. Talk about bang for your buck.

For a maxed out bazillion point DP:

Chaos Lord

Stature

Mark of Khorne

Bezerker Glaive

close combat weapon

D. Armor

D. Strength

D. Speed

Feel no Pain

Collar of Khorne

Total: Doesn't matter, its over the limits anyways!

Now, If you were playing some campaign where at the end, imperials had to slay like the ultimate DP or something, this could be an idea...

Daemonic Talons: 10 points
Daemonic Mutation: 15 points
Daemonic Spawn: 20 points

Seeing your face after your 200 point Chaos lord was blown to pieces by a IG lascannon: Priceless
