Thousand Sons are viable.. I've seen an army of them wipe the floor with everyone it plays against. You just have to have a pact with the devil!

Someone has to be last in the line-up. Most codexes need some work, even those produced for 4th ed thus far. GW rules will never be perfect. I play orks and pride myself withing building my army out of the old (oop) metal orks. (they are a lot more fun than the current plastics.) But thats a personnel taste issue.

I have said it before, I'll say it again, NEED has nothing to do with GW release schedules (nor does logic.) Nor does the release order from the prior edition. They actually make an effort to mix things up a bit, that way the same armies won't always be recieving their books right before the new edition comes out.

I play orks and would love to see a new dex, however if getting one soon means getting the dex and models my Tau got, (pimp my etherial anyone?) I can wait.

Oh sure, bring up WHFB!!

I don't have much experience with the dwarf book, but I do remember some ambiguities in the O&G and Empire books. Nothing even close to as bad to what shows up in the 40k books repeatedly.

Anything can win with the correct application of mounds of luck....

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Toreador, its nice that you have an alternate opinion. Yay for you. Yay for everyone who wants to be a non-comformist. Or a conformist. Or a non-conformist conformist. Or a conforming non-conformist. Or a metrosexual.

You are all emo.

First of all, has anybody actually CONFIRMED these chaos rumors yet? While I would love to see a new chaos dex, it doesn't seem right that Orks get shafted again. One of the premier races of the 40k universe.

Of course, they also may be the next race to die a slow, horrible, shameful death, and GW will deny their existance. (Squats anyone?) It has been said a few times that GW wants to make 40k distinct from fantasy, and not just Warhammer IN SPACE!!!

To reiterate, does anyone actually know if the Chaos dex is confirmed?

And second, lay off the negativity just because somebody disagrees with you. And toreador, if you can stop prancing about being a GW sockpuppet mouthpiece, and be a tad more objective with less fanboyism in your posts, maybe people will take you more seriously.

Call me a prancing GW fanboy if you want (and I expect one of you will), but I'm not completely sold on the idea that GW is fully incompetant. I've gotten smacked down for this view on some other threads, but here's my take on things: GW is a poorly run company that made the same mistake nearly every company does: assumes the good times will never end. As sales boomed for 10+ years, they let some quality slip, lost focus, etc. I hope, but doubt, that they've learned the lesson and have returned to the core of what made them great in the past. I remember hearing wild rumors of bitter internal politics, and we all know that the rules only exist to sell minis, so no codex gets released except to flog kits, new and old.

So, to veer this post back to topic, here's the Polonius 0% insider information theory of what has happened to the Ork codex. At least a few or possibly all of the following happened:
1) Lets give everybody a new codex before we redo any 3rd edition ones!
2) wait, the chaos book sucks, and it's the #2 or #3 army.... redo that first!
3) Hey, I have a cool idea! Let's do inquisition army books! Two of them!
4) Man, craftworld lists are broken, we should get rid of sublists. We should do a "build your own chapter, but let's test it on an army nobody cares about first (hello 2nd IG book)
5) Dude, 4th edition is coming out. We should lead with our strong armies (SM, Nids, Eldar)
6) Uh guys, you forgot to put rules for Black Templars in the new SM codex....
7) Hey, those Tau sell pretty well. They're our most successful new army since... uh... the 80's?
8) Does anybody have any ideas for an ork codex? Anybody? Bueller?

And so the poor greenskins get shuffled behind armies that frankly, are easier. Black Templars were two sprues, and a bunch of stuff they really wanted to release for SM anyway. The Tau were easy and a gauranteed success. Eldar and Nids have huge fan bases. Orks, much like the wood elves that somebody mentioned earlier, are going to take some actual thought.

Is there any justification for not having a new Ork 'dex four years ago? No. But, I'm guessing it was a confluence of events.

No, I think skipping is close enough to prancing to not really be worth distinguishing. My mode of GW inspired interpretive dance is graceful and ordered, like a waltz.

Just me, but when I see Brimstone post this as confirmed (Or in his subtle way) then I'll have little doubt.  Until then, who really knows...but as I stated before this guy has been accurate before on scoops.

I would add this.  Brimstone specifically answered the 'multiple chaos dex or one?' thread when speaking to IWs.  This kid was talking how happy he would be if they kept IWs the same way...and Brimstone replied:

I'd start rethinking it if I was you.

You may want to consider Thousand Sons/Tzeentch.

Brimstone is pretty damn solid (Hell I'm pretty sure he works at the London GW?).  So, as I stated until he comes forward and confirms who knows...but if he knew Dex details like that a bit ago...I don't think it's too far of a stretch.

As far as Orks go....I always wanted them to be brute serious pirate types......and then I saw these conversions.  That damn SM camo makes me giggle like Marlon Brando at a buffet everytime I see it.

I'm sure the orks will get done when they're done...whether anyone's left playing to turn out the light at that point, or anyone will WANT to play them is anyone's guess.

Like Jester, I haven't even bothered with GW since last summer, and I don't reckon I will until the re-release of Rogue Trader. In the meantime, I will continue to do the best thing for GW...play Warmachine

Agreed. Yair is awesome like a dump truck made out of candy, but in his case he's like a dump truck made out of Werthers Originals driven by Evel Kneivel, with Angie Dickinson painting her toenails in the buff in the passenger seat.

Syr, thank you for bringing up a nightmarish error message that haunts me in my dreams.  Work and Dakka don't mix!!

I think we should start a pool on which 'dex gets released when.  Buy-in is ten bucks.

My money is on Space Marines.

I heard that after Chaos,  is Space Marines, followed by Tau, then Space Marines, then Blood Angels, after that is Necrons, then Space Marines, followed by Eldar, Space Marines, Black Templars, then Space Marines, then Space Wolves, then Space Marines, then Dark Eldar, Space Marines, a race yet to be conceived, Space Marines, Tyranids, Space Marines, Chaos, Space Marines, Necrons, Space Marines, a race yet to be conceived, Space Marines, and finally, at long last, finally giving in to the cries of their fans...............Squats.

What bugs me is one of their oldest armies is cast aside in all this Space Marine love-fest.  When are the Sisters getting something!?

I heard a rumor that GW is thinking of doing a "barbarian horde" army that are so-so in combat, but terrible in shooting.  They will have ramshackle vehicles and weapons.  Weirdest of all, they are supposed to be mushrooms.  Green mushrooms.

"In the beginning there was darkness... or was there light.. no, there was darkness. Anyway, then Man came on the scene and verily did he create a great spacefaring empire and unto him... you know I'm almost positive there was darkness in the beginning."

Since when are Sisters "one of their oldest armies?"  Anyway, wasn't the Witch Hunters codex the last to be released before 4th edition?  Two and a half years ago?

Toreador, if you don't think the orks need a redo, consider the following facts.
Gaps in the Range:
No Skarboyz, no flash gitz, no plastic grotz, no lootas, no looted vehichle kit, no battlewagon, no Nazdreg, no Snikrot, no Zagstrukk, no Wazzdakka, no painboy, no painboss, no cyborks, no squighound, no ammo runt, no grot orderlies, no banna wava.
14 gaps. (And I have a nagging suspicion I missed one) Count ferals, and we have: No trappas/huntas, no wierdboys, no cyboars, no squiggoth, no madboyz, no pigdok. (probably missed a few there)
6 more gaps.
Speed freaks? No nobs warbikes, no outriders, no guntrukks, no death koptas.
24 gaps total.
Add in the fact that the vehichles generally only have big shootas or mega blastas as options, and we're into ludicrous territory.
Models that need a re-do: Wartrukks, wartraks, warbikes. Everything else is okay by me really, I think they are quite good quality.
And that's just the models side of things, I haven't gone near the rules.
And sure, you can tell me that Orks should love converting. Well, they shouldn't be forced to. A kid should be able to pick them up and play. There's no reason to assign someone to a freaking Iron Hands squad sculpt when one of your flagship races has 24 gaps in it's range.
It's just customer service at this stage- I've invested 300 quid in my orks at this stage, thinking they would get a similar amount of support to other races. This is not the case, not at all.
Lets run through. Chaos? 3 remakes, and Lost and the Damned. Marines? Numerous sub codices, 1 remake. Tau? Creation and 1 remake, nids? 2 remakes.

They'll be out when they'll be out doesn't cut the mustard. They should have been out a long time ago. This level of neglect is inexcusable.
However, if Dark Eldar were to be re-done before Orks I'd be happy enough. I'm not going to accuse you of fanboyism, but maybe you're, in this case, just plain wrong?
(Side note: Newer fantasy stuff has been fantastic. That system is proof enough to me that GW is not full of idiots.)

Well at least Dice Monkey is spewing creative drivel.

I am not saying Orks don't need to be redone. I never once said that.

I do play orks, and have had to cobble together all kinds of things. There were all kinds of problems from the beginning with the line, and that never stopped.

What I have said is that whining about rumoured releases is kind of silly.

Just throwing more resources at something won't always make it come out faster. Everything has to come together, and more cooks doesn't necessarily make the meal quicker. Like Eldar they have been probably slated a certain number of plastic kits to be done, along with metal minis. It would make sense that they would redo a lot of the line, and or add parts to make a lot of the basics in those sets. Throw in rules changes and you have something that could take time.

Now compare it to Chaos. It needs a rules revamp, and probably not a major one. They have also had new models in the pipeline for awhile, and since everything isn't ready for orks yet, they decide to go ahead and release it. Kind of like how the Tau were "revamped" quickly.

Complain all you want. But getting in a huff about rumours is well,... very internet.

Fanboi out.
