That said, I don't think we'll see it before some of the other armies get a redo (Imperial Guard, for example).

Why would you want IG redone? There's one or two annoying things in there (Ogryn are useless, my Griffon isn't in there), but by-and-large it's a very solid codex, for representing most aspects of what the Guard does.

Whoa, slow down there, mister!  I'm just saying that it probably WILL get a re-do; I'm not saying I want one.

I would LOVE to see Griffons and Russ Exterminators again, though.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

On the subject of game balance...

?
How is an army specialised at killing other forces, and then crap against everything else, balanced?
Codswollop!

Lol!
Get used to it!
Its been part of 40K since there has been 40K. Every army has a disadvantage and advantage over other armies. if everything was as balanced as many cry about, we would be playing warzone with slightly differing states but otherwise everything would be the same.

*Palms forehead*

Obviously armies have strengths and weaknesses, but building codices around specialist forces like that is really, really dumb. You want ork hunters? Take crap loads of heavy bolters and land speeders. No need for an entire codex to be devoted to the damn idea.

I'm probably never really going to win this argument, so I'll stop here and now. Suffice to say, I would be disgusted with that armies existance.

Potentially a Xenos ordos codex would be good for non human races. All simply due to adversaries rules. As HBMC previously mentioned, genestealer cults are one type, but give each race something that makes it tough for the ordos xenos to get the job done, and it could be an outstanding codex.

Then again, GW doing it right is another story....

(tell me how a few scraps of metal give them that armour save)

Sorry.  I found this funny.  So, tell me, how does red paint make something go faster.   (this rule is one of my favorites for the Orks)

Not to get to technical, but Ork technology works because Orks think it will work. There's the fluff in the Ork 'Dex about a Xenos Inquisitor (or Magos Biologis guy... not sure) who is awestruck by the Orky shoota that doesn't work when you pull the trigger - there's no physical way the weapon can work - yet in the hands of an Ork it works because he expects it to work.

Something to do with the Orks inherent psychic abilities. Legacy of the Old Ones and all that.

Why exactly do you have a problem with a fungus based life form? I've always liked orks because ecologically speaking, they work. Yes, they do require the Deus Ex Machina Old Ones to create them, but so do all the other races. I've seen the "Spase Mushrooms, HURR!" response tons of times, and I don't get why it's so ridiculous seeming. The "weapons only work because they think they do" is utterly slowed. I hate all background of that nature. It all sucks. Of course, we get super powers because we really, REALLY love the Emperor makes as much sense. Sisters make bugger all sense- didn't you need a specially implanted organ to interface with power armour? Why the hell/how the hell does the church have access to power armour? Why aren't there power armoured units in the Imperial gaurd, if the Church can have them?
How in the name of all that's holy is the 40K universe Gothic anyway? It's pulp dark sci fi, not gothic horror! Yeah, there is a lot of gothic architecture and skulls, but they have very little to do with gothic horror as a genre (gothic isn't a genre at all).
Nuns with guns are silly.

That is the single worst fluff decision GW ever made.  It used to be one of the great mysteries of 40K how Orks reproduced and Gav decided to take his 9th grade creative writeing skills and write up a steaming pile of crap in the main Gorka Morka book.  I am not even going to get into the "magic guns" thing outside of saying the original fluff had a much better explaination.

Only now do I realize how much I prefer Pete Haines' "misprints" to Gav Thorpe's "brainfarts." :Abadabadoobaddon

the way i see a codex XENOS (not just orks boss =-]) would be different types of rounds for different xenos. its not the imperiums fault that they are soooo uber large that they can devote whole systems to fight one alien type. why would marines (HURR!) with orks on their doorstep train to fight tau? thats the way i see it at least.

i would picture xenos having stuff like preferred enemy, and maybe a few wargear selections that would be good for certain races. possibly an elite unit similar to the ultras TWVs, and the usual =][= stuff. thats all.
