So if you baught say a terminator and cast a conversion kit so he looked like abbaddon and sold the kit with the terminator on ebay for say 1.00 more than the plastic termniator it would be ok because he baught the terminator. The fact that he is undercutting gw for esentially the same model is surely gonna piss off gw. he is still selling models of the emperor for like 150.00 money that might have been spent at gw. And the emperor is propety of gw.

Scibor doesnt cast the models, he makes a mold of the parts (like a shield) and then applies it to the model. He is simply reselling the GW model as a one off convsersion, and you are paying for his artisitic ability.

Yes but esentially he is casting one of his own models he sculpted himself. The terminator would be a gw mini. Just because his models are made with a gw miniature doesnt mean he isnt doing anything wrong. He could quite easily sclupt the whole mini.

Yes but esentially he is casting one of his own models he sculpted himself In the likeness of GW's IP. Then he is selling them as such without GW's consent. Primarchs, Mortarion, the Emperor, Horus, Sanguinus... are all GW's IP regardless if they have models for them or not. Ronin miniatures is sculpting models, saying they are these IP protected items and selling them as such. Seriously, defending this obvious breach of IP is really a waste of time. Why else would this Ronin go so far to protect himself when he sells them? Because he knows what he is doing is wrong and will get him into a lot of trouble when he gets caught. Just because his models are made with a gw miniature doesnt mean he isnt doing anything wrong That's where you'd be wrong (assuming you are talking about Scibor again). "Fair use" laws will allow for this or else no one would ever be able to resell anything they've purchased. Now if he is recasting a new model based off of a model he converted, then yes THAT would be a violation of IP.

The sculpts are crap-ish. Even if individual parts are nice, the complete minis look strange. Proportions are off and their poses awkward. Sculptor needs to study human anatomy more.

I've seen a couple of these models on sale at my local hobby store. They sell on consignment so they were probably left there by someone. But if you live in Massachusetts you could just drive to Danger Planet in Waltham and purchase these guys. I'll try to find out if there is someone local (to me) that has these models.

Well, after calling my local store - I can assure you that there is a local guy in Massachusetts that has the models. If you want the information for someone in the US that has these models please send me a PM and I will give you the information. Or you can just go to Danger Planet in Waltham MA and pick one up.

Isnt this the same russian dude that made that horrible autarch on a jetbike conversion? (read: took GW stuff, made a conversion, cast that conversion in multiple duplicates) I do recall a russian website touting the production of said models, IIRC. If this is true, it may be one reason why GW is or would have such a hard time following up to protect their IP. To quote Turkish: "Sneaky ^&%$ing Russians...."

Posted By migsula on 07/12/2007 4:50 AM Business seems to be going well! I like the scale and volumes of these, but the overall scultping could be sharper.
That was my issue. I have the Emperor and Sangi, both are beautiful minis. Mangus and Mort are both too poor looking for my to justify the price. I love Horus though, and am sad I missed him.

The only real GW IP problem is trademarks not copyrights.
That is none of these seem to be copies of GW artwork or models (if they are that does raise copyright issues).
The only problem is that Large Ornately Armored Guy is being sold as 'the Space Emporer' or another trademarked GW name. The same as if I made some original armored guys and called them 'Space Marines'.
There are work-arounds. They could be sold as Large Ornately Armored Dude with a description saying he is suitable as a 40k Primarch, a Warmachine Legend, a D&D Epic level character etc.
But passing them off as representations of someone else's character, whether it's Mortarion, Darth Varder or Mickey Mouse is an IPR no-no.
I really think the models are good enough they don't need to parasidically use someone else's name.
