I'm tempted to make a Terminus from my bits box for Golden Demon (after building a few Ork battlewagons from land raiders, I have plenty of spare lascannons), if only to prove that a less dorky lascannon mount is possible. Some sort of Hurricane equivalent (with 2 twin-linked lascannons) sounds the simplest option. But definitely magnetised sponsons, so I can change it back to a 'normal' LR

Chapter Council... Apart from the fact they look like clones of each other (can anyone say "greenstuff for hair" or "head swap" ?) these actually look like nice models... Terminus Land Raider... what a disappointment. When I heard GW was releasing a new Raider variant, I was hoping for a model as striking as a Prometheus or one of the other FW variants. The simple facts that: A) the main guns can't aim properly and look unwieldy B) it looks like a refugee from a 12 year old's attempts at a VDR vehicle will rule this one out for me, and, I suspect, quite a lot of other people as well. Just to completely contradict my earlier post, ruleswise, there is no LOS issue... Sponson weapons have a specific fire arc shown in the rulebook. Whether or not the actual model is capable of moving the weapons through that same arc is irrelevant... they'll still have the same fire arc as any other sponson. Which doesn't excuse the poor modelling. If GW can't be bothered to make their models match their rules, how do they expect anyone to take them seriously...?

Why didn't they just get a large Vanquisher style laser cannon and mount it in an oversized predator turret for the Land Raider Terminus? Make it a titan hunter type variant. That would at least have made sense.

The terminus does look a bit weird, but you can fix that, maybe make a spacer for the back twin linked las cannon's so they are about an inch away from the hull. or place a second twin las cannon turret where the hunter killer missle is. although that might look werid too.
You could try and mount the single las' on the twin linked las cannons on the side mounts for a three barrel....thing. I dont know, i bet you can work with it though.
At any rate, 5 las cannon shots a turn from a land raider in cover is pretty nice.
The chapter council look fantastic. Just greenstuff some hair on a few of them and they will look great.
I was talking to a friend that has the apocolypse book and some of what he was telling me just sounds awesome. Flyers are in, andThunderhawks use the huge new pieplate for their main cannon, the baneblade uses a bigger template now than the old one. Flyers will use rules similar to Epic, they dont leave the table, and all models firing on them subtract 12" from their range and only hit on 6's. They flyer has to move a minimum distance too. It sounds like a lot of big stuff is being increased in killiness from the original forgeworld models.
I got to see the new apocolypse templates first hand, they are stupid big. the diameter of the big flamer at the end is a pie plate, and it is crazy long. It will also be used for flyers that drop napalm style bombs and for straffing runs. All you need to play normal 40K is that big flamer, it has all other templates within it. The new pie plate (pizza pan?) is enormous, 10" in diameter, its bigger than your head. The four leaf clover template is 5 pie plates. When you fire a barage with that thing, you roll a die for each shot of the barrage and the result means that shot lands in one of the 5 templates. Also, when you fire it all shots land at once, meaning if you were to fire a 4 shot barrage and all four shots were to land on one of the five sections of the template, any models underneath would take 4 wounds instead of determining results individually as you do in normal 40K. Also, the templates overlap each other, so it is possible for a model to be under two, and really gett pulverized.
It sounds like these barrages dont scatter either, although dont quote me on that, it is my guess. But what i can say is that three bassies sound like they will murder things.
The book is as big as the BGB, and is meant to come with a ton of full color pages, converted models and tons of fluff. They have pictures of a lot of the new orc stuff in the book too, from what i have been told, including the bikes which really do look like choppers or harlies as i have been told.
My buddy told me that there are two things you need to understand when playing apocolypse: 1.) dont expect much to survive the game 2.) dont expect the games to last all day. he said it moves pretty quick and is a ton of fun. Also, the recomended table sizes are given for each points level. I think they use the normal table up to 4K, and then it gets bigger after that. My buddy said they expect people to use super heavies which are worth a lot of points but dont use up too much table space.
Also, there are meant to be a lot of scpecial rules if you use certain formations. For instance, if you use a complete space marine company, 10 leman russ tanks, etc. they will have special bonuses.
The table will use diagnal deployment zones. You basically draw a line from one cornor to the far cornor and then you can set up models anywhere within 6" of that line. So yes, you could start 12" apart if you so chose. There are three objectives in the games, one in no mans land, and one in each deployment zone. So defense of your own objective is as important as taking the contested ones. I am assuming there are more missions than that, but that is the only that i was told about. It all sounds very fun.
I have been told that the book will be available at the LA games day with the uber nerd back pack (which has patches available for each army) and the templates all for $100. I am going to LA games day, so if it really is for sale there and i can get my hands on it ill scan some pics for everyone.
And one last little tid bit that i can remember from the conversation: three vindicators in formation can all fire at the same target and it becomes a 10" diameter strength D attack!!!! Holy crap!

I can't see people bringing infantry to this template fest. Maybe terminators/things that have an invo save. So what if you can bring LoTD armies now since most of their forces can be obliterated on turn 1. No.... better to bring the defilers, bassys, and Russes.

My Guess:
I see what GW are trying to do, upscale 40K so people buy larger armies. so far it looks like the wrong way to do it. You get various types of dustbin lid of doom you can dump on the table. It might appeal to kiddies, until they cannot field the armies except by subbing tonka trucks for the various warmachines required to have a force on the table on turn three. Older gamers may lijke the opportunity to use big Forgeworld (or Armorcast) kits in a game, but the novelty will wear off as what little tactics remain in the game will disappear. Who gets 1st turn is important now, it will be worth thousands of points soon. In the end when all is said and done you might end up with a normal 40k game with the surviving remnants in the corners, though they might need to footslogger through the wreckage for a few turns before they can fight it out. I am not optimistic. It will be nice to see rules for multiple vehicles, three yes, but ten Leman Russ, save that for epic. This will get bogged down very quickly, only skimmers will get to manoeuver and shoot, sqiadrons of ten Falcons will be r0xx0ring over everyone. Yawn, as if we didnt have enough problems with Eldar.

I think you are being a bit pesimistic. Apocolypse is meant to be what you make of it. You can create large narative battles, sieges, etc. Or you can just play a big engagement if you like.
If you are worried about the game degenerating into a template fest played in a totally unrealistic fashion with kids, then make sure you only play amongst adults. You can agree pregame to only use x amount of super heavies, or what have you.
I think there will be far more room for manoeuvre now then in normal 40K. Hell, there really isnt any now. With a very large table things like scouts, air support, deepstrikers, etc. will actually serve a roll similar to what they would in reality. Im not saying it will be a mirror match, but it will be closer. Mechanized units will really shine when compared to foot sloging infantry.
I think this is an oppertunity to take 40K to the next level, beyond a pick up points efficiency contest. I am really looking forward to the ability to make my own vehicles, design campaigns with friends, etc.
But that is just my opinion.

I am going to have to agree with Reecius. I think this is going to be a blast. Everyone at the shop that seems to be interested are well into their 30's, and are dreadging out all of their figs from the deepest parts of boxes in basements. We have tried playing these types of games before, with little luck. It just takes too long with the normal 40k rules. We don't have to buy new things, because most of us have tons of stuff already. It's just a new way to play, and more beer and pretzels fun. This is WAR!

Well, if you guys want to spend that amount of money/time assembling the current metal kans, go ahead. They're a god awful mess in my experience. I'll believe the Stompa when I see it. I've been hearing the "problems with the sprue" excuse for so long now it hardly makes me bat an eyelid. Kult of Speed could work alright, but when I say Orks, I actually mean orks from codex Orks. Maybe in January Apocolypse will be more attractive. More likely I'll sell my orks.

Sher why bother paying GW for anything like? I found the front and back needed filling to stick together, the legs needed pins, the feet fall off and the weapon arms don't fit in properly. That and the horrendous amount of flash. Anyway, enough of my stereotypical hi-jacking of a perfectly good thread. Where's Kyoto to make an amusing remark about premature baldness?

I have seena fellow gamer hard mount the singles in foreward positions ver flush tothe hull and the duals swing in right over them, interesting look, ill toy with as im building as well...
