Congrats man!

I think you could use him as a Super Heavy C'tan. Just wrap some dark cloth around him and scratch build a "tomb ship" walker, and you are good to go!

Figured out the main cheast armor plate.
Instead of making it some fiddly bit that folds over itself etc.. I'm going directly for foamcore for it's bulk.

I've got a good technique for tempaltes now.
I draft them out on graph paper.
Scan them.
Then I trace over the lines digitally.
Then I lighten the photo untill nothing but the lines I draw in remain.
Then I edit in text.

This is allowing me to turn out printable templates in a matter of minutes, which is a huge plus.

When I am done with this project I intend on bundling all the templates with instructions together into a nice PDF file to share.

I slapped the new armor plates on it

NOTE TO SELF: Redesign shoulder supports from 3 boxes down to 1. 8cm deep x 20cm long x 5cm tall.

The shoulder supports were left over from an earlier design and I had already glued the armor plates on before it occured to me to redesign them.

More bulk near the shoulder is probably a good thing. Try the 3 boxes out?

Great progress!

I am keeping the 3 boxes on this one becuase I already glued it in place. The one new box will be as big as all 3 of those put together. There is really no good reason to have 3 seperate boxes with this build. I just don't want to rip it to shreds to replace them.

Added some abdomen armor as well. Will post pics of that tommorrow.

Getting Ahead......

Start with the basic head and add the face armor from the template ealier in the thread and you end up with

Add the nifty new face armor, from the template I haven't finished or posted yet and you get

Working on the template as we speak. Had to make a few adjustments to it when I was trying to attach it. The template I have at the moment does not reflect those changes

I've been following the thread about the warhounds myself. Drool..............

It's really just a time consideration. I can sclupt and cast in resin and white metal, but it adds alot of time to the project that I just don't have.

Although if he likes my plans enough, when their finished, that he wants to build them, I'd definitely have to weasel my way into owning one

Come on, Vader has two distinct eye sockets and the overlapping helmet sections, as well as the fron grill being triangular.

If anything, my design looks like a Cyclon from the new BSG

Which was unintentional, but hillarious becuase I was reading the BSG RPG while I was making it.

Looking good, and I can definitely see the cylon resemblance now that you mention it. Are you leaving the vision slit sealed, or might you open it up and put in some interior detail too?

Your warlord is looking really cool.
Have you thought about adding some lights to the head?
Normally I don't like the new "apocalypse redisgned" warlord but this hybrid between it and the metal epic one is turning out really cool.

I hadn't really considered adding electronics to it when I started, but now that you mention it, I might do something simple like opening up the slit, adding a 'window' and a redlight inside the head

Someone else, cough, cough, Foda_Bett, has put the idea in my head about a motorized vulcan mega bolter....

I have a dozen small electric motors left over from my DeffKopta project I'm working on...so it's only a matter of time.

The one obsticle I'm trying to avoid before hitting it is how to support the additional weight.

I had originally just palnned on making a really lightwieght titan, so I didn't really reinforce the legs all too much. They are reinforced against collapse/crushing, but to support additional weight I really should have created and endoskeleton.

I'm in the proccess of adding plasticard skin/armor plating to the legs. With luck, the additional layers of plasticard and glue will reinforce the knee joints. The knees seem to be the structural weakpoint int he design.

Normally I don't like the new "apocalypse redisgned" warlord but this hybrid between it and the metal epic one is turning out really cool.

Thanks.

I've stopped using the Apocalypse art as a reference at this point. Too many round shapes and cathederals looks cool, but they aren't functional and they bothered me more and more as I went along.

Giant Armor Plates, or steps and doorways into the leg? Hmmm........

on my warlord I put grab handles (like on tanks) so you could get up onto the ankle and the into a hatch.
Of course if you were the princeps you could just use the elevator

Have you thought about filling the legs with something?
I know when building vinyl models it is recommended that you fill the legs with plaster of paris to add weight and stability.
Perhaps you could double check the seals on the legs and then pour in some plaster?
You could even run all the wires into the legs so the main weight (the batteries) is in the legs/feet.

Lights can be found cheaply and light weight.
I have a strobing light on my warlord that started out life as one of those "safety lights" that runners wear at night, it had a nice cylon like effect so on it went.

The motors I use for my weapons are also very light weight, i'm sure if you have motors that you were going to use for deffkopta's they should be light weight.

I appreciate the feedback and suggestions. Please keep any ideas you thing woudl be helpfull coming.

The week point on the leg is due to the reverse knee configuration. The bit between pieces 10 & 11 in this pic.

It's sturdy enough for now, but I just worry that if I make the top to heavy it will just break the bons and snap off there. A wire armature probably would have alleviated that if I thought to include one.

Right now I'm not going to sweat it tooo much. Breaking it apart to reinforce it isn't an appealing concept to me, so I'm going to try it as is. If it's breaks under the weight, I'll just reinforce it before assembling it.

The lower legs are pretty hollow, so if I need to weight it later on it would be a simple matter to drill behind the knee and fill it with sand.

I have a strobing light on my warlord that started out life as one of those "safety lights" that runners wear at night, it had a nice cylon like effect so on it went.

I was thinking about just a continous red light, but if I come across something ala Knight Rider, like you did, then I'll have to change my plans. Currently the plan was using the little battery operated candles, like they use for Jack O Lanterns. I saw some cheap at the local Dollar Store.

The motors I use for my weapons are also very light weight, i'm sure if you have motors that you were going to use for deffkopta's they should be light weight

Muhahahaha

I didn't exlpain it well earlier. I bought a dozen or so little remote control with wire race cars at the dollar store for my DeffKoptas, but not for the actual motor. The race cars had little fake engine blocks on their hoods, that I'm cutting off and using on my DeffKoptas.
It left me with a dozen Remote control cars without carapaces.

I've so far managed to resist the urge to motorize anything smaller than a War Marchine.

Planning on having a Stompa with working buzz saws, and Motorized Vulcan Mega Bolters, but that was about it at the moment.

The Baby has been eating up my modelling time the last week or so, and I haven't been able to work on miniatures for more than 5 minutes without being interrupted.
