Why can't the people that shoot people and kill themselves not target people like Fred Phelps and the like. Then at least they would of done something meaningful.

Like give these nuts a martyr?

Honestly, I find this line Beautiful from God Hates Ireland:
Ireland is notorious for being huge supporters of the evil monstrosity that is the Catholic "church." You can't get much more demonic than supporting an institution that damns souls to Hell on a daily basis.

Pot, meet Kettle, indeed.

I don't care if they have a martyr. Just as long as the martyr isn't around anymore. And after a few deaths I'm sure they'd stop. They're not violent groups just disgusting, despicable groups.

Let them rant and rave. At the end of the day, they have little impact. They should be run out of town if they try to picket funerals, but their websites really are just too funny.

You're right. I just take stuff like this too seriously. It just sickens me to see people like Fred Phelps.

I aqree Heath Ledger's death also hit me pretty hard. At 28 you still have your whole life ahead of you and it's very sad to lose all that.
Another death that saddened me was Walter Payton, but he wasn't as young and it was quite a while ago.

Pretty sure it is. These guys came here to Albuquerque last year to picket a soldiers funeral. They're damn lucky they didn't get shot.

People who express this degree of hate towards homosexuals have gotta be externalizing their own hidden desires, right? Like Ted Haggard and Larry Craig?

Obviously. People don’t personally embody EVERYTHING they hate. But there are plenty of folks out there who demonize behaviors in others which they secretly indulge in or desire themselves. One particularly noteworthy and seemingly common instance is in the specific instance of homophobia among practitioners of religions which denigrate homosexuals. Which is probably so common because homosexuality is pretty darn common (somewhere between 2% and 10% of the population), and given its (largely or predominantly, depending on your source) biological basis, it’s still common among practitioners of those religions.

Are these sites for real? I cannot beleive they are anything but hoaxes, I know therre are many flakey subgroups in or attached to Chrisitianity but these guys....

The whole "god hates...." line is absolutely not any form of Christian theology, even the =I= (the real one) , and no they weren't real Christiand either, worked on the assumption that 'God hates the sin not the sinner'.

Associating Chritians with these scum is about as valid as associating non-Christians with Hitler and Stalin (which we dont do), but supposedly follows a 'logic' after all they weren't Christians either.

Yes they are real. Yes they are insane.

I'm not sure you can judge the Spanish Inquisition as not being real Christians.

If you mean by "we" Christians, well for one you don't even get to come close to speaking for all Lutherans, Baptists, Catholics, Westboroians, Episcopalians, ect. As yes, many Christians have actually done that very thing, many times.

When it comes to judge, noone can. In fact it is bad theology to judge anyone salvation, as they could repent unbeknownst to anyone but God. But Jesus also said 'you will know them by their fruit'. The =I= were somewhat lax on the 'love thy neighbour' bit, as well as the 'forgiveness' bit, as an organisation they were NOT Christians, in fact the previous Pope made statments of aplogy and reconciliation regards the excesses of the =I=.

The Evangelical Alliances was formed to offer a broad understanding between Christian groups and core points of doctrine they all follow. On some issues one Christian can speak for all, the group we are discussing clearly violates many of the essential core tenets of Christianity as a greed by all accepted denominations, including those mentioned. We have agreed to disagree on the details such as: the conception, Mary, Papal infallibility, women priests, and how to read certain verses and how to perform baptism. However such concepts as Gods love and the divinity of Jesus, the former of which is being challenged here, are on the agreed not-negotiable shortlist for any Christian denomination not wanting to be denounced as a cult.

This group are about as 'Christian' as the Jehovahs Witnesses and Christian Scientists.

Ahtman wrote:

No Christian group formally accociates unbelief with atrocity, though many are aware of and preach on the existance of persecution. I have unlucky enough to have seen persecution myself, and know someone who was martyred for refusing to renounce their faith, I was talking to her mere hours before she was killed. This happens even in the western world - though such cases are thankfully rare.
However I am aware that many Christians misrepresent their faith out of fear, the need to make themselves feel spitiually useful, inexperience or plain ignorance. To some extent all Christians do or say something stupid, I know I have in my past.

If you wish to open up a further topic start a new thread, and allow this one to go back to commemorating Heath Ledger, and not the whackjobs who are demonstrating against his memory.
