they're definitely not identical from the pictures people posted in the thread linked below. i don't personally own them but, from the pics, the grind stuff has less detail. honestly, the difference isn't all that much and i doubt anyone would notice it without a side by side comparison once painted (or perhaps a painting competition).

They don't look any less detailed to me. Maybe "Identical" isn't the right word, but they obviously use the same mold with the difference being the WM 'jacks have separate peices for the heads and shoulders, and the Grind Jacks do not. However, the only "difference" I can see is that the Cygnar Grind Heavy Jack has less rivets around the shoulder than the WM version. It might be that since a different type of plastic is used, the detail doesn't hold up as well in the mold, but still, those pictures if anything convince me that they use they must have used the same mold or master

An official announcement of today:

Dust Studio wrote:Some news from Dust Studio. Here are a few pictures of a special release available only at San Diego Comic Con (July 22-25, 2010). This item will only be available on Sideshow Collectibles’ booth, so make sure to visit them to grab one.

This is a schwer Panzer KampfLaüfer IV-C “JagdLuther” from the Axis army. It packs two 7.5 cm PaK 42 L/70. The miniature comes fully painted with its scenic base. In the box you’ll also find a regular base and a unit card both to use when playing Dust Tactics.

After Comic Con this item will be available on our website, www.dust-tactics.com, starting in September. As for the special release, it’s fully painted by our Studio.

We call this range the “Dust Tactics Deluxe Edition” and it has nothing in common with any pre-painted miniatures you’ve ever seen. Everything is there: weathering, paint effects, decals, etc. (Though if you want the scenic base, grab one from Sideshow.).

As you already know Dust Tactics will be released at Gen Con this summer. This will be a good time to see the quality of our “Deluxe Edition”. We’ll have a few sets there of the starter set, fully painted.

I'm pretty stoked about this game but the lack of tape measure in that picture above and the grid system seems to suggest that it's a tile based game.

Not the end of the world but might limit gaming board options.

Still looks good though.

Not sure what to think yet. The pic doesn't blow my mind. I guess I was expecting something that could be nice alternative to 40K. For whatever reason, this doesn't look like it will fit the bill for me.

We'll see once it comes out.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

So MSRP is 100 bucks for 32 figs, 4 mechs, and 6 small terrain pieces - with no rulebook pictured!? I'm sorry but I'll pass. Not even GW charges that much for a starter set.

Yeah, they charge significantly more for what is the equivalent of 3 boxes of Guard and 4 Dreads.

I'll will most likely be buying this!

And, while I *might* use them in a game of DUST TACTICS, I will DEFINITELY be using them in other Weird War II games, more specifically, in SECRETS OF THE THIRD REICH!

SOTR! My thoughts exactly.

Plenty of game options and uses for these minis.

I'm guessing the game will come with rules to play it. GW may enjoy making people buy a rulebook and a codex separately, but Alderac is a game company and is going to put a rulebook in their game.

Whether $100 will be reasonable will have to depend on whether or not the game is any good and what the figures look like in person. Alderac's promo material says "For those of you who are painters, you'll find the base coat perfect to be painted on. Save hours of assembly and preparing your minis: we've done it for you already!" If they actually have no visible mould lines and are truly prepped, I can see this being a real feature for some. For hobbyists who want to build from scratch, less so.

The mechs look huge to me. Way bigger than a dreadnought. And they look kind of awesome.

This game is on my "watch for more info" list. I need to know more to decide if it's worth it.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

The mechs look to be the same size as a Sentinel.

That's not really "huge".

They are bigger and bulkier than a Sentinel. More on the UNA Cobra side of scale.

The miniatures look to be a similar scale/style as some of the AT-43 stuff. The individual trooper models are likely noticeably taller than Cadians. The bases are probably 30mm like AT-43 rather than 25mm/1 inch like 40k infantry. The tank-walkers are definitely way bulkier than a sentinel. Sentinels are awesome models, but I'm thinking these will be "huge" in comparison. Like a big UNA walker from AT-43.

I'm still in "wait and see" mode but if they're decent, I could see buying a box or buying some off of ebay if people start breaking up the box sets.

Could the walking Shermans be used as funky Lemans Russ?

If so I'll certainly want some.

My LGS has had one of the German Walkers for months(he got it from Paulo). It's about the same size as a Type 2 AT-43 Walker(closest in size to the UNA and RB ones), so much bigger than a Sentinel in bulk.

Here's some comparisons(with a LR chassis just for Kyoto-sama):

Sentinel, UNA Copperhead, FW Thousand Sons Dread, IG Demolisher, Red Blok Kossak

When I stop in the FLGS on Tuesday to check out Fantasy 8th ed, I'll ask if I can get some shots of the German Walker(with a Dread for comparison).

I was expecting this to be a closer comparison to AT-43. But they seem to have gone with more of a board game look. Which sadly is trying to find a middle ground between board games, and tabletop game. And between un-made, and pre-painted. I don't think I'll be getting this . . . maybe get some of thos grey mechs to use as Red Blok. But it doesn't look like that good a game sadly.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I think the success of games like Battlelore, the Command & Colors series, Tide of Iron, Arcane Legions, Heroscape, Descent & others shows that having a board game with tabletop/miniatures elements is no reason to think a game will not be good because it goes that route.

I can definitely see being disappointed if you were hoping it was more AT-43, but I think that's not a real reason to evaluate a game one way or another. Especially when it's not even out yet.

And for the peaople who play those games then this game is perfect (admitidly I quite like the look of Tide of Iron). But I'm more of a whole tabletop player, or board game. So something in the model somehow doesn't work. Even though it includes 2 things that I like. I confuse myself sometimes with how my brain decides to work =p

Pictures of the German Loth(I'm pretty sure that's what the unit card said) next to Copperhead and a Kossak.

Please note that the base actually isn't really that much thinner, the bases of my Walkers have magnetic sheet attached underneath that make them look thicker than they are..

Well, I stand by "huge." It's one thing I liked about the AT43 walkers and it's cool that the Dust ones will be that big as well.

As for the things just being basecoated, I'm thinking a touch of highlighting and then some weathering washes and all will be well.

For me, it'll be rules that will determine if I get this or not. How the game actually plays out. Any time I see custom dice I get a bit worried, but maybe it will make sense for the game.
