I didn't read the post I just gawked at the pictures. I hope that this isn't just a single model and you'll somehow be able to cast and sell this.

Very creative & very well done. I wish I had your skills.

Riding flightless birds have been a staple of fantast art for a long long time. I saw 70's art that depicted similar, an early cover of White Dwarf even used it (GW used to use 70's fantasy art a lot while they were still an RPG magazine) and I know that is not the first reference in the genre.

I always carry three magazines. One to get me to cover. One to put up a spirited defense. And one to get me to where I left my weapon.

Okay, I'll send you a PM with the details.

Well said. Incidentally, Nurglitch I've never even played final fantasy. The only reason I even know what a chocobo is is because people have mentioned them when they saw the concept art.

Update 4/13/08

Tah-Dah! Sculpting is complete, and the originals are off for casting. I think the final product looks stunning. I want to thank everyone who was supportive of this project.

Here's all the parts and such. Notice the wicked claws on the moa's feet.
The neck has a joint at each end, so there will be lots of different poses you can put the moa in when you assemble them.

The beauty of the design is that the rider can be completed with just about any 28mm scale torso and head, so no matter what you play, the riders will fit in with the rest of the army. Here, the model has been completed with some regular IG plastics, but obviously those are not included. Notice that the left arm is holding the reigns.

And for those club members who are just getting the riders so they can put them on horses, you can see that the legs also fit very well on a regular steed.

What amazes me is that only Strimen got the joke, even when he explained it...

The "joke", if you will, was that Moas and other flightless birds are what inspired fantasy birds like Chocobos, with the implication that Moas being derivative from Chocobos is absurd.

I'd like to point out that the sculpted models in this thread are very very cool, and that I like them. When/where can we place orders?

But real moas were not known for being ridden, my point remains. Too many people do think that something they see they also prevuiously saw in a video game/cartoon is da suxxor ripoff, and dont look at any media prior to what is before them on the TV screen. To prove the point several people brought up the chocobo reference.

I can't say definitively that they're will be another run but in the past when there was enough of a list interested parties to be worth while they did additional runs.
