Lovin this Dragon, armor and all! My only suggestion: How about a rider? I know this sculpt is meant to be used in an already existing army with the consideration that the person fielding it would already have a miniature painted, but I can't help wanting something that's acutally interacting with this sculpt. The dragon is just so amazing, I'd want a rider who didn't looklike it was just 'plopped' into the howdah. I don't play any fantasy wargames, so this Miniature would just be for fun and the rare D&D game. As for variants.... hydras and wyvverns and pterodactyls! Oh MY!. That brings up another suggestion: what about a "mechanised" version for those of us with a more sci-fi bent? It's fairly hard to find a good sci-fi mini that isn't just "moar power armor" or "tanks iz gud".........

I would love to sculpt a rider/s, or even commission a sculpt for a rider by one of my fave sculptors. Perhaps we will do this down the road. Sounds like a great opportunity to make a limited edition rider for charity.
I like the idea for the magnets. Is there a website where I can buy a bunch? If we did make a little area to glue the magnet in then we could also ship it with a few magnets for each customer. That would be a very cool feature.
We actually went in tonight and cut away the howdah, removing the wing ports so we can move them forward a little more. We have the new ports drying right now. It is an added bonus that the wing ports will now attach to the dragons body and not to the howdah itself, so you can make a complete dragon without having to use the howdah. If you have a mini with a cool mounted throne or saddle you can just green stuff him up on top if you wish. We would not have made these changes if not for everyones great feedback so on behalf of Ultraforge we thank you very much.

Have you been playing the Elder Scrolls recently? The armour looks very "Elven" from their styling. The armour puts me in a mind of Ayleid ruins!
I must say the sculpt/pose looks nice but, well, the jury seems to be out on the armour for me. Specifically around the snout, it's just a tad steampunkish with a slight dash of Kroq-Gar that seems jarring when the model as a whole is taken.
I'm assuming since this has possible options... will the limbs be completely changeable? Zombie wings/legs or will we be left to provide certain things? If you;re planning on sculpting several possible pieces I would say, design shots! Hah.
It's just that at the moment it seems like a nice replacement for a High Elven or Dark Elven dragon and generally less so for humans and orcs and evil people and ogres and trolls and dwarves and so on.
Also, covered howdah perhaps? The rider looks like he'd be thrown out of it if the dragon lurched too fast at the moment.

A covered Howdah I think would defeat the purpose of the overall look.
We'll just have to settle with a magical connection between the rider and the dragon to keep them in place

It is also good to hear there are people interested in a hydra variant. This should be a very fun challenge. Personally, I can not wait to take the dremel to a resin cast copy of the dragon and re-sculpt up a zombie variant.
Happy dance!! I can't wait to see them both!
Another thing, what do you have planned for the base? Will it just be a natural scenic base, with rocks and dirt? Or maybe a little mayhem and destruction as dragons are known to cause? Charred skeletons locked in valiant poses of futile last stands, or maybe some splintered timber and buckled metal, possibly to represent any manner of war machine or building torn to bits? (Though such things could possible distract from the model itself, I suppose.) Curious because I absolutely love the Treewoman base, how it actually looks like a forest floor and she appears to be rooted to it. Very cool stuff.

looks awesome! any idea of a price range? i'm kinda sad to hear about your minis being limited releases...but maybe you could just release slight variants every few years if some models are popular enough so people would still be able to get the model, but still have the limited aspect.

Looking realy good! Great dragon only got 2 problems.
1. howdah's sucks. But thats just a matter of my taste However for a howdah it looks good
2. Wing placement is wrong, im not sure if you can fix it at this point. And im not sure if you WANT to fix it, however i found a pic that maybe could help.

Rofl that's harsh Bla-Ze but if ya dun like Howdah's ya dun like Howdah's - however it is removal so that's no longer a problem!
Wing placement is being shifted forward already.
Anyway ummm there are no such things as dragons so your picture is just a "guess". Imo to allow something like a dragon to fly in reality you'd end up with something that looks VERY different from a "dragon" as we conceive it.

It looks like Captain Jack Sparrow is riding his dragon.
Like the dragon, but I think if the rider is going to be there the howdah should be more 'swept' back and the rider should be 'into the wind' dynamic.
If any of that makes sense.

Sophie isn't modelling the rider at this moment, she already mentioned that.
So you could convert a model to get that "into the wind" dynamic that would look awesome.
But for me I love the ability to place different miniatures on top of the dragon.

www.kjmagnetics.com is where I get all mine. They usually have great deals in their surplus section if you are not terribly picky.
Plus you can get a sphere magnet the size of a golf ball. Spice up your next company outing!
I can't wait for this beast to be done. I will have to see what WHFB armies can take dragons, or explain "It's a daemon prince. Really."

It does work as a Daemon Prince, I think... but if you can bring a Daemon Prince you could just say it's a Chaos Dragon, instead!
Err unless you meant 40k... Then I feel stupid.
But I'm stealing your Golf Ball Magnet Idea. That'd even be good around the office, just roll it around and see which cube it clings to...

Oh well hell, if we're criticizing things that aren't part of the model...
I think the Rider is also too bland and simple, and expect alot better detail to match the dragon. I mean, a bland pose is one thing, but come ON, at least give her a FACE!
But why stop there? I think that black disk thing he's standing on is way too thick and shiney. And I dislike the hobby knives with the soft handle. Be a man! Use an all metal knife!

Normal words can't say how just how awsome these models actually are and how reasonable your pricing is for them. Quality and pricing that is reasonable are almost unheard of in the gaming world.
All I can say is I have lots of projects in mind for future armies and they will almost always feature an Ultraforge model as the center piece.
And yes, i realize I can't compete in a GW sanctioned event like Games Day or Grand Tournement with non GW models but honestly....with models like this.....you the @#*@& cares.

OH WOW !!!!!
That is just too cool !!!! I don't even play fantasy and I'm going to get one !!!
I may have to "pimp my ride" and make him (her?) a "future" dragon with chromed armor (good for deflecting lazer blasts that scales can't), some cybernetic conduit (guitar string) and use the howda as a gun turret !!!
Ooooh .... when can I get one ... um ... two ... I think I'd like a fantasy version, too !!!

Really like it, but the Leg armor, while being amazingly sculpted, is a bit old, not to say odd on a dragon. I mean the demon chick wore it before.
Other than that, very nice work and I actually like the idea of a "standing rider". Should be easy enough to get a rider if you have one for your army.

Even half finished that looks fantastic! To my mind exactly how a dragon should look. Can't wait to see the finished article.
One question, what did you use to sculpt it? I can see a 'block' of green material in one of the pictures but it doesn't look like Greenstuff to me. Do you use a polymer clay such as Sculpey? Or is it actually Greenstuff?

The green material is FIMO, which makes up the "skin" of the dragon. You just cook it with a hairdryer to harden it, but it is still quite fragile and you have to be very careful. He has an Apoxie Sculpt and wire armature, which makes for a very strong skeleton. The straps were made with green stuff since it sticks better than FIMO.
The wings have moved up a bit and the howdah is still a removable piece that you don't need to use. Thanks for the constructive criticism. Even tho I am a big fan of the howdah I am personally quite interested in grabbing cool mounted heroes and green-stuffing them to the top of the dragon for fun. Jeremy should be done the wings in a few days. We will post pictures as soon as the green is complete. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions.

Wow, I should come to modelling forum more often.
I really like this beast. It would make a wondrous addition to my exodite force. Just one question tough: would it be possible to mount it as a wingless Dragon? Well, sort of monstrous dinosaur instead of a dragon... I'm sure you can leave wings aside, but I fear part of the wings are "hard-coded" in the body frame.
I'm looking forward for alternate howdah styles too. Perhaps more hi-tech

Vascariz, the pose of the Treewoman will be the same. Only her hands were reworked as requested by a few forum posters. Her pose really goes with her base so a rework would be tricky. We will however has the Treelord back very soon and that should provide another option if you wanted to have two Treepeople.
Verm, I personally like to use cooking oil to keep my tools from sticking to the green stuff. Oil however is absorbed by FIMO, but I find FIMO less sticky anyhow. I keep a little puddle of cooking oil next to my sculpting tools. When Jeremy worked at the hobby store I know he would go to the coffee shop and get little things of margarine that people use on their muffins. He would use that on his tools... but all his minis came out smelling like butter!
This is gonna sound weird, but you can also brush your took along the part where your nose comes to your cheek. There are oily deposits on the edge of your nose and in a pinch they make a great oil for sculpting. That is a trick my photography teacher taught me in high school.
No matter what tho, try not to lick your tools as green stuff is most probably harmful to you when ingested. Make sure to wash up right after working with it as well since green stuff will leave a film on your fingers. Safety first.
