Unfortunately it's about 14 million Koreans. They celebrated their 500,000 member mark in North America AND Europe COMBINED about 6 months ago or so. It's huge in South Korea.

Going for polish is a very good idea. There are basically two kinds of people that will play this game: hardcore GW fans, and people just looking for a good game. The hardcore folks might be pissed with a delay, but in the end they're still going to play. The others are going to give a try if its got good reviews. That's where the polish comes into play.
The hardcore folks just need to have the patience to know that this is for the best.
At this point, I think it's pretty much impossible to be better than WoW. WoW has become so popular, so widespread, that it's more than the benchmark, it's past that, it's just "how it's supposed to be." So even if a game comes out with great new features that can be viewed as "better" they'll ultimately just be "not like WoW" and thus not what people want.
The real key is to be significantly different, and to be enough of a new experience that the whole paradigm of what people are doing online changes.
Put differently, you don't want to be new and improved WoW you want to be a whole new genre that becomes the new favorite.
In the end, I don't see WHO challenging WoW at all. It's not going to be a better WoW, it's not going to be a whole new genre. I see WoW being the king for some time. That won't stop WHO from being a fun, popular, well supported game, which I hope it is... But it's not going to be WoW. Nothing is.
I'm a GW game player, and I don't really even care about WHO. I'll probably wait on reviews to see if I even buy it.

The trouble with trying to beat WoW is that many people play WoW because that's what their friends play. Any game launching now won't have that going for it.
That doesn't mean that WHO won't be successful and earn mega-oodles of money. It probably won't match WoW's giga-oodles of money, but it doesn't need to for the game to be a success. The telling point is whether EA continues to support it with new content if it's a great profit game, but doesn't match WoW. EA's decision in that regard will determine whether it keeps going or slowly fades away.
I've got a busy job and I'm planning on getting a puppy, so it's highly unlikely I'll ever find time for a MMORPG again. It's still interesting to hear about them though.

A Few random comments
The only thing that scares me about a game that really relies on PvP is you will have large group of high level jerks who hunt down low level people for the fun and sport of killing defenseless peeps. Now I know some of you are smiling and saying "But that is part of the fun! It is realistic that way!" I personally don't see much fun in that, but don't want to be excluded from playing WO for that reason.
That being said, I think it will be the PvP that really allow it to compete with WoW. They don't need to try and beat WoW at its own game (no pun intended). Siege warfare would be lots of fun and it is currently something WoW really lacks. Large Epic battles. Create spells, weapons, etc for the the purpose of fighting huge battles, and then you have something no one else tried (DAoC not counting since it is the same game maker).
I am so sick of people complaining about bugs and server issues when new games like this release. So if they say that is why it is being delayed and that is really the reason why it is being delayed...I for one have no problems. I still have nightmares from Anarchy Onlines initial release.
Last comment - WO has got to allow the female market to be available. I had a lot of female friends who switched over from EQ and EQII to play WoW solely as Alliance just because they like how pretty their characters were. WoW didn't try to make all their women look like they came from plastic surgery land and decided that less armor (or clothing period) meant you were just as hard to hit . Hopefully others who are serious about the marker will take note.

A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

You're thinking of open world PVP. There are places you go that are open
pvp zones in WAR (from what I understand), and there's probably a system
in place to prevent griefing. In other words, just because PVP is the main
point of WAR doesn't mean it's going to turn into UO 1.0.

Mythic's RvR system takes care of the high level ganking. In DAoC, you could advance to the level cap and play plenty of content without ever having to worry about having a PvP encounter. If you went on the frontiers, you would have PvP without flags. Also, you got far less realm points for killing low level players, and there wasnt really any penalty for dying in PvP other than a cooldown period.
WAR is going to be very similar.

Ok, it's bugging me. What is W.A.R.? I can see W.H.O. is WarHammer Online and W.O. is Warhammer Online, but where the heck did WAR come from? Is that just suposed to be the first 3 letters of the whole name? WARhammer online?

The game will not be as good as WoW. Still, I am looking forward to playing the game.
I am a fan of their active character approach. There are no completely defensive characters in the game, which catches my eye. While I would never play a priest in WoW, I will consider playing a warrior priest in WAR. Having a justifiable reason to hit someone with a hammer, as a support class, makes it worth playing. Of course it's really tempting to play a Dark Elf Blackguard to watch my damage build up as my rage does.
Next, their take on PVP (RVR) should be an exciting experience. With the MMO experience of Mythic I expect the game to handle PVP in a very balanced, goal oriented way. Mythic has made mistakes with PvP at times, and mistakes with power-jump expenasions. This also reassures my faith that the game will be good, as they have had a chance to see what works and what doesn't. Now that they have a clean slate to work on, it is possible to toss every class, annoying feature, and game mechanic that players didn't fully enjoy, and make a better game for it!

Don't worry Korcheski, they have a system in place for just this situation and if I remember correctly the solution involves a chicken. If you want more than that you will have to either read up on the game or wait to see the system in action.

Indeed there are areas in the zones that flag you for pvp-BUT if say a 40th level character went into a pvp zone intended for 20th level characters he is turned into a chaos chicken with one damage and like 100 hitpoints.

Yeah if the SA goons get behind this game I'm sure there will be times like that. When there's a recruitment drive, a bunch of the high-level dudes will help their newbie bros and it will be great times.
