I was told autumn, like October or November...from a playtester. I was also told this was Gav's last work in the Studio and the armylist was compensated for past sins of the author. FWIW.
The Power Cosmic wrote:Didn't he do the last Dark Elf book?
Yes, Gav was responsible for the 6th ed. nerfing of the Dark Elves- the first ever army book so underpowered that GW not only agreed it needed a revision, they actually posted one for it. To be fair, Gav admitted his error, and his work might not have seemed so bad if Alessio hadn't also turned the Skaven into the powergamers' wet-dream.
I just want to (finally!) be able to read post after post from people whining about how cheesey and overpowered Dark Elves are.
New models for the line include plastic Corsairs, Hydra, and Cold One Knights. Cold One Chariots seem to be the same, and Witch Elves, Executioners, and Black Guard are getting repackaged 5-to-a-box. No word on new sculpts for Warriors, Dark Riders, or a plastic Bolt Thrower. Also no word on a plastic hero kit or mage kit, which is what most DE players really want.

What? You didn't like the executioners? Or the always-amazing Dark Riders?
That squid-head is going on something I'm converting, unless that special character mentioned eariler in the thread already has a squid-helmet.
And if the hydra bites (badump-bump!), Reaper has a very attractive new hydra model.
I do like the current executioners and the wyches are ok, look forward to more wyches should they be secksy and höt, though given the new demonettes I expect conservative corsets at minimum and full length skirts at worst (hide those ankles!)
The only part of these new models I like is the squid-head. The rest, well they're better than the current warriors but going in a direction I don't care for (the spiky helmets, lunging stances, flurry of weapons, etc). So meh.
Bring on a new hydra, have whoever did the carnosaur do it. The only DE list I ever contemplated was the "monster rancher" build, and with tasty new hydra rules there best be a totally hot multi-headed lizard to match

Good News! Or rather, good rumor!
I just read a post on Druchii.net that says the Dreadlord is actually a plastic model!
So that means this hideous, static high-hair is just a series of poor choices on someone's part, and not a total waste of time, effort, and pewter by GW.
Dark Mother, I hope that's true.

I like em, but seriously though, if they are going to redo cold one knights, why not cold one chariots? If they are changing the Cold Ones (Please God, they look like fugly cows, and please not like the Lizardmen Tardosaurs) then why not the chariots? If they could red-do the dark rider horses in the same manner that they changed the Wood Elf horses and keep the current riders, that kit would be awesome.

Look, the topknot's not _that_ bad. At least the Dreadlord is well-proportioned and pretty well posed. Admittedly he does look like the Slaanesh champion on a diet (and after some gender counseling), but he's not that bad at all. And I like the sickle.
I know being relative is dangerous, but even this guy is so much better than the old Cold One Knights (shoulderspikes huurrrrr!) that I'm eager to see the rest of the new models.

A lot of their miniatures ATM are throwbacks and pay some sort of homage to older stuff - Daemons spring to mind. I think they're trying to create an identity for each of their armies, more "uniformed" so they don't look like a lot of ideas from a lot of places.
Kinda like what they tried to do with the Empire soldiers, only it seems that no-one found all those skulls and bare-feet funny or identity defining. These new miniatures play on a whole new block, though.

The Wood Elf lords show that the heroes don't have to be
chunky bits, though. I mean if I have a choice between
plastic hero that's kinda okay and metal hero that's freakin'
awesome (Wood Elfs!), then I'll take a metal hero.
Oh, and spiky bits rock.

When you compare the Carnosaur to the other things she has done, both before and after, I stop thinking "fluke" and start thinking "ringer". But I freely admit, I'm biased; I hold most of her sculpts in low regard.
Some of her older work: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/images/game/31031
Avain's list: http://folk.ntnu.no/tarjeia/avian/miniatures/sculptors.php I note that he doesn't say which manticore or high elf dragon, but I'm pretty sure she did the latest one... which initially I was excited about, but frankly the little details leave a lot to be desired. (The feet! The crude, cartoonish, three-toed feet!) She did the LotR dragon, which I personally loathe. And the old Cartoon Horses, sorry, Elven Steeds, were just pathetic (the fierce looks on their little faces- adorable!). The less said about the bat swarms, the better. So as I said before, I await further developments with excitement and trepidation.
