All a movie needs is the right director & producer(s) and a studio to take them seriously instead of looking at em as a quick buck off the fanboys. Fantasy movies were all boring with sucky-actor midgets running around till peter jackson came along and made 3 movies good enough to please the nerds and a mainstream audience. Now, newer fantasy movies are better and taken more seriously... like Narnia, Harry Potter, even that golden compass one wasn't too bad. Compare em to older movies like Legend or Labyrinth or willow or conan... They might be cult classics but that's all they'll ever be.

And I believe I read somewhere that's the reason there's never been a GW movie and there won't be unless it can be done right and they can have a ton of creative control. So, it's great that GW is being stubbron like that, if they took the first offer that came along in hopes of making a quick buck, you'd have nids that look like ewoks played by sucky-actor midgets getting beaten up by whoever the latest wrestler-star is along with his american idol winning sidekick.

I'm sure a movie will happen someday.. If they can make it anything like this video, it'll rock.

Yeah, the dreadnought sous chef was tops in an already great video. I like the physicality of the dread when it fights. Not enough simply to break what it picks up. It also wants to throw it into something that won't break.

Just the best.

I guess nobody heard of the Blood Quest movie by Exile Films and the development hell it went into then.

Old press snippet from years ago: "Fantasy war gaming company, Games Workshop is in talks with Dreamworks about a possible £25m big-screen adaptation of its tabletop conflicts. The Hollywood studio has been approached by a group of computer animators who worked on the film Lost in Space and the Starship Troopers television series. Known as Exile Films, the group is lobbying studios for £25m of funding and has already made a one-and-a-half- minute trailer."

Long story short: there was going to be a CGI movie based on Blood Quest. Some progress was made and you can find some material on YouTube (Ork Deffdred, Space Marine Dreadnought and the Space Battle minus sounds) but eventually GW pulled the plug as too much money went in and not a whole lot came out. Besides it looked like utter crap anyway.

Main reason why GW is so protective of their IP is because it is their stuff and they want the film crew to keep it that way. Just look at how Hollywood rapes concepts into something that passes the ratings or pleases the producers - the people who fund those train wrecks. DOOM is a game about fighting demons from hell, DOOM the Movie is about genes and mutated people, the religion angle was left out because the US rating goes ape-gak over religious matters. Now imagine a 40k movie where the pseudo-religious angle of the Imperium has to be retrofitted into something along the lines of what? No Emperor? Or a comedy character on a golden potty? There is also the whole thing on space marines, who will screw battle sisters and down beers in between battles while acting like a mix between Hudson and the Rock when blowing apart aliens.

Yeah the more I see stuff like this and then realize we have no 40K movies, just really kinda makes a touch dissapointed and even slightly angry.

I want a movie dammit!

Great intro.

Eldar pwning some space marines was pretty intense. The warpspider gave me shivers.

I guess, but I'm with exocorp, seemed to me like the Eldar were having way too easy of a time with the SM.

Is there no other plot device that relic can think of to put chaos on a battlefield other than the creation of a warpstorm?

Those might actually be the tendrils of a Hive Fleet, which could act as the main antagonist for the game. Comparing the black swirls to the galaxy maps and Nid hive fleets found in the 5th edition rulebook seems to heavily suggest that.

Unless it is a very unsurprising hint that chaos might be up to no good again! *gasp*

But is there really a plot device needed? After all: "It is the forty first millennium and there is only war." Reason enough if you ask me

Nieto, given how well these little vignettes are done you could expect a good movie from this. There's all sorts of potential for a background story to link all the awesome fight scenes.

I don't see why they couldn't put out some good merch. I would buy a space marine action figure, especially if it came with a piece of a dreadnaut that i could only assemble by buying the set. GW is going to survive by marketing it's IP, not by making models. That industry is in a bad hurt as it is and the cost of materials will never go back down. GW is being smart by liscensing high end computer games and two MMO's. They would be smart to put out a full budget movie too.

Nah, the issue isn’t that there won’t be merchandising (because there would be hell of a lot). The problem is who gets to control that merchandising. GW will want to retain it’s rights, and any studio willing to put up $100 million is going to want access. Sort that out and you’ll likely get a movie.

Marvel is financing it’s own film production now, largely for this very reason. GW is nowhere near capable of making their own movie, so has to look outside. That’s means it’ll either be ultra low budget (and be more of a risk than a boon to the brand) or it’ll be high budget but mean GW giving up some control of their IP.

To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Doom was awesome. Don't knock it.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

That was very cool. But from what I read a while ago about DoW 2 it sounded like it was slightly smaller scale then DoW. If Nids are in it, they could be just the big villian that isn't a playable race. At least until the expansion pack.

I'm in the "Banshee Fire Baptism" camp, but the other bit that made me giddy?

The ranger taking careful aim and getting a shot off, only to turn and get a heavy bolter levelled into him from 10 yards...

Priceless.

I'm really looking forward to this game! Who didn't love the original DoW? It encouraged some tabletop kids to play rts games, and got some rts kids to play tabletop games. Win-win, in my opinion.

I must agree with the above statement. It would be just awsome if they made a movie and kept true to the story line but as stated above there is far too much red tape :( also are you fellas talking about the game Doom or the movie, for one i love the games but not so much the movie.
