http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/220265.page#410254 this is my chapter, the Ferrous Immortalis, fear them and their righteous wrath at the inquisition.

that doesn't tell all, but does have pics (behind another link) which are painted really really badly

currently they number around 20,000 and reside on a truly huge space hulk, able to house over a 10 million marines, so there is room for growth.

as it is though, they do not involve themselves in the workings of the galaxy as their only goal is to destroy the inquisition, they are also backed up by elite human units that are being considered for space marine status, and as such seek the most glory on the battlefield (represented by kasrkins and such)

Just a man, standing in front of a paint pot, trying to remeber if I rinsed boltgun metal in it.

My chapter is called *this name is already taken* and they *theme is already taken* and they like to *favorite thing to do is already taken* also, they think it's funny to *wow seriously everything you're putting in is already taken."

I have a feeling my chapter and all of its aspects are already taken.

I too, like Davedude, decided to base my force on the black consuls chapter, although i wanted to keep with the theme of the black consuls being destroyed. I came up with a chapter called the Black Knights who were created just after the Black consuls were destroyed to fill the gap. My army is the Black Knights 3rd Company led by Captain Idaeus Vyano (hence the profile name). Here are some of my colour schemes for command squads and chaplains etc.

I've come up with several theoretical Space Marine chapters, but I've only got one I thought was original enough to mention.

I call them the Jackals. Their origins are lost, since they do not focus on maintaining memories of their own chapter. Their focus is recovering and preserving the history of others. They go to the sites of battles where Astartes have lost significant members in order to recover bodies, equipment, and artifacts from the defeated Marines. They return these to the chapter in question.

Some chapters are offended by the presumption of the Jackals, and attack them on sight for the crime of daring to touch 'their' battlegear. When battlegear cannot be returned, the Jackals make the best use of it that they can. As such, they have a ragtag, cobbled together appearance. This allows me to use bits from any kind of kit, even having bits from different chapters on the same model.

The other advantage this gives me is that it provides a perfect justification for the battle when I am facing other Marine players (obviously they are offended at my chapter's perceived 'looting'.)

The Knights Redemptio recently arrived in imperial space frome a crusaide in the emporers name only to find the galaxy in ruin. After being checked for taint by the inquisition, it was descoverd that their gene seed had been infused with the pariah gene, which makes them a valuable asset. The knights Redemptio were given premission to anchor over titan where they operate out of their Chapter ship. They work in close concert with the Grey Knights and other agents of the inquisition, although they do not take to kindly to the idea of a cult, they do see the imminent need to exterminate deamons.

Knights Redemptio is just an operating name, when sent in to battle to support marines outside of the circle of the inquisition either have no idea that they were there, or mistook them for the LOTD. Only one outsider knows of them, and, because of this, he was unoficcially inducted.

They -do- look cool, but does anybody else think there are a few too many black and red armies?

Cyclops Chapter

The Chapter were established in the latter years of M39 on a newly discovered system in the southern reaches of ultimar segmentum on the eastern fringe. Their initial purpose was to stop pirates and more notably ork wagghhhs from raiding valuable supplies from merchant shipments from the system where is is based. In the latter years of M41 their value has increased tenfold, due to being the only strong imperial presence in the area responsible for staving of hive fleet tendrils and tau expansions.
The chapter is located in the cycyacis sub sector located directly on the southern boarder of the tau empire. The capital system is the cyo system, and the chapter is based on the capital world of cyon. The cyo system enjoys trade with the surrounding systems, but can be completely self sufficient if need be. Cyon itself is a "civilized" world in imperial terms, the richest enjoying the most advanced technology available and the poorest living in poverty.
The cyclops chapter has its fortress monastery dug into a large tor on the northern peninsulas central moor. Although the chapter is widely known throughout, its fortress monastery remains a secret for security purposes. New recruits are selected through trial by combat of the new volunteers.
The chapter has 10 companies, which each have a specific purpose in the chapter but still retaining the teachings of the codex:

1st: Veteran Company (Gold Trim)
2nd: Battle Company, Tactics and Planning (Light Blue Trim)
3rd: Battle Company, Main Battle Company (Silver Trim)
4th: Battle Company, Ship to Ship Combat (Orange Trim)
5th: Battle Company, Armored Assault (Red Trim)
6th: Tactical Company, Cityfighting/Fortress Defense (Dark Green Trim)
7th: Tactical Company, Stealth/Hit and Run (Violet Trim)
8th: Assault Company, Fast Attack (Black Trim)
9th: Devastator Company, Armored Destruction (Yellow Trim)
10th: Scout Company

Forge: Red Armour
Chaplaincy: Black Armour
Librarium: Light Blue Armour
Apothacarium: White Armour

When a scout has proved himself worthy he will be admitted into the company which his skills are best suited to (e.g good at shooting, 9th company) this will become his "home company". When he has won the imperial laurel, he is worthy to either join the 1st company or his companies command squad. If he still survives and wins the Iron Skull he will be promoted to sergeant. If again he proves himself exceptional he may either become a 1st company veteran sergeant, an honour guard or his home companies chief sergeant. If his home company captain is killed he will take his place.

Im battle the chapter is broken up into strike forces, specifically designed for the task at hand. When on a large campaign it it is usually the entire 3rd company, heavily reinforced by the other companies that takes to the field. The chapter does not favor one combat style over another, preferring to remain fluid. The chapter will often support local guard regiments when on campaign.

I like it...but why do they call themselves the Cyclops? I know it might be silly and literal of me, but perhaps you might try greenstuffing one of their eyes away. Or painting a their eyes the same color as their face, and put a single, larger eye on their forehead (nonfunctional, of course, just for show and intimidation).

This is just a personal problem (your paint scheme is great) but I hate the 'red helmet for veterans' thing. I saw that for the first time in the latest Space Marine codex, and I was turned off by it. That's no complaint against you, I am in the very tiny minority on that one.

Well... I was working on my own fluff fan-fiction, and made a chapter called the Iron Tusks. They chose the name because they hoped to never falter, never show fear, and never retreat. They would continue pushing forward, impaling their enemies like the tusk of a mighty beast. However... Their story doesn't end well. Suffice to say, their doctrine doesn't work when a few companies land on a world that has been mostly taken by Genestealers; in the space of a few weeks, it escalates into all-out-war, with the Iron Tusks bringing in reinforcements. There are an estimated 2 billion Genestealers by the time the entire chapter lands to protect. Because of their honorable routine, they are continually surprised by the vicious tactics of the Genestealers and cultists.

After a month, 2 companies are dead.

After another, half of the Chapter is dead.

By the time their story ends, half a year later, only about fifty Marines remain out of the entire chapter. Their mission is complete: The threat has been neutralized. But it comes at a great cost. Their doctrine has been forced into question, the Chapter is dead, and the remaining civilian populations on the world have been annihilated.

...

Okay, I think I overdid the grim darkness there.

At one point-- REALLY early in my time as a wargamer (think early third edtion), I had an idea for a loyalist Death Guard descendant chapter planned, with mixed male/female marines (intended to swap the heads off of some models for feminine ones). But I got a TON of hate for it so I said "feth it" and looked for a different army, and found Sisters, whom I decided I liked better anyway (and still do, though I am kinda partial to loyalist descendants of traitor legions as a background for a chapter).

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Some of the captains and dreadnoughts have a single eye, only the sergeants and captains have red helms, the veteran ones are white. But good idea on the eyes on the forehead I might have to try that.....

Well Color wise mine looks like Black Consuls. Fluff wise.. its a different story.
The idea is a 40k version of Glen Cook's "Black Company".

I call them The Vagabond Rogues. Led by Chaper Master Vagabond (an Honourary title). Each member is given a new name to signify their new life, usually some kind of descriptive moniker. They wander known space trying to locate a lost world they claim is their Homeworld.
They pick up replacements as they need to, wherever they can. This has led to an unusual, but stable, mutation that manifests itself periodically.
The current Officer Corps consists of
Vagabond, often refered to as Captain
Bosco, Historian and Keeper of the Annuls of the Company, which are reguarded as religious artifacts. And
Lady, A captain who manifests certain female characteristics but is genetically male. (The previously mentioned mutation.)
Units are referenced by the name of the Sargeant in charge of that unit.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Though I don't really like marine's I had black reach and thought I may as well make up a chapter. It's called the vengeful reapers. Mostly scab red with black helmets and trims, silver weapons and turquoise eyes.
