My preferred Hellhound turret conversion:

Get yourself a predator turret sprue. Assemble the turret with the TL lascannons, then cut off the lascannon barrels. To each LC barrel mount attach a Sentinel heavy flamer.

This is not very economical, but it looks great.

I was talking about the current GW model. Which, to me, looks completely different to a heavy flamer. A difference which is backed up by the turret additions which help to distinguish it even further from a flamer-equipped Chimera.

But there's also quite a world of difference between FW's Hellhound turret and Heavy Flamer Chimera turret, both in turret design and weapon shape.

I have no idea which SM or SoB vehicles you're referring to.

The "current" GW model was created way back in 2E, and its Inferno Cannon is the styled similarly to other Heavy Flamers back then (cf. SoB Heavy Flamer model). It is one of the oldest kits still in the game, and it shows it. The Inferno Cannon is particularly dated-looking.

In 3E, GW completely changed the basic Flamer design, starting with the new plastic multi-pose Tactical SM, which has then rippled throughout 40k in the following years. The new-style Heavy Flamers look different, because they're based on a more RL-styled Flamer design. It's a totally new generation of Flamer design, which culminates in the FW Hellhounds and upcoming Land Raider Redeemer. If you're not aware of the other vehicles, that's your problem, not mine. That SoB Immolator has been around since 2E. And it's changed for 3rd/4th.

Now there are turret additions, and they do a couple of things, namely raising the turret profile (bad!), and adding extra armour (good, but goofy-looking).

Yes, the FW turrets for Chimera and Hellhound are different. But more importantly, they make the hulls completely different. And that FW Hellhound hull doesn't use any Chimera transport-related elements. You can tell at a glance by seeing the fuel tank replace the passenger cabin.

So that's the real point of distinguishing Chimera with HF turret & Transport from Hellhound with Inferno Cannon & fuel tank(s).

Well, to be fair, the Griffon does have a small cab, for the large Mortar, whereas I have a larger cab to mount the turret.

BTW, I neglected to mention - I really like the conversion.

Do we really want a flame-tank that can rotate it's turret so that it can fire burning promethium DIRECTLY OVER IT'S OWN FUEL TANKS?

Seems silly to me...

Yeah, I'm aware of how old it is. I still don't think it looks like a heavy flamer, sorry.

... and upcoming Land Raider Redeemer.

Ah, the Redeemer is the new LR variant. Gotcha. I had seen the kit, but had no idea what it was called, or that it had an Inferno cannon.

That SoB Immolator has been around since 2E.

The Immolator has twin heavy flamers, not an Inferno cannon.

But this is all getting a little silly. All I've really been saying is that I personally don't see any need for the Hellhound to be anything more than a Chimera with a different turret, just as a Predator and a Razorback are both just rhinos with different turrets. The different turret, different weapon and lack of lasguns sticking out the back are more than sufficient to tell it apart from a regular Chimera. But that's just a personal opinion, not an attack on your own opinion, or your conversion.

It's OK, we pick up different things when we look at different models.

I think the Redeemer has some other super-Heavy Flamer things that aren't exactly the same as Inferno Cannons.

Yes, the Immolator is different from an Inferno Cannon, although it really shouldn't be.

In theory, all being Imperial vehicles with "better than" Heavy Flamers, the Redeemer, Hellhound, and Immolator should *all* use the same rule.

But I have to disagree about this being a little silly. It's *very* silly. We're talking about toy soldiers, after all!

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The Redeemer has a Flamestorm Cannon, not an Inferno Cannon.

I'll stop chanelling DD and his incessant need to be right about everything now.
