Two points:
1) Hard to see why the GOP would be upset about media scrutiny of Palin when they picked her because they thought she was a story that would play well. They wanted a rock star of their own, and they got it and everything that comes with that.
2) The whole thing with Biden and his church starts getting into some really controversial topics. We should probably steer clear of that one.

He's not telling him to go away. Biden still attends church and takes communion there. Saltarelli said they don't allow politicians who support abortion rights to speak at their schools. Wow, what a shock.

JF, if you raise the issue then immediately try to forestall discussion thereof, it comes off as a bit of a hit and run.

Frazzled wrote:I disagree most harshly to that statement Ragnar in your last paragraph. I don't see the fashion police on the NYT investigating The Democrat's taste in clothing or expenses. I don't see Biden having been raked over the coals for running despite being a single parent. As you're afan of hit #'s you'll note the high #'s of negative articles on McCain/Palin. Its almost non-existent against Obama/Biden. Lets get real here, the SNL skit when Clinton was running is highly accurate.
I don't think the amount of money they spent on Palin's clothes should be an issue. We want our politicans to look polished and professional. That costs money. And after the john edwards haircut debacle, it's the pot calling the kettle black. It's a baseless argument. Attack policies, not people.
That being said, I don't like the McCain/Palin policy stances.

It's not the amount; it's where it came from. Public funds come with limitations, and that falls outside them.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

How sad is it that even this thread has become an "anti-Republican" thread...?

No one guy is going to save us.
This recession is spreading to developing nations. It's going to affect the whole world.
We're all going to have to tighten our belts, dig in for the long haul, and rebuild a more stable economy.
Aspiration and better homes etc are absolutely right, but we made the mistake as a society of buying it on tick.

I will say this. My roomate watches CNN all the time, and they always call President Bush Mr. Bush. I have never heard them call him anything other than Mr. Bush, nor have I ever heard them call another President in office at the time "Mr." Maybe I'm just noticing things and ascribing attitudes to them, but it definitely seems like one of those little political subversions that are hard to notice but queitly affect people's attitudes.

Traditionally it is the office of President that deserves respect, not the incumbent.
Don't take this as Republican knocking -- I am sure there must have been a number of Presidents in history that attracted less than rave reviews from the press and people.

I tell you this, last nights SNL opener with Will Ferrell & Tina Fey was really funny:
GWB: "As you know America, the office of Vice President is the most important office in the land. The Vice President decides when we go to war, how we tax the citizens and how we interpret the Constitution. The President can do nothing without checking with the Vice President. That is why Sarah Palin.."
