You know, I would be OK with 5 *great* units if they were the right 5 units:
1. Troops Infantry Platoons built around 40-pt squads with Platoon-level upgrades for Carapace, Camo, etc. along with Mech / Drop / Infiltrate options. Attachable HWS, SWS, and Vets.
2. Dirt-cheap 45-pt AV12/12/10 Chimeras with 5-pt upgrade to twin- HB / Autocannon / ML (also, Valk Skimmer transport)
3. Vehicle Squadrons of cut-price (~120 pts) Russ, AV14/13/12 Demolisher, and Basilisk; also (~100 pts) Hellhounds with 5" Blast. I'd settle for the Demolisher squadrons, myself.
4. Abhuman assault Elites - 6-pt S4 T3 A2 Beastmen and 15-pt S6 T5 A4 Ogryns
5. Penal Legion Human Bomb Conscripts with Explosive Collars
If I get that, I really won't care about the rest.

You will be able to do this, assuming you bring the correct Special Character to the table.
bryantsbears wrote:2 - As few units as possible that are either priced too high to be useful or inspire the nonusage of units, as they don't
Well everyone uses H-Vets already, and no one uses Storm Troopers. Look for a nice big flip in prices/usefulness between the two, especially with a new Storm Trooper plastic kit on the horizon.
bryantsbears wrote:3 - The Leman Russ to be able to shoot its battle cannon and its sponsons if it doesn't move. Enough people crew it.
If you read the (exceptionally lame) fluff explanation as to why they can't, firing the main gun requires the "attention" of all the crew. Why Private. Smith has to look away from his heavy bolter to watch the two people crewing the turret fire I do not know...
bryantsbears wrote:4 - Advisors rules that do not dictate a top heavy HQ - let priests be with the junior officers. Let the commisars go be with a junior officer or a veteran sergeant.
I'm pretty sure advisors will change from "Attack to units starting with HQ" to "Must attach to units, may not attach to the following..." and you just put them where you want except for the restricted units.
bryantsbears wrote:- Elite choices that are neither grossly overpriced glass hammers (Ogryns), five man suicide squads (Veterans) or Mechanicum lackeys and their servitors. I see one of these used; rules should be better designed for all.
Tech-Priests will have the pendulum swung in their favour, as will Ogryn I suspect and probably even Ratlings. Storm Troopers will as well. H-Vets will get the short end of the stick.
bryantsbears wrote:- A priest who inspires people to fight better in more than just HtH.
That would require too much depth. The Chaos Gods are now 1-dimensional emotional archetypes - quite a step away from their detailed origins - so what makes you think they're going to make a Priest any more than that something that says " RAR! MY CHAINSAW IS HUGE! RAR!" before charging in.
bryantsbears wrote:More useful psyker powers (sanctioned doesn't have mean "suck"). The only remotely cool thing it does is the Curse of the Machine God power.
Agree here. The '6' power should not be a Heavy D6 Lasgun. It should be dangerous.
bryantsbears wrote:Oh, and a Chimera/Hellhound combo kit all in plastic. I'll pay a little more for the extra options, and I know how to magnet.

1- Not looking forward to having to buy a special character, giving him a different name and saying that he's not "Colonel Grav MacShutes," he's Colonel Paul Bryant.
2- I can live with the usefulness of the storm troopers at the expense of the hardened vets. Truthfully, I don't see them changing the hardened vets too much.
3- Nothing more to say about the advisors rule that we haven't.
4- Other than the H-vets, I have no problems with elites getting better rules.
5- I suppose on the priest - it's just that the "Charge into Close Combat if you can" rule with the "gotta have one in the Command Squad" makes . Also, a model that's called a priest - they're all "missionaries."
6- Ditto on the psyker. Something mildly dangerous. A few more points wouldn't be the end of days.
7- I have ways of getting extra bits, as well.
Also: something reasonable with the officer and his retinue not being two stinking kill points. That would go a little bit by way of helping the kill point situation.

What you say is true and it does explain why the Inquistorial Chimera suddenly gained camo netting (but not camo netting's stupid points hike). However we don't know what Warrick was copypasting from and as a result I can't say that I know the Chimera's new stats.
Until GW release a codex with the Chimera in it that FAQ entry is useless as we don't know what the Chimera's special rules do. Fortunately my Inquisitorial Stormtroopers are equipped with Rhino's.

I wonder if the point cost in the Inq Chimera faq entry will be the same in the new IG codex.
Also wondering what "Mobile Command Vehicle" special rule is, since I'm assuming it's in the upcoming codex, as it's nowhere to be found in IA2.
For 20 points, I'm wondering if the 'camo netting' rule will provide some kind of cover save to the vehicle.
Edit: The word of the day is... wonder. Sheesh I suck.

Private Smith has to inscribe the Runes of Annihilation on the shell, Private Jenkins has to annoit the breech with sacred oils, and Private Brown has to chant the Dirge of Extreme Death and Destruction, while the others, y'know, load and fire the battlecannon.
I think the actual fluff is that they cannot fire accurately with the whole tank shaking and recoiling from the cannon shot. It's like why bolters only fire 24", the rounds might travel farther but that's the effective range.

I remember when rumors for the Ork codex first came out, everyone was saying "it had better be really good to make up for the lack of updates," and were adamant about how they deserved to be so much better. Now I'm sure some of those same people are complaining about them being overpowered now. I played orks since the beginning of 4th, and I remember them being even worse than guard are now. I've recently started an IG army, and I can see that there's a lot that needs improvement. That doesn't mean that "everyone should be afraid of guard," anymore than they should be afraid of orks, space marines, or eldar. The novelty gets old, and we're left complaints of lootas and biker nobs. On a related note, I really hope most of the doctrines can be used in some ways without some damn special character. It didn't make a whole lot of sense for the SMs, and it makes a lot less for the Guard.
