Thanks! I purposefully tried to steer away from a battlemech, since this is 40K, not mechwarrior. As much as I enjoyed playing mechwarrior, I didn't have an agile robot with jump jets in mind .

If you like those better, Xanthos on this forum made a nice one; found it while doing research for mine.

Thanks, the shading effect on the blue is definitely something I'll be aiming for, albeit in a diferent colour. I prefer this one over the original red version that guy did.

Right now, for colouring I'm thinking a deep green for the hull and armour plates, white cockpit, and black and yellow heraldry on the shoulders. Lots of metallics as well, considering the amount of pistons and gears. If someone has information on the old noble houses and their colours, it would be much appreciated!

Hey, nice bit of work here CommisarKhaine. I´m liking the design more and more, the legs are great, and the blocky-ness is less of an issue with the CoD bits on, great modeling dude!
By the way, the upper torso being blocky, was also the main issue when I was building mine.

Agree on the "can´t wait for paint" comment.

Thanks! Your knight was actually an inspiration, I used the leg-widening trick, though only for the upper leg. The whole blockiness was a bit of a problem, but that's always the problem with a WIP; not to mention it was my first serious attempt at using plasticard.

Did you ever finish yours? I saw pics on this forum, but they didn't go beyond a grey and bronze basecoat.

As for painting, I'm still adding the boring stuff: rivets, small things, filling gaps...I hope to have some basecoats on by the end of the year, and then we'll see from there.

I´ve gotten it to basecoat + first layers of shading. It has sadly been shelved for some time, awaiting the muse.

Hopefully my next semester will allow for more time in the schedule for painting.

So, the construction of the knight is finished.. Pics up for comments!

I learned quite alot form buildign this one, and my next two knights will certainly benefit fom it;
learning points:
- sub assemblies rock
- make sure you have all the bits you need when you start off; that way you can put on all the right bits straight away
- good tools are pretty much essential
- measure, measure, measure. then measure some more
- neatness rocks

So, some pics:

front with tech priest and IG officer for scale; note that torso and legs are still posable, so it will look less static when it's been finished.

sides:

rear:

I've been considering adding rivets to the rear panelling, but I don't think it'll add much.

two top views; I may have gone a bit overboard here .

So, let me know what you guys think. Unless I spot any glaring mistakes, he'll be getting his undercoat as soon as temperature rises above freezing point - I wouldn't want to mess this up with a spray can accident... Any suggestions when it comes down to painint would be welcome, both on technique and on colours.

You might want to do something about the sentinel head-piece. It looks really out of place on an otherwise amazing piece.

You made some real improvements over the original model! Good job on that!

I do agree with markoseugene that you need to do something about the headpiece.

What do you guys feel is wrong about it? Size, shape?

The problem I'm having with is that it doesn't look very knightly - or humanoid. But, to change that would imply some extensive rebuilding... Also, I really disliked the original knights' heads, so I want something different. I also want to keep the heavy bolter there on this one, which rather limits my options. Some heads I liked were made by a dude on warseer called Mato Noupa:

Maybe I should add some "knightly" helmet details? Wings or a visor or something? A plume or feathers are over the top IMO .

Blocky is ok, nothing to worry about there. Just look at the original Titans, like the Knights they were very round shaped but the more current models (exception of the FW Reaver) tend to be very blocky, so its all cool!

If you are looking for ways to improve the head, make it look less like a sentinal cockpit by working on the "cheek" area a bit. having the right and left sides match more would be good, and bulking up that area a bit should be useful. I would add a bit more to the "neck" connection as well, possibly a bundle of hoses, hanging from the rest of the neck.

Otherwise, this guy looks great. the hips look slightly under protected though, so a bit of armor plate there might be useful, something the size of a razorback gun's armor.

The whole WIP he comments on the blockiness, and now this.... On a more serious note, I figure I got most of the "blockiness" comments because of the WIP-ness and naked plasticard; detailing solved both those problems. The COD kits are very nice btw, lots of very detailed stuff.

I've been looking for some ways to do it, but haven't found anything I liked yet. I've been considering adding a second heavy bolter somewhere though... maybe that would help. The main thing is, I don't see huge problems with the head. The way it's attached makes it pretty different from a standard sentinel cockpit, and i intend to do something paint-wise with the vision slits, though i'm not sure what exactly. I've considered adding tubing, but there's no logical place for them to go; so that's out I guess.

Also, I'm a bit afraid to mess things up with major reconstruction (which changing the head is - it's atached pretty colidly to the neck); the only thing I've added since the last pics are some riverts on the back.

Otherwise, this guy looks great. the hips look slightly under protected though, so a bit of armor plate there might be useful, something the size of a razorback gun's armor.

If it didn't block the rotation of the torso (which is still fully mobile, I might add), I would add some . My next knight will adress this problem. This one'll have to do with slightly less protected hips. And: glad you like him .

I'm confusing you, sorry for that. I mean you have "blockiness" and "blockiness". Right now the model is still blocky (most Imperial designs are) but it's better than the 'blockiness" the model had when you just started it. I mean you can see the difference in blockiness you made from your model right?

By one blockiness you meant big, simple shapes, little detail; basically a bunch of rectangles stuck together. By the other one a big hulking war machine. I got it, I was just kidding you .

A bong? Do I even want to know what that is?

Then do so! They're cool, and it was my first serious attempt at scratchbuilding, so it can't be all that hard. Besides, I'm getting bored with all the warhound titans; I've always felt the knights were underrepresented, so let's fix it!

I was just reading this and thought I might make one, I had a stab at a warhound titan basing it on an old robot in my attic but I was going to base the legs on a defiler like you did. Although it would be for a Chaos army. I haven't read Mechanicum but I was wondering if chaos could have nicked one just as they did with the other titans. This would also fit into the Red Corsair army theme better as they are a bit more piratey and more mobile. Also can they fit into the small games workshop cases easily?
Btw great model, all I have to say is that the legs do look a bit skinny compared to the large torso but it is a great model and I especially like the giant chainsaw ^_^

Thanks! I haven't found any templates for these guys (probably because there's no existing model to base them off), but the basic concept is pretty easy to achieve. If I can, most people probably can . I did kitbash a lot though; if you want a similar model, better save up for the right bits.

Put up some pics of the warhound then! Chaos have their own knights, all Slaaneshi variants in the old epic background, there's some rules for them on the GW website. Still, they're piloted by humans, so they could always be swayed towards the ruinous powers...

Also can they fit into the small games workshop cases easily?

Luckily, mine comes apart . The torso, arms and legs are all seperate, making it easily transportable. I only have a big case, but I'm pretty sure I could fit it in a small one if necessary.

Thanks! The chainsaw has been painted with the nice black and yellow danger stripes (a tribute to the epic models), and is looking suitably menacing. As for the legs: it's a typical imperial design, and they look quite OK to me. Besides, you intended to use the same legs for a warhound, which stand a good 4" (10cm) taller then the knight.

I've found some templates on the Megabattles group on Yahoo. Its kinda simple, but still it's something to work up from.

And one could allways copy you or Mato Naupa over on Warseer, you've use the same legs. And those legs may be my solution regardless of how I choose to make the body...

Nice! A Knight! This is a cool mini that you've made, but I always thought they should be only like 5" high instead of 8-9"... (As it says in Mechanicum that they're five times the height of the feral servitors that they're beating up...) Either way, massively cool. Two thumbs up!

Thanks! As for the height issue: I did a comparison between an old epic warhound and a (very old) epic knight; the knight was 2/3 the height of the warhound. Warhound = 30 cm (12") , so knight = 20 cm (8"). Besides, if you want to fit someone in the head, you can't go much smaller then this .

And just to show you guys I've been doing some work on him, here are some WIP pics. Still pretty rough, but they should give you an idea of how he'll look.
