women in the army? Just look at their shoes!
For them uniform is secondary... they just made them fashion acessories

Glad the ukranian army is focusing on things that matter.. Wow if russia ever decides to annex them atleast they got a well trained brigade of women who can wear high heels and march in a single direction

I just meant that men have an easier time freehand sculpting/painting/drawing/etc. male figures most of the time. Strange? Yes. Homoerotic? Maybe. I'd hazard a guess that it works the same way with women.

Though I have no idea why. Perhaps it's ultimately what we're more familiar with? Maybe we just get distracted whenever we get close to an honestly accurate portrayal of a woman? Again, I don't know.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

I would hate to have to fight these Ukrainian Ladies. Just please let them take me prisoner.

Yeah, I somehow doubt the Ukrainian 12 inch skirt high heel blonde brigade is an impressive fighting force. The simple fact that they let them keep their pretty little pony tails means that they probably aren't in any sort of combat oriented part of that military.

I'm betting they are not military but are flight attendants-seriously.

Come off your high horse. Women don't read this board for the most part so you really don't need to act like a valiant fellow questioning the definition of beauty. You know what I mean.

War also doesn't come to everyone, if people decided to invade another nation there are many who don't fight them. They just go about their lives in some capacity. You can lead an army to a nation but you can't make the people fight them.

Interesting.....to be honest, I wasn't trying to champion any female cause, or be "valiant". The question of "what is beauty" is most relevant in this discussion. Some men like women who are hairy, others like body builder types, some men like their women with...how should I say it?...a well rounded figure...and the list goes on. For a company to produce a "pretty" female figure they would either need to run with a social stereotype (Bay-watch babe) or speculate on more specific features that may capture a more, specialist, audience.

Perhaps, if we didn't view our miniatures as objects of sexual desire the whole "ewww what an ugly female figure" would be simply irrelevant, and we see only a miniature representation of a soldier.

I also disagree with your last statement. In a situation of an invading force, you will definately find a group of people who "keep their heads down" and hope to simply survive, you will also find cowards, but at the same time people will also become "Freedom fighters"....men, women and children....take a look at recent history to prove that point.

It may be that a woman you find attractive, regardless of her looks will take up arms to fight, in as much as a woman who you find unattractive will abstain from fighting....theres simply no connection between a persons genetic disposition and their willingness or ability to kill another human being.

Lack of realistically proportioned female models have always bugged me.
Since I'm primarily a 40k player, these are my two grips:

No female imperial guard models.
Their armor wouldn't be shaped any different (NO flak vests with boob shaped plates)
They would have slighter shoulders and slightly wider hides
which would come out to be an H-frame when in gear

also in regards to Sisters of Battle
they should be a bit frump-faced
Nuns where generally the unmarryables back in the convent days
but then again lingerie wearing bondage-nuns always bothered me

with elves. . . yeah, they need to work on them
(including the males)
they all just need to be more elegant, I'm hoping to see an improvement (and proportion) as new plastics come out
like with the Daemoettes (who are a bit too feminine, and need to be more androgen)

and the side note: 'Flesh' colored paints
this irks me, but the again I'm just one of those olive-skinned mother-ers

Pipe-Dream:
Male and female guard in long coats with varying frame sizes but uniform equipment in plastic
(not more Dominatrix Commissars)

@ Stonefox

Well, if someone wants to spend their time getting "jiggy" with a lump of 32mm metal or resin, then go hog wild.

What you call internet "white knighting"...is actually a mature male who knows the eifference between a toy and a woman......trust me, touch the real thing and you'll never look back

The issue with that is universal compatibility within the same model line. When you have small but noticeable differences in figure and proportion across a line, it can become harder to convert and model appropriately (as someone tried to do with elves earlier). Especially when you're trying to find something in a gender that doesn't exist (such as a shoulder slung heavy weapon for a female frame). Games like warmachine can get away with being good to both genders since you can't convert their models and there is no in game incentive to model variety.

Not that I don't like variety and accuracy, thats just one of the probable reasons things are the way they are.

They create miniatures for their primary audience, that being teen to late thirties white males. There is some historical precedent for a lack of women in war, but thats not really why they do it, it's just easier to sculpt and release models of all the same gender and build preventing issues of oddly sized limbs and heads due to gender specific differences in size and shape. There are quite a few problems that can result in having gender equality in a line of customizable miniatures.

my salamanders disagree with your assessment, they are all done with dark skin.. What are you saying here?

If you look in the new space marine codex your salamanders are now officially jet black skinned with red eyes. They are super space drow.

to ShumaGorath:
I'm sure the lack of convertibility would be the primary issue.

But you could do it with reduced difficulty by have one male and one female template
and say have 6 f-template models in with 14 m-template models on a plastic sprue

like I said, pipe dream...
