i am sorry i was not clear.

the 'ard boyz events are not part of the "gw community events". Many people used the community events development website to ask questions about 'ard boyz, however, it was direct sales that sponsored the 'ard boyz events.

GW community events are programs like the grand tournaments, Lucky 13 campaign and such. the 'ard boyz may look like a community events program but it is not.

unless, of course, the 'ard boyz were given to Dave's team this year. than disregard anything I said and call me a grot

the past two Baltimore GTs were excellent, I hope the trend continues. thank you Dave for bringing them back and better than ever.

Dave, I wish you the best. Everything I've ever seen you do has represented the hobby in the best possible way- you do the hobby the way it was intended, and that should be the model for all of us enthusiasts.

Unbelievable...

Ah, I just assumed they were run by the same team because the 'Ard Boyz finals were held at the Baltimore GT. Thanks for the information.

i cant believe this gak!! Dave, you rock, all of your armies are simply amazing and you added so much to the hobby. This would be like if LT was let go from the Chargers!!

I know we dont know, nor do we need to know, the details, but if GW let you go then they are complete f-ing morons.

Well, best of luck to you Dave, I hope we see you continue to post here and that you continue to put out the great armies that you are known and appreciated for.

The 300 issue of WD is still my favorite and in many ways the last great issue in my opinion. That issue was so awesome because it practically was Dave Taylor's magazine...

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Aw man... he was always that little bit of Australia, kicking Proper British Wargaming into communities the world over... I used to love his articles back in his red/blackshirt days, and a couple years ago I discovered all the neat articles he had up on the GW website. Conversion master, fiction-fan and all-round-dude who played with PAINTED armies.

I hope it wasn't due to personal issues, trouble with the family or anything that made him unable to fulfill his commitments to the company.. he had a good run either way.

Yet another GW celebrity goes down. Is there anyone worth mentioning left? Kelly?
This also just reminds me of how WD doesn't care about the gaming community any more, even on the modelling side of things. Dave was just one example of the people who would write articles worth looking at. Now the torch has been passed to the internet communities, I guess.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

If GW paid any attention to internet communities, they'd have picked up that no one cared when Gav left, but everyone cares about Dave (and that Jervis was and always will be Andy's bitch).

I know he has already posted, but here's his post from Warseer for anyone who cares to read it;
Hi guys

Unfortunately I am no longer under the employ of Games Workshop. I've had many memorable years talking about awesome toy soldiers in at least four different continents.

I'll continue to keep modeling/converting/painting GW minis until they aren't cool anymore, something I can't see happening anytime anywhere near soon. And hopefully I'll catch up with some Warseer folks at future GW events.

Thank you all to those who recognized my efforts over the years, for those who have never heard of me or seen my stuff, that's just fine too. Please remember to all, have fun in the Games Workshop worlds and universes. It's such a wonderful escape from the craziness of the world we "really" live in.

Cheers
Dave

Good luck on whatever you are doing Dave.

I remeber back it the day when you would come up to run the Brisbane GTs, which at the time were the best tourneys in Queensland.

And the armies and models you have been posting online over the last few years have triggered more coversion and painting work than any other single hobbyist.

I don't know much about you, since I don't know the GW staff that well and don't get White Dwarf, but I know from an Eye of Terror-era WD a friend gave me that you paint a sweet Chimera. That alone makes me regret your departure from GW.

What terrible, sad news, especially for tournament players here in the US.

Dave, in a company that has become increasingly tight-lipped over the years, you in particular did a great job of listening and communicating with the players. I know that was your job, but still, I do think you always went above and beyond to listen and make things better, so if nothing else I will miss your candor.

I know Go-Go is a capable fellow, but I desperately hope they aren't reducing the department down to just two people. . .three seemed pretty ludicrous for the amount of work you guys had to tackle.

But I digress. I'm very sad to see you go and I wish you all the best in your next endeavor. Hopefully I'll see you around some time.

*Sighs* Well, Dave, everyone will miss your inspirign presence in the GW Community deeply. I remember you coming down during the GW Birthday in Alamo just a short while back. Hopefully you remember me, the tall guy with the glasses nearly drooling all over your models(Oh Dear God that was pathetic of me) during your 500 point game with that Eldar kid. But anyways, the hobby aspect of the community will mourn your passing of the Games Workshop network and I really hope to see you around sometime. have a game or two, and hell, maybe even a drink. I hope whatever you do in life goes well for you my friend, as you deserve nothing but the best for all the great things you did for us, the hobbyists. Thanks again Dave, you were a great inspiration.

Sorry I am late to the game but what 'Ard boyz debacle are we talking about here? I seem to have missed out on some info.

Dave, I'll miss you buddy.

About two years ago you and I had a conversation at which time you gave me some information and swore me to secrecy. I have kept the secret for two years now...can I let it out of the bag now that you don't work for GW?

Well this has to be the winner of the best example of hyperbole in a post for 2008.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Fair point.

If Dave Taylor returns to work at GW I am putting dibs on "ZOMG, it is like the time Jesus came out the cave, you know, like when he was dead".

I want to echo the positive sentiments and contributions that Mr. Taylor has made to gaming and the GT circuit. I would like to relate a personal story of my limited experience with Mr. Taylor.

Two years ago I made reservations in advance to fly to Chicago for the GT. My goal was to play in the three major GT's that year @ Baltimore, Chicago and Vegas. I made the reservations far in advance to take advantage of Southwest's $60 flight from Long Island to an airport about 30 minutes away from the convention site. I tried to ascertain the start time of the event prior to the event through phone calls, e-mails and so forth (to no avail) so I could book the appropriate flight to arrive on-time the day of the event. I had to make the reservation with a GW employees best guess as to the start time based upon the other events, so I made it the first flight out, leaving me enough time to get there. When the actual time came out on the website, it was earlier than I was told and it looked like I would be late. I was going to Chicago regardless because after the event, the rest of my family was flying up to meet me, and we were going to rent a van to take a family vacation to Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. I wrote an e-mail to a guy that the GW employee told me was in charge of the event called Dave Taylor. I didn't want to commit to the event as the probability of me arriving on-time required everything to go smoothly with the flight, my arrival, the search of my person at the airport, the cab ride to the event, etc, etc., and I was going to cancel my GT ticket, anticipating losing the fee to play and just attend the Games-Day event.

Dave Taylor e-mailed me and assured me that I would be able to play, even if I was late, and it would not interfere with the event. I told the cabbie I would match the fare with the tip if he could get me to the event on-time. After the Speed Freak Ork trukk came to a stop, I paid the driver and ran to the doors with 10 minutes before start time. Dave Taylor meets me at the doors, greets me by name, and gets me to a table to play with my opponent waiting for me in good spirits. I only knew him from reading White Dwarf, and that meant that all I knew was that he was some big-wig with the company and I admired his skills at converting and painting.

After the games, I went to look for Mr. Taylor to thank him. By the time I found him, the Forge World guys were closed. The fact that I wanted to buy a Thunderbolt came up in the conversation I was having with Mr. Taylor, who was talking to me like we were old buddies that played together for years (this was the first time I met the guy), who in my mind was like meeting the equivalent of a professional football player at the Super Bowl. He took me over to the FW table, asked for somebody he knew, and allowed me to make my order despite them being closed.

I have seen him at two events since then, and he remembered my name when I greeted him at both.

Mr. Taylor, if you read this, I want to thank you again for your time and consideration and I wish you health and happiness. Thanks for taking the time to make my experience gaming more enjoyable. I didn't get to see your Land Raider with the Carnifex carcass at Baltimore this year. Hopefully, I can have the pleasure of meeting you again in the near future. Happy Holiday's and Happy New Year!
