Given the current strength of the Ork codex, and the fact that they have very little to do with zombies, it's hard to believe that you're using it because it's the best match fluff-wise....:/

Yeah, I agree. The only reason I posted text is because I order my armies en mass from bitkingdom. Yes, orks are a strong army, and yes, it was part of the reason why I chose them, but I want something that is playable as well as off the walls. I was inspired partially by I Am Legend, the 28 Days Later series, and Proiteus' Undead Ultramarines and I feel that a jibbering horde of zombies wanting to tear the enemy apart is best represented by Orks. Orks are the only CC oriented horde besides Nidz. So if I'm supposed to choose between Nidz and Orks, I would pick Orks because a) Nobs easily represent my "deathmakers"/necromancers [stolen term from Proiteus' army], which in my mind is the coolest part of the army b) the over 10 models = fearless rule makes much more sense than the synapse rule.

As for test models, this is a relatively old model I converted for the BOLS Badab War. He is a heretic preacher, but since it's my favorite model/conversion ever I'm going to convert him into something important for this army (so probably just swapping the chainsword with a PF). Here he is:

Great model, nicely painted! I love the staring eyes.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

The new ghouls would make nice counts-as Daemonettes... Fleety, rendy, no guns.

1) Space Marines are not twice the size of Guardsman. Guardsman's height would be around 5'10" to 6 feet tall. A space Marine is, as I recall, 7 or 9 feet tall depending on where you look. Unless your math teacher was the same as your english teacher, I don't see twice the height that you claim.

Size does not equal height. If a Marine is some 30-50% taller than ordinary humans, as you yourself state, this would lead to an approximate doubling in volume, depending on exactly how precise you are with your calculations and the methods you use for approximating shape. Close enough, in the context here, to talk about a doubling of size anyway. Also, the marine models are not half as tall again as Imperial Guard models, not even a third again as tall. Now, remember marines are quoted as 7-9 ft tall, the variety will come from differences between chapter and whether you are talking about in or out of armour. Humans, living under difficult circumstances and recruited from either harsh hive worlds or harsh semi-feral worlds are probably not going to have the best diet, so 5'10" to 6' is probably an overestimate anyway. This makes you further wonder about the discrepancy.

And that comes from a science teacher who also teaches maths and used to teach English as a foreign language.

All any of this proves is that we are playing a game with plastic and metal soldiers and it is not worth getting worked up about.

2) A Space Marine's ammo isn't a bullet. It is a rocket-propelled miniature nuclear warhead... Hmmm... Hot light or nuclear explosion? You do the math. Oh wait... scratch that.

He said "rocket", not nuclear bomb, to be fair. I am pretty certain that the original Rogue Trader described bolter rounds in such a way. It definitely says it here: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Bolter

In some ways, I completely agree with you though. This is a very ambitious project. If he is going to put enough effort in to do a worthwhile job on the conversions (and it will have to be a LOT of work), then a custom codex would be small cheddar by comparison. The look of the army will either be awesome or crap though, with not much chance of a middle ground).

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Why is it a problem to recycle models? I've never been so disappointed in dakka members. I'm being flamed for recycling a model? That model I want to use as a nob is converted from an OOP chaos sorcerer. The IG army I was going to use it for never even got started. Not everyone has money to throw at an expensive hobby. You have never stripped a model to be repainted? You have never bought off of ebay? Why should I be made to feel bad for using an old model that I love in my new army? The comments about me recycling models because I'm cheap are so unfounded. Some of the comments in this thread are just awful. This doesn't even have to do with money. It's just the principle of it.

I'm pretty shocked at the level of derision and hostility in this thread too- the OP did nothing to warrant it. Constructive critisism is great, pointless flames are not.

Brado: For undead gunwielders, I think your best bet is to try and build the gun into the zombies, a la the Cyberdemon from Doom, or the Soul Grinder. Shoota boyz = Zombies with basic machinegun arms, Lootas = Zombies with big massive cannons, or zombies that are basically walking gun platforms. Check out Privateer Presses Cryx range for ideas, here's a few that jumped to my mind that could be good for inspiration:

(Dems some powerfists!)

http://www.privateerpress.com/WARMACHINE/gallery/default.php?level=picture&id=32

(Big f'in' gun platform lootaesque thingy. I can think of loads of ideas for converting lootazombies with rocket launchers embedded in their chests, chainguns on 4 legs etc.The conversions could be very difficult but it would be well worth it)

As a concept (big futuristic/gothic undead horde with summoners) it's amazing, and I'd like to second other people who have pointed you toward the Daemon codex as a possible other concept. Instead of the daemons teleporting in, zombies claw out of the ground. Bloodletters = 28 Days Later style Rage Zombies (nice reddish paintscheme would be great)
Plaguebearers: SAP+Really Tough+Crap in Melee+Poison ed attacks = Classic Zombie City.
Horrors: Could be some sort of Necromancers familiar idea, wraiths that fire bolts of necromantic energy, or the like.
Soul Grinder has possibilities as a sort of horrific composite Technoundead, and heralds with Icons make fantastic Necromancers. Have a think on it.
The best thing about this is that you wouldn't have to do as much converting. Ghouls could be your "bloodletters", normal WFB zombies your "Plaguebearers" and so on.
