Moon on a stick! lol, I miss that phrase. No one here knows what I means. And now back to your regularly scheduled topic.

Unfortunately iPhone applications are not cross-platform compatible. I am not entirely averse to the idea of porting i40k to other platforms like Blackberry OS, Windows Mobile, Palm OS, etc, but they don't have the distribution set-up that Apple do, or a well-documented SDK, plus they don't all have touchscreens or consistent screensizes, which is a bit of a nightmare to code for.

All iPhone applications, like applications for Mac OS X, are written in Objective-C, a variant of C++.

Just Windows Mobile for touch screen would be fine

What sort of iPhone do you have? Is it associated with your iTunes account, you don't have a nano connected as well or something? Are you updated to the latest firmware?

Not completely true:

Here are some extremely well documented API:s you can use if your device supports Java. Almost all Nokia and Sony Ericsson devices support Java for instance.

http://java.sun.com/javame/reference/apis.jsp

Regarding screen sizes: This is not really a problem as long as you use the built in graphical objects of JavaME (list, form, alert etc) but it will be if you use a canvas to draw some custom stuff. This can, however, easily be overcome by writing some dynamic drawing functions since there are not that many different screen sizes for phones (off the top of my head I count to 4 different screensizes to handle).

Since you have all the algorithms already written you could probably port your app to JavaME in less then one day with test.

I'd love to get this for my iphone, but that price tag is just completely unreasonable for what it is. '40k players with iphones' may be a niche market, but that just means there are less people available to purchase your product, not that there's necessarily a higher demand to compensate for that price. May as well just pull up a dice roller on a web site with my phone.

Oh do stop whining. It may be to expensive for you but not for others - it doesn't make it unreasonable. You have no idea how many units he needs to sell to make it worth his while to write it. It is being sold to make money not as a community tool - to make money you need to earn more than your time value of money costs. The smaller units sold the more the unit cost needs to be but on the flip side high cost means less units. If you can't afford or don't want to pay then don't.

Anyway, if you actually read his post, it isn't just a dice roller. It is a probability calculator with several unique 40k characteristics built in. But hey, if you don't want to pay for it you are welcome to calc the math behind how many models you can kill in a round of shooting yourself. Some may prefer to pay - I can actually see this type of program being used by tournie players for quick calcs.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

This is the first app I ever bought for my iPhone, and I have had the phone since the 3G was released. I am quite pleased with this application so far and I hope my Review on iTunes assists the creator. Just to reiterate, I would like to see AP values of the guns used in conjunction with Armor Value so there can be a more accurate representation of possible casualties. Everything else is covered quite well in the Shooting section.

Just like others have said, adding in Close Combat and Vehicle damages would also be useful. I always wondered what would happen to a Land Raider (theorhetically), if 5 Necron Destroyers shot at it, and what would the resulting outcome of Glancing Hits be like (along with possibilities on the Damage Chart).

This application has many paths still open to it and I do hope the creator will flood us all with his creativity

PS. 6$ is nothing when one pays $XXX just for the phone.

Close Combat is already built in to the development version - expect to see it on the app store soon. Vehicle damage will certainly go in in future - probably displaying Glances, Pens and 'Probability of destroying vehicle'. Cheers for the review!

Did you recently make this? A friend in my gaming group has a program just like this, but I guess it could have been made by someone else. Small world if not

Just a quick heads up, but is there a way, in future updates to make the slide bars a bit more sensitive? I am having to forcefully push on the screen to slide them back and forth and it is becomnig a nuisance.

Also, please really consider adding in the AP value of the shots to the calculations. This would be most beneficial.

PS. After seeing the odds of 10 Marines w/Boltguns wounding Terminators, I have horrible luck with my dice I keep losing my lovely Terminators.

I find it funny how people will pay 40$ for AB that dos nothing but they wont pay 6$ to get an App that dos all the calcing for them.

The issue with the sliders is, the hit area that you can touch to activate them is very small - you have to touch the little ball itself and nothing else. I'll build something into the next version to sort that out.

You think some nice sized, numbered buttons across the screen would be a better replacements for the sliders? This would allow you to just "click" the attributes instead. Just a thought. I am very good at brain storming things. Still love that someone is putting in time and effort on an application for a very small niche of customers

Not to give nick any trouble here, but as someone with an iPhone who wanted an easy dice roller after seeing nick's initial program, I went ahead and banged together my own little tool.

http://www.fusedcreations.com/adam/dicehammer/generaldice.html

As I don't have a mac to program for this thing on, and don't really feel like learning the iPhone's programming language, it's all done in javascript. All you have to do it pull up the page when you want to use it. I'll probably work on expanding it further (see: return to menu button up at the top).

No clue why you brought up AB in this conversation, but AB does a lot, far more than one would expect for $40. Army Builder is, and always has been my best gamign related purchase while in this hobby.

This Iphone app is very neat too, I referred a friend to it and he bought it for his ipod touch, too bad I still can't download it...
