Well, well. Someone finally reached a max rank.

Shoot, now I'll have to go ahead and add the 'Sanguinius' rank at the 30,000 mark just to give you something to shoot for!

I was going to ask on the mod forum when the top rank was hit, I guess now we know.

If 20,000 is top rank why is Nicole Wakelin the listing for Classic Dakkaites?

Wait, just remembered some ranks have more than others....

Nah that's the max rank on that track too.

The thing is, the max rank on a track is never just the highest possible rank but rather something a little clever or insightful (hopefully). For example, I'm sure if you think about it for a second you can figure out why Nicole is the max rank on the classic Dakkaite track instead of Russ.

When Nicole found us scavengers molesting the 40K CCG forum, we were so scared we fled into the night and holed up in the most desolate part of the Internetz.

I still shiver thinking about that very first cold night. All of us huddled together to try to stay warm while running from the rage that was Mistress Wakelin. Everyone smacking Malfred's hand away from their butts...

We should have impaled Malfred on a pike that dark eve long ago to assuage Nicole's hunger so we could flee freely. It was, of course, Malfred's fault afterall...

I used to love the old style of the forums where everything was pegged out under each thread heading, but traffic was much smaller then and it would be a nightmare to follow now.

The best continuity aspect is the 'dakka scheme' with the yellow and grey and black. Very easy on the eyes.
And the option to change it to white so it looks like I'm doing work related stuff, at work is great too.

Back in early 2004 I was into 40k CGG as were a few other dakkaites.

Myself (pre moderator) and Malfred and IIRC Penguidude started talking about off topic stuff one day in the forum and it just kept going.

Threads between 4 or 5 people were up to 4 or 500 posts long at one stage.
The only rules was you had to be polite as per the dakka rules and that the title of each thread had to relate to 40K CCG (and usually the majority of the first post).

When we started there were probably 40-50 threads and a couple hundred posts. By the time we were detected only YMDC had a higher posting rate.

We were up around 20 regulars, all of whom seemed to stumble in upon us because they were posting late at night and bored and trawling the forums to find something to do and then joined in.

Nicole was remarkably tolerant of it (I assume because it was essentially a dead forum) and the Wasteland was established at about the same time so we shifted there....

As it got up over 6 months were became more and more paranoid about being discovered and would throw in elaborate posting techniques, like the first 10 posts were 40K CCG related at first glance to throw any mods off the trail.

But it was all Malfreds fault... as per the agreement of all members if we were ever discovered.

Happy times.

That we now have an of topic forum came thanks to the 40k CCG, the OT brigade (via the wasteland, where quite a few moderators post, or posted) and the need to stop OT clogging up other forums.

I'd already read the History of Dakka article so you don't get any thanks Hellfury. Would Stelek count as a "Classic Dakka Poster"? He certainly, umm... drew attention to Dakka.

The OTZone wasteland was established because of being ousted. Though we all knew that the OT going on in the CCG forum couldn't last too much longer. The high post rate was too much of a dead give away.

But otherwise I completely agree.

IMHO no.

Despite people on his blog (not Stelek FWIW) fortelling the fall of dakka and the mass exodus of posters, since Stelek has left posting has gone from less than 1000 posts per day to about 1450 posts per day, and we are getting more new members than ever before.

Sure he posted alot, and generated alot of heated debate but in a couple of years he'll just be another name that you wonder occasionally what he is doing (and I do enjoy reading his blog from time to time).

Some of the Classic dakka posters I'd list would be:
Malfred
Hellfury
Clouseau
Barphranges
Snord
Bugswarm
The Phantom lord

Some still posting, some long gone.

Drew is already listed on the History of Dakka article (indeed the only one) as a classic dakkaite so I left him off.

If I could work out how to use the wiki software I'd edit the article...

It's pretty simple to edit. Just click 'EDIT' at the top of the section you want to edit and you'll get a box almost identical to the one you use to post on the forums. If you need more help, then try this TUTORIAL on Wikipedia.

I would really love others to add some of the classic stories into that article. There's so many that could be codified. PeguinDude chasing Paul Sawyer off the site, JT & Mauleed's epic battle, tall tales of Barphranges and Clouseau's modelling exploits, etc, etc, etc.

It really is simple to do the basic editing in the article, you just click on the 'edit' button for that section and type away. If you want to add a new section you just surround the title of that section with 'equals' signs, like: ==Main Heading==. The more equals signs the more of a sub-heading it is, so: ===sub-heading=== or: ====sub-sub heading====, etc, etc, etc.

Paul Sawyer visited this place as well and was chased off? Oh man! I remember him joining the Imperial Guard Debriefing Room for a bit but the sudden elevation to god-like status by some of the members shooed him off really fast.
